Michigan Parks Visitor Reviews
2/24/2012 Bay City State Park by Jerry
Very close to home... - Camped there last year. Park is nice. Very nice sprinkler park for the kids. My wife and I will be back this year...
2/13/2012 Tawas Point State Park by Todd
Favorite vacation spot - I am originaly from Northeast Michigan but no live in Texas. My family and I return to Michigan every year and our favorite place is Tawas Point State Park. My wife says it is her favorite spot peroid.
A family vacation - My parents started taking their children there before I was born. It turned into an every year event for two weeks at a time. Me and my husband continued the tradition and have never missed a year. My three children enjoy going and my siblings have rejoined over the years. A very nice way to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy the little things.
1/7/2012 Traverse City State Park by JD & Jan, Howell, Mi
Beautiful Rustic Style Campground - We have been coming to and staying in our motorhome at the Traverse City State Park for several years. Love it up there. People are friendly and the beach and swimming area is A-1. East Bay has a wonderful sandy bottom, no weeds growing, and has a long, very gradual depth increase. Will be on the computer in 12 hours making our reservation for 2011 and hope to get our regular spot. Happy camping to everyone.
12/26/2011 William Mitchell State Park by Margie
- We decided to camp for the first time here last year and had so much fun. There are so many great activities for the kids and they love to be able to fish all day on the channel. We are excited and looking forward to going even longer this year! :)

Great Swimming - We love camping here with the kids. The lake is great for swimming!
9/26/2011 Hartwick Pines State Park by Loraxx
One of my favorite places in the world. - I would also like to hear some tips for a very simple weddings in the chapel.
Beautiful!! Clean!! Big sites!! -
- Very clean and nice campgroung. Not a whole lot for the kids to do at the campground. My only complaint is there is LOTS and LOTS of visable posion ivy on many of the campsites and edge of paved walkways.
9/5/2011 Sleeper State Park by Kelly K
Halloween Weekends - Sleeper State Park is awesome for their Halloween weekends. The fall time is so pretty there, and the kids love the parade/trick or treating. We have been going every year for it for the past 6 years.
awesome place - Wonderful place to camp if you are seeking quiet and tranquility. The campsites were large and not crammed together like so many DNR properties. There is plenty of wildlife to see. The best thing was the unspoiled beauty of Lake Michigan. I recommend this to anybody wanting to get away from the rat-race.
Hidden gem - This is a really nice park that is a day trip from many of the popular UP tourist areas. The beach is beautiful and the facilities are excellent. Definitely recommend giving it a look.
8/15/2011 Fort Custer State Park by Eric Anderson
A nice place to be - This is the place I take my kids,we go swimming at the beach, take long walks on the hiking trails and fish all the lakes. There are nice pavilions for picnicking with grills. and a wonderful camp ground. When I ask the kids where they want to go, this is it
8/1/2011 Bay City State Park by Joanie
A great place to show your love!! - My husband and I renewed our 10 wedding vows at the park on Aug 14th 2010. Best day ever!!! all the workers were great and really helpful. We camped at the park that weekend and then had the renewal on a saturday, everything went great. would tell anyone that was thinking about doing something like this to do it.
7/29/2011 Traverse City State Park by Ralph
mosquitos...and lots of them - We camped there in July of 2010 and the bugs were so bad you could not sit outside. Will not be going back.
7/29/2011 Harrisville State Park by Dave
Outstanding - Beautiful park. Paved bike and walking trails, clean sites, restrooms and showers, beautiful beach, crystal clear water in Lake Huron, doggie beach. Magnificent.
7/24/2011 North Higgins Lake State Park by kevin plamondon
its a fountain of youth perfect - perfect paradise for all to enjoy
Excellent Place, close to home! - We have been camping at Wells every summer for the past 4 years. We love it here!! The staff is so friendly. The camp hosts do a lot of activities with the kids. The bathrooms/showers are very clean!! Great place to relax and have fun with the family!!
7/23/2011 Sterling State Park by linda ,,,brown eyes

7/21/2011 Hayes State Park by looghe
Beautiful Park, our favorite. - The few days we were there, primarily at the beach, were great. Exceptionally clean, not just the water, the entire park !! Plan on going back real soon.
7/21/2011 Rifle River Recreation Area by mike & sue
it is a great park - we have been going now for about 5 years and everytime we go we like it its not far from were we live its very clean they have alot of things for adults and kids to do it is a very nice place to go camping i would recommend this park if you want a nice cheap place to go for a weekend or longer
7/17/2011 Silver Lake State Park by Bill
Boaters paradise, Clean lake - The Best Beach in Mid west, just across from the state park
- My family and I made a 1+ hour trek mid-day on a summer Saturday to the preserve only to find it closed. My advice is to email ahead (there is no phone number apparent) to be sure entrance to the preserve is allowed.
There is fun for all--- - Did not camp here, but this place has lots to offer- swimming,fishing,walking,tubing-a family couldnt ask for more.
not worth the trouble - i was disappointed i drove two hours to look at the camp ground and the ranger told me i could not go thru to see the campground i will never go back to michigan camp grounds again michigan is a joke
great site - E camp alot everywhere. We love the sites with trees and greenery departing the sites. Feels private love it. Lake at fishing pier little weedy.
7/13/2011 Brimley State Park by Armyengr
Great park for kids - Camped here 5-9 July 2011, 4 adults, 2 children. This is a great place for kids--shallow sandy beach, playground and bike paths. However, I like a bit of privacy when camping and all the sites here are right on top of each other, you are always 20 ft. or so from your neighbors with little to separate you-very crowded. Washrooms are pretty decent for a state park.
The Beach - We have only visited the beach so that is all my review is about. The water was preaty clean and warm. Not to much sea weed. The sandy area could have been better lots of rock and the sand was hard but once wet my kids had fun. pleanty to play with and build sand castles. the grassy area was preaty clean as well. very little bird poop. I hate going to parks where there is poop everywhere. There is not to much shady areas so you will need to bring your own. the bathrooms are well keep and clean. Over all I really like this beach and I will come back for sure.
One of our favorite!! - We went to Traverse City for Cherry Fest this summer, it was a great time! They have tons of stuff do and it is all a great time. We stayed at the Traverse City State Park and it was wonderful. Very close to downtown, the festival, and the beach is right across the street. The bath houses were cleaned daily, they were not bad- I have seen worse! We will be coming back again, maybe this summer of 2011, but next summer for sure!
7/9/2011 Gogebic Lake State Park by THE GRIM,S
BEST OF THE BEST! - OUTSTANDING EVERYTHING
- great park. lots of private sites. nice hiking trails. nice beach. only negative is that beach is far from camping.
7/8/2011 Burt Lake State Park by Megan
Family Tradition - My family has been coming here for 40 years and with every generation it just keeps getting better. You CANNOT beat the beach....or really anything about this park. The near by attractions. A grocery store right around the corner. The crystal clear water or the sand...you will never feel sand like it!!!
7/7/2011 Sterling State Park by Lyin
Great - Wonderful!!
7/5/2011 Sleepy Hollow State Park by JLP
awesome fishing!!! - went there for a day fishing trip and the fishing was excellent. Caught some pretty big bass on top water baits (the hula popper works best). Found this place by accident and have been returning every summer for the past 3 years. park is very clean and peaceful. Our family enjoyed all the wildlife and friendly staff.....
7/4/2011 Bay City State Park by Jackie
Nice camping experience but... - The park was real nice, clean, friendly staff, and nice size camp spots. The ONLY downfall was the beach was nasty. the water was black, the beach was slimmy with nasty stuff washing up. there was no way I was letting my kids get in the water. The bike trails were awesome and everyone was friendly. would like to go back, but swimming is 30 minutes away in Midland. A lil camp store would have been nice.
A family Tradition - My grandparents use to bring their 5 kids to the warren dunes every year it has been a family tradition for years!!! This park is amazing!
Wonderful Park! - My family and I have been camping at this park for over 30 some years and we keep going back. This is a great park for families or couples.
6/19/2011 Gogebic Lake State Park by wolvmech
Nice Lake to Fish - Campsites right along the lake shore.
Fun for the family - My family has gone to this park every year, for 6 years in a row. We love it there because there is planty to do for the whole family. The only downside is that 2 of my kids go swimmers itch. Other than that it was great.
6/19/2011 Sleepy Hollow State Park by Ron Antes
Loved the Park - Very clean and was pretty quiet for a full park. Loved everything about the park and had a wonderful time. We will make this a regular camping trip once or twice a season.
6/11/2011 Otsego Lake State Park by Joan

6/11/2011 Aloha State Park by Happy Wanderers!
Aloha S.P. Luau - The Petoskey H.S. Steel Drum Band entertained at the third annual luau. It was great. We came here especially to participate in this event. Thanks to all the sponsors and people that made this possible.
6/8/2011 Harrisville State Park by Roseanne
One of the Best State Parks in Michigan - I say one of the best because I have not been to all the State Parks but I have been to at least 20 of them. Out of the 20, this is #1 by far. Beautiful Park. Very clean. Nice beach. Short walk or bike ride into the little town. Everyone in the park and town very friendly. We go to this park at least 2-3 times per year.
- very nice park, good place 4 kids 2 hang out. Expensive to camp over night if staying 4 awhile.
5/28/2011 Orchard Beach State Park by towya88
Great views with friendly people - Great place to camp. Awesome views and friendly rangers. We were there in October and they had trick or treating for everyone and had a nice hot dog roast with cider and donuts. The host and rangers put it all on and even went to the store for more hot dogs and stuff when they ran out. They made it a great stay and felt like a big family camping that weekend!!Highly recommended
5/28/2011 Sterling State Park by C in Waterford
Nice park - I feel that some of the reviews were written in haste. If you do not research the available sites and are just assigned one you may not get the area you want. There is more than one circle to camp in. THe field is just one. They have many sites available that are in full shade. THis is one of my favorite parks, the facilities are great. Of course they mow on Sunday afternoon... most people are not sleeping on Sunday afternoon. It is not their fault you happened to be. I have camped in tent there several times, and have been in a lovely area with trees and paths. It is very nice. Be careful how you belittle a business due to one bad experience and next time do your homework and choose a better spot.
5/25/2011 Onaway State Park by Dennis O
A real Gem - One of the oldest and nicest state parks. The staff is friendly and helpful.Nicole was very helpful and had all the answers.Kid friendly.
5/23/2011 Huron National Forest by Michelle S
Breathtaking views! - We have been hiking through the forest area for 5 years now, and every time we see something new and astonishing!
5/9/2011 Highland Recreation Area by Birdladyll
get away close to home - great hiking trails! not a lot of people there so you can get out by yourself and get lost for a while!!!

4/28/2011 North Higgins Lake State Park by Alice
Alice L. Terry - Most beautiful lake in the United States
4/20/2011 Lakeport State Park by Brian Reber
felt like we were in prison - dnr kept patroling and walking into our camp and other campsites just to be nosey and questions you on the tables if you bring your own they check to see if they are theirs even tho they are plastic and theirs are wood. Music cant be loud enough for you even to hear or enjoy. If you start laushing they actually will tell you to quiet down. They inspect your drinking habits, even if its just pop they treat you like your a drunk or criminal. There is really no fun in their camp ground. The beach is wonderful but that is all you can enjoy and if its raining u can forget that too.
My favorite - We have been going to Birmley State Park since I was 7 I am not 60. I love this park and always will
3/31/2011 Sleepy Hollow State Park by S. Raymor
Horse and hiking trails - Wow , what a goldmine. I walk my dog religously and this week we went to Sleepy Hollow. We saw a coon sunning himself in a large shag bark hickory ,two cranes setting up house.Heard a man running his beagles ( they did a remarkable job too !!) I will return very often. Nice well kept trails and they were marked well too. What a deal for ten dollars with your car plate. Thank You to the DNR and the Park manager.
3/23/2011 Interlochen State Park by Raney1163
My all time favorite getaway! - I grew up going to Interlochen every summer! We are trying to plan a trip there for this summer so I can show my daughter what it is all about and how much fun it is! I miss it!
3/5/2011 Warren Dunes State Park by Buffalo Bill 2011
Favorite Michigan Park! - We are from Iowa and love coming here every summer! The seven hour drive is not fun but this park is! FUN, and SAND, and SWIMMING!! We will be back again this summer!
3/3/2011 Bay City State Park by FD
Great place to park and hike the marsh. - I love to take my dogs ON LEASH and park at the center and hike to the marsh. Nice campground and they are working hard to provide a nice beach for swimming. I suggest if you take your dogs leash them and pick-up after them Leave it nice for others to enjoy.
2/27/2011 Newaygo State Park by Tiggie
Our favorite campground - we have delighted in camping there in 2010. looking forward to more fun and relaxation.
The BEST! - This is the best place in Michigan to camp and hike. We have done 3 family trips over the last few years. The kids like to stay around camp and I end up hiking at least 10 miles during our stay.
2/21/2011 Muskegon State Park by schmidt
Great Park - My Family went there it has great swim area, michigan Adventures is right down the road. You can sit and watch the boats.
2/18/2011 Traverse City State Park by National Park Lover
Close to Town - As a base camp for wine touring this campground offers the fastest route to breakfast at The Omelette Shop and off to Mission and Leelanau Pennisula wine tours. Found the Mini Cabins to be gems in the somwhat rough camping sites that had bare ground and many pine needles to sneek into the other campers tents. Be aware the campground is alongside the busiest road day and night in Traverse City if traffic noise is bothersome to you.
2/17/2011 Harrisville State Park by Andy
Best Park in Michigan - Vist this park every year, very clean, very well kept, Right on Lake Huron! Awesome Pavilion for parties and events! Great place to bring the Family! Downtown Harrisville is an absolutely amazing place to walk, shop and eat, and is less than 5 minuets away! Great Park, Great City!
2/16/2011 Higgins Lake State Park by Schmidt
Best Park The State Has. - This is the best family park Michigan has. I have been going to South Higgans Lake for over 20 years and im 34. The Firemans Mem. is right down the road from there. The town of Houghton has a ton of family activities. The little town of Roscommon is sweet and have the best canoe livery. Go if you have a chance.
2/15/2011 Straits State Park by hvillehappycamper
Watch the site you reserve! - My family camped their last june, during the St. Ignace car show. We had lots of fun, but the weather was rainy!! Many of the sites had flooded and standing water was a problem on many sites. Not really a good swimming area for familes to picnic and swim :(
2/6/2011 Aloha State Park by Karen
- Concerns about Aloha State Park 1. Why doesn’t Aloha have recycling? You talk about “going green” and looking at all of the overflowing dumpsters , why not offer recycling like other parks? 2. Since you have removed log barriers from the beach area south section, there is a problem with lots 259 & 221 with campers moving their campsite further onto the grassey beach area. At lot 218 there is a sign stating “No camping beyond this point” . Why can’t you put up a couple more signs to prevent campers on these 2 lots from spreading onto the beach area that other campers use. 3. We have camped at Aloha for 40 years and now dogs cannot swim on any beaches, not just the official “beach”. Where can dogs go swimming now? I can understand it at the posted beach where there are swimming buoys, but why everywhere? Ever try to explain it to your dog who loves the water and has always been able to go until now?
1/23/2011 Orchard Beach State Park by Heather
Beautiful Bluffs - On august 25, 2007 my husband and me got married at the pavilion. Very nice views and the pavilion was clean and an unbeatable price for the occasion. Kids and adults were able to enjoy the beach access. Beautiful sunsets. Wonderful memories!
1/13/2011 Young State Park by Nancy from Dearborn Heights
Our favorite park for the past 22 years! - Our family has been coming here for the past 22 years. We have tried other places and nothing compares. We enjoy boating on Lake Charlevoix and just relaxing on the beach. The park is great for walking and bike riding. We have met a lot of great people here and look forward to seeing them every year.
1/11/2011 Orchard Beach State Park by Diane
Great camp for a reunion - Lots of empty camp sites during the week. Clean park. Beautiful scenery. Lots of stairs to beach if caring kids or chairs and blankets. Lake is full of rocks. Bring water shoes. We drove to another beach to swim.
deer viewing - you will love being able to watch deer go thru your camping area, camp sites are large and shaded.
1/8/2011 Clear Lake State Park by kristin mccort

1/7/2011 Traverse City State Park by Tami
great place! nice and helpful people -
SITES TO CLOSE TOGETHER - SITES NOT TENT FRIENDLY TENTERS SHOULD PAY MUCH LESS VERY LITTLE POWER USED NO AIR, REFRIGERATION, POWER IN GENERAL
Our Favorite Park - This is one of the best parks we have been to. The staff are friendly and the park is very clean. We have been going there for the past 15 years and it keeps getting better.
12/27/2010 Muskallonge Lake State Park by Tim Barnby
My Childnood Favorite! - I spent summers at Northmere Resort on Muskalonge Lake from 1972 - 1982. This was my favorite place on the planet when I was growing up. I still remember the first time I hooked a really big Northern Pike. The bullhead cat-fishing was great too! They started biting at 11:00 pm and kept going until the sun came up.
11/10/2010 Algonac State Park by KWErick
Just love the place -
11/7/2010 Brimley State Park by htlk1999
Great Area! - We go camping here every summer. We love the Brimley area. You have lots to see and do. It is a great central location. You can get locally smoked whitefish and trout. You can take a day trip to the Soo area. Then the drive along lake shore drive. The park is clean and well kept. Water & electric with dump site available. Several Casinos and golf course near by.
11/3/2010 Lakeport State Park by Mike&Barb Bolle
Great Sunrise - Great clean park peaceful park enjoyed every minute of our stay, restrooms & showers very well kept !
Wonderful Place to Camp - We first came to Otsego Lake State Park almost 30 years ago. The park is lovely, the lake is beautiful and clean, the campsites are roomy, there is a wonderful bluff overlooking Otsego Lake at the north end of the park, and nearby Gaylord offers all the benefits of a small city. We love Otsego Lake State Park and always look forward to camping there.
10/8/2010 Muskallonge Lake State Park by dave hicks
great fishing - i was there in 1974 with my parents. and again this year its some of the best fishing you want.the park is great plan to go again next year.
GREAT SUNSETS -
10/2/2010 Harrisville State Park by gc from West Point
A beautiful place to camp in the fall - We have stayed here every year for about 10 days each, past several years. Park needs to trim trees and brush back quite a bit, though as so much is hanging down, scraping the units as you come and go. Sites need trimmed back considerably also. Employees are very friendly and helpful, ammenities are fine.
Beautiful park - Love this park. It is a beautiful place. Workers were extremely friendly and helpful. Could see Lake Michigan from our campsite. A million dollar view for $26! We will be back again.
- The beach and surrounding area were beautiful even though we were there after Labor Day. Sites were good sized and lots of choices. Bathrooms and showers were clean
9/25/2010 Bay City State Park by jeanilynn
feel like your in the middle of nowhere - i love camping here! Its a very clean park, You get that HAPPY CAMPER feeling. It would be a added bonus if there was a pool and maybe a little camp store. Lots of fun!!!
9/9/2010 Young State Park by Debbie Bok
Too Many Fees - I didn't know that state parks cost more than a hotel and there there are fee to get in the gate and then fees to move the camp spot. All in all our not holiday stay for 2 nights at the parks totaled 120.00 in all. This is the first time at any state park this has happened to us across the USA and we have camped in Michigan State Parks before but not here and this will be the last..
Good Park - Excellent camping, visitors are but very poor hard to get to beach
GREAT GREAT GREAT!!!! - We got to pick our spot out, it was beautiful!!! Right on water with view of the bridge!! Staff was extremely friendly! I would recommend Strait State Park to everyone and anyone!!!
Biking on the rail trail - My husband and I love to bike ride in the early evening down the rail trail. It is so peaceful and beautiful. Very impressed how many nice people we meet along the way. Great place to be close to nature and the wildlife.
8/28/2010 Port Crescent State Park by Tim
Family Park for 28 Years KIDS are GROWN - I have been camping in this park for 28 Years I love PORT crescent state Park my children are all grown but I return myself every Year. The thumb is a GREAT place to vacation. You will not be disappointed in this park. The beach sites are awesome and the lake is always gorgeous at anytime of day. I truly have some great memories here next trip their I hope to have grand kids the story lives on.
8/28/2010 Albert E Sleeper State Park by Tim Taylor Michigan
Sleepers & Port Cresent 2 ~ Great Parks! - Although I truly love Port Crescent sleepers has fond memories also. I have been camping in the thumb from 1979 to the current date today. Sleepers will always be one of my many stops I visit. I have always enjoyed this park with family and friends for the last 30 years. If you have every wondered what the great lakes look like this is the park to visit. The beach setting and the sun sets are gorgeous and always breathe talking. My children are grown but I will always visit the park once a year to stay and camp…maybe next trip or two might be GRAND kids I will keep my fingers crossed.
Great Park - We really enjoyed our stay at Van Buren State Park. One of the nicest state parks we have stayed at. Beautiful campground, great shower and restrooms. Clean, quiet and enjoyable. Nice access to Lake Michigan.
8/23/2010 Sleepy Hollow State Park by v17
Somewhat disappointed - Sites are too close to each other. Seems like not much privacy as we could constantly hear other conversations around us and both cars & people walking by our site at all times. Some campsites had a lot of trees, others were barren. Make sure you check beforehand. Facilities were ok. Overall we had a good time, but the campground left a lot to be desired. Would not go back.
8/20/2010 Lakeport State Park by lovelyladies
A day at the beach <3 - I took my daughter and two of her girlfriends there on a Thursday afternoon. They had a great time. Not many people on the beach. Very nice! They are planning on getting a group of kids to go back! Now if something could be done about all the rocks then we would give this park an Excellent!!
8/17/2010 Ludington State Park by jasonfromrochester
Watch the coons! - An adventure of a lifetime. Not for the Holliday Inn camper... Don’t leave food out though. You will be surrounded by 10+ raccoons that fearless in no time. They like to stare you down with their beady little eyes at night to get you to crack and feed them. Don’t do it. Keep it locked up!
8/11/2010 Cheboygan State Park by Beth
Nice - We enjoyed our stay but would like to see a path that could lead to the beach area from the campsite without taking the main road. Also would like to see the black and green trail lead to the campground without having to backtrack on the trails.
Love the parks! - Thank you very much. We love camping.
8/9/2010 Mitchell State Park by AMSheffer
Our new favorite park! - Wonderfully located park set on two lakes! The canal is a nice spot to sit and watch the boats. Campground is very clean, and staff was great.
8/8/2010 Saugatuck Dunes State Park by Susan

Recreational Paradise - Great Place to vacation and still close enough to go to Traverse City or visit the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore! Whatever recreational fun you like you can do it here! Boating, skiing, fishing, hiking, kayaking, swimming, golfing and hunting!
This is a beautiful part of Michigan! - This is our third trip in four years. It is a clean, clear lake hence the name. If you want peace and quiet and to be able to relax this campground is for you.
7/31/2010 Grand Haven State Park by Bennett0105
Best Beach In Michigan By far!!! - very clean and big with plenty of volleyball. Great little down town area near by, and excellent restaurants!
7/22/2010 Seven Lakes State Park by Jim
roads and rentals - roads need to be fixed and boat rentals cost to much other than these items nice park.
nice park - This is another very nicely run Michigan State Park. Love the trails and lake, and the CCC/WPA buildings - like a trip back in time!
7/22/2010 Petoskey State Park by Jen G
Been going here for years and love it! - This is a great place to camp! If you get a site in the Tannery part of the campground you can walk to the end of your site row and onto the beach!
Great beach -
7/20/2010 Higgins Lake State Park by Alfonso
DNR trouble - Let put it this way. 11pm all music needs to be turned off even if you have the volume at 1 out of 100. I talked louder than the music. Wood 5bucks per bundle. it burns for about hour and half 2 max. bring your own wood. KOA park a mile away was 10x better. you can play music loud even after midnight. Buffet in morning. the best part about higgins park was the walk to the beach. other than that dont dont bother.
7/18/2010 Interlochen State Park by Jskura642@comcast.net
It has everything! Plus the Music camp. - Interlochen has the largest variety of camp sites, plus the advantage of the National Music Camp across the stree!
A must go to camp ground every summer!!! - Summer fun with kids and choose swimming in 3 choices, Lake Mi. - Hamlin lake or the river that flows between the 2. The mouth of the river by Lake Michigan is our favorite spot to swim. In the fall the salmon run up the river, what special place to camp.
7/15/2010 Young State Park by Downstate Family
One of our favorite beaches - Just a gorgeous beach to while away the day. Have been going there for 20 years and still love it. We make several visits every summer. It is beautiful, the water is clear and clean. The view is spectacular, and there is nothing more amazing than watching a storm move in.....
Loved the forest. - Had a great time
7/14/2010 P H Hoeft State Park by campingams
Perfect for bikers!!!! - Absolutely perfect campground. Tons of sandy beach right on Lake Huron. Park and facilities are very clean. Most sites are grass and provide nice shade. We live only an hour from this park and have been there five times in the past 15 months. There is a wonderful bike path from the campground in both directions. Riding right on the lake toward 40 Mile Point Lighthouse is a nice easy ride. The lighthouse has free viewing and there is also an old ship wreck onsite as well as a gift shop.
7/14/2010 Aloha State Park by campingams
Green grass and lake view - This is a very well kept park close to Cheboygan. The park has very nice spacious grassy sites. Facilities are very clean. Nice lake breeze near play area- perfect for flying kits.
7/14/2010 Brimley State Park by campingams
Location location location - We very much enjoyed our recent six night stay at Brimley State Park. The sites are generous in size and with lots of lush green grass. Wonderful sandy beach with large ships passing close by all day on their way to and from the Soo Locks. Facilities were cleaned regularly and staff was extremly pleasant. I will add that there seemed to be increased vehicle traffic at this park day and night-this could be because of all the local attractions... something I noticed since I travel with a small toddler.
7/13/2010 Port Crescent State Park by Joel
Amazing park. - Couldnt ask for a better, more relaxing place to spend a long weekend. Awesome campground to be at in late October during their fall harvest festival.
7/13/2010 Sterling State Park by Tent Living
No what we expected at all - We were very disappointed in the fact that there was no shade to be had on our site (which I believe is advertised as some shade on website). We have a tent and baked all the time we were there. Our only relief was the beach and the water. The lack of trash containers was unbelievable for as many campers that were there. We noticed quite a few rules being broken while we were there and not enforcement, ie. dogs on the beach, alcohol in the park and the people beside us were not considerate of other campers, their dog was barking (approx 10 feet from our tent) while we were trying to sleep and the kids were yelling back and forth. Also, mowing of grounds taking place on a Sunday afternoon (we are trying to nap) We did enjoy the trail around one of the lakes, clean restrooms and showers (also great setup) and the beach was nice, but we were very disappointed in the over all setting (one big open field, not mentioned on website). We are pretty sure we will not be using this park again.
7/12/2010 Sterling State Park by dog40
- great place if you like to bake in the sun, not a tree on any site, dnr very rude
Great Place to Camp - Some campsites backed up to the water and were very nice. The other sites, however, were a short walk from the water and somewhat secluded. The beach was nice but not very big. View was great.
7/6/2010 Albert E Sleeper State Park by andrew
very accomodating - my wife and i got married august 8,2008 at the beach at sleeper state park. we camped out the night of the wedding and were congratulated all night long and were also given free firewood as a gift. we go back every year to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
Great Park! - Is the best!!!
Shell seeking place for Children of all - Children of all ages can enjoy both swimming and shell seeking, while enjoying your waters of Lake Erie. A beautiful spot to camp, cook out and let the kids run free...
6/28/2010 Van Buren State Park by Tracy
Great camping and swimming - We love this campground. Perfect for our big family. Beach is so close and the best sunsets ever. Bathrooms and showers are good and the sites are great. Reserving a campsite at Michigan State Parks is so easy and their discriptions help. We travel 3 hours to get there and it is just a perfect beach getaway.
6/22/2010 Holland State Park by slapshot173
Ole Cottage - Owned cottage in Holland cottage association until 1978 I want cottage back.
Yearly event - All the women in my family,(Mom, 3 sisters, neices and my granddaugther) go every August for 15 years. We look forward to this all year
By far, my favorite! -
One of my favorite parks - Big Portage Lake is excellent for swimming and boating. The campground roads are paved which make biking and skating great for kids.
My favorite place on earth - I am 13 so this is a childs prospective. I have been going to sleeper state park since i was 6 months old and my brother since he was 2 months old. My mom has been going since she was a child as well. We love this park and would rather go here than anywhere for a vacation. Right across from lake huron with a bridge that goes right across. Camp activities and all the great wonders of camping. We perfer to get a cite by the woods because we love the racoons. I know it sounds wierd but we love to wake up in the morning and see the little footprints across our camp site. We have so many memories and would recommend it to anyone and everyone. It doesnt matter if your lackidaisical or energetic theres always something for you to do. Also walking the peer, getting fudge and candy at the candy shop and going on a long kiyak ride are traditions here :) have fun!
6/15/2010 Pinckney Recreation Area by Melissa
Great Park - My family stayed in the cabin at Bruin Lake Campground, which is in Pinkney Recreation Area. We had a blast! We had plenty of room in the cabin. The view from the porch was priceless. They other campers were very friendly and the people that work there were very helpful. I plan on going there again some time soon. I would recomend this area to anyone who wants a relaxing retreat.

Made our Memorial Weekend! - Expansive beach, wonderful dunes, great sandbar, the prettiest I ever seen Lake Michigan. Would love to go back!

Amazing sandbar! - Grew up nearby and still love to come home. Stop by often to play volleyball.
5/31/2010 Algonac State Park by kersch19
Good size sites, but not private enough - Not great for privacy unless you can get a site by the riverfront or a nice walk-in. Walk-ins are also scarce as they have cut back from over 60 to 23. We stayed from 5/26-5/31. People walked through our site(103) quite a bit to get to the restrooms. But, most of the sites are a decent size and the park does have a great atmosphere. Still, we are looking into camping at private campgrounds this year.
5/30/2010 Holland State Park by Mike
Crowded - One of the most popular state parks in Michigan- waits to get in during the summer can be long plus you may not even be able to get in- the park fills up fast so you have to get there early. Traffic down Ottawa Beach Rd can get bad. If the park is full, there are County Beaches at the end of most of the East-West roads north of the park.
5/28/2010 Fort Custer State Park by pporthome
great for camping - We use this park every year for repeat camping, fishing, & hiking. have to look at the campsites some are small and others are good sized. Generally the larger sized provide privacy. We use the same site every year. This place has a nice beach also.
cant get enough - higgins lake been a faimly favorit since 1950s its the best lake in michigan
5/23/2010 Higgins Lake State Park by wjlw421@aol.com
Bad Timing? - We stopped there with the specific purpose of touring the CCC Museum..My father worked there and told us many stories of his adventures. His picture is displayed(according to relatives) just inside the door. It was 4th of July weekend and the museum was locked. We went to the park office asked for admittance. They said since it was July 5th, at the time, that we had missed our chance to see the museum. They tried to locate a worker who could let us in for a tour. But, none were available. Imagine that? On a weekend at a state park? I was sorely disapointed. That was four years ago. I have not been able to make the trip since.
5/21/2010 Sleepy Hollow State Park by David
Park is closing says park officials - Visited 5/3/2010
Amazing to see! - It is truly amazing to see the huge fish and clear view right to the bottom of the lake! If you were in the tropics you would pay $80/person or more to go on a glass bottom boat ride like this!
Perfect Vacation! - This is the fifth year in a row my family has camped at Young State Park there are so many things to do. We fish, boat, bike ride, take walks, play baseball and many more. The kids love it! Beach is always clean. There could be more shower/bathrooms, but the ones they have are always clean.
5/12/2010 Sleepy Hollow State Park by Piyas Bandyopadhyay
Great outdoors !! - Great:
Friendly staff - very very friendly
-*Super clean bathrooms
*great campsites *Mosquitos, racoons and poison ivys - did NOT bother us.. may be because of the time in year. **
Not so great -again may be due to when we visited
* Bathrooms too cold.
* No soap in bathroom (That is true).
* Bring at least 30 ft power cord.
* if you are hiking make sure you wear proper hiking shoes and not just sneakers.

Tips: There are lot of firewood around, do not just buy before looking around

Great place to camp. - Beautiful view from the campground. Decent bathhouse. I am a tent camper and appreciated the special sites for tents.
1/7/2010 Warren Dunes State Park by SMP
Best swimming on Southern Lake Michigan - This park is a great place for Chicagoans like me to take a dip in the lake on a summer day. The big dune is amazing and a challenge to climb. I have never camped here.
1/7/2010 Hoffmaster State Park by from Chicago
Crowded RV suburb. - It is comfortable and an okay place to stay for a few nights, especially with kids. A loud park in the summer due to big, packed-in crowds at campground. Big sites for tent campers like me. The beach is nice.

10/6/2009 Warren Dunes State Park by D.from Illinios
Beautiful views everywhere - Having to climb the tallest dunes is always rewarding when you get to see for miles ...and the forest growing right into the sand is almost otherworldly....Awesome place to relax and get away from stress.
10/4/2009 Higgins Lake State Park by Mikey NTH
Response to Tickets on Cars - You get the State Park pass at the entrance to the park proper, a little west of the CCC museum and across the road. The nursery remained in use many years after the park was established. There is another state park on the southern shore of Higgins Lake. (My parents have a cottage nearby and I have been to both parks many times.)
9/29/2009 McLain State Park by Nicole
Great Park - My family used to camp here all the time when I was a child, and now my husband and I camp there too. Its got everything; beaches, trails, great sites, showers, etc...
RACOONS!!! - We love the Bay City State Park and camp there regularly. The sites are generous and many of them have trees and are up against the woods so it has a real private outdoors feeling. The park employees are available but not nosey or intrusive. The only not-so-good thing the past couple years has been the RACOONS!!! They come out at night and are able to unlatch and get in coolers and also opened our tents even after we tied them shut with metal bread ties - YIKES!!! They are loud and destructive! This may deter our further use of the park.
9/26/2009 Algonac State Park by grtklksgrannie
Our favorite Park! - Very relaxing watching the freighters go up and down the St.Clair River. The campground is very well taken care of. We look forward to our 3 visits there every summer.
9/14/2009 Albert E Sleeper State Park by Laurie
One of my favorite parks - We have been camping at Sleeper for the past 8 years. We always go in the early fall for one of the Harvest Festival week-ends. The restrooms are clean and the park staff are all friendly and helpful. The camp host and the staff go out of their way to have games and contests for the kids. I always look forward to the fall camping at Sleeper.
9/7/2009 Fort Wilkins State Park by 4WDGreg
Excellent historical buildings - I loved touring the old buildings in Ft. Wilkins Park. They are in excellent condition and give a great glimpse into the life of a soldier from that era. There are lots of old artifacts to go along with the very well restored buildings and grounds.

Beautiful, Peaceful,Restful - Gorgeous- sunsets, quiet, listen to Lake Superior at night, able to walk or just lay on the beach all day
Very clean and quiet - Very clean, well-maintained restrooms and shower facilities for campers. Quiet evenings, no rowdiness ever in this park: nice for children. A great place to camp to enjoy the wonderful beaches of Lake Michigan...and close to South Haven. Include me as another fan of the Thirsty Perch...best perch on the Great Lakes !!

Used to be a favorite -- park closed - Went by Lakeport State Park - Daily use park -- and found it closed. This was on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Too bad.
Terrific Campsite - Went there last year with a few friends and we loved it! We were able to watch the sun rise and set on the beaches! Planning another trip this year and this is the only campsite that I even want to consider revisiting.

2/17/2009 Ludington State Park by 30 year camper
Best State Park in Michigan - By far the best state park in the state. Very large, can spend hours walking or riding bikes on paved trails within park. An hour walk will get you to Big Sable Lighthouse. The beach is very large and nice. Nice, old beachhouse. Has a river from the back of the park to Lake Michigan that you can float down on tubes. The town of Ludington and nearby Pentwater are neat. Lake Michigan sunsets are the best!!!
2/15/2009 Wilderness State Park by Janie
We honeymooned here! - I volunteered at this park for 8 fall breaks through Aquinas College. Then my husband and I spent our honeymoon at Sturgeon Bay cabin. It was wonderful. Peaceful, remote, beautiful, all that I hoped for and more.
A must see - Well worth the drive from anywhere. The views from the mountain and from the tower are spectacular. Many waterfalls to explore. The campground is a little sparse on trees but not much time spent at the camper.

Was extremely nice.... - We went last Summer in August 2008 and it was so fine. The only thing of note is that the camping areas are rather open and not a place to go if you INSIST on privacy. Going again this year but earlier.

Greatest Park! - I visited Muskegon State Park in August 2008. And I absolutely LOVED it! The workers were friendly, and everything was so clean. The bathrooms were awesome, and I loved the showers. From my campsite, there was a perfect path to the top of the trails. I hiked up every night with my book and chair to watch the sunset and listen to Lake Michigan. I also walked 1 1/2 miles to the lighthouses from the beach at the campgrounds. It was wonderful. I truly enjoyed everything about this campground.

10/12/2008 Young State Park by Jess
The BEST - The other woman giving the review below me is an idiot. She obviously is a city-slicker that would like to see a campground turned into a motel instead. This park is BEAUTIFUL.
9/29/2008 Warren Dunes State Park by Tom Becker
The best there is I go a lot !!!!!!!!!! - They have the best swimming beach out of all the Mi. beaches & I have been to A to alot of them.
9/16/2008 Tahquamenon Falls State Park by Witum
Beautiful with Bugs - One of my favorite places to visit. I first went there in 1957 with my parents. They had no observation platforms at the Upper Falls then, and very few wooden walkways. Everything was rather rustic and simple. There were few restrictions then and nothing to keep you from standing right out in the water above the falls, which I did in ankle-deep water. The flies and gnats were horrible in the early spring, worst part of my several visits.
9/11/2008 Warren Dunes State Park by B. from Indiana
Our favorite family destination - A lot of fun trails for family and nice swimming beach. Beach store had everything needed if anything was forgotten. Primitive camping was great!
9/2/2008 Higgins Lake State Park by disappointed visitor August 08
Tickets on cars - The CCC museum is a very interesting place to visit. Watch out. The sign says a permit is required yet there is no one available to get a permit or obtain a day pass from. The park staff is sitting in the parking lot waiting to put a ticket on your car while you are inside the museum.
Our favorite Park - Clean, GREAT park store, knowlegable and friendly DNR
9/2/2008 Warren Dunes State Park by TonyS
Worst State Park in Michigan! - Avoid this catastrophe at all costs! Super small campsites, located next to the freeway, and a train blowing his horn all night long will insure that you get NO SLEEP. The beach is dirty, and the bathrooms are unbelievably disgusting. Toilets overflowing everywhere. I would NEVER recommend this park to anyone.

8/20/2008 Sleepy Hollow State Park by pjk0326
We will return! - Loved the secluded sites with lots of trees, shade and privacy. Plenty of walking trails. We were warned to watch out for poison ivy so that would be a concern if you have small children. No soap in bathrooms! Definitely need long electric cord!
Best park been going there since 1954. -
8/10/2008 Newaygo State Park by Annual Newaygo Visitor
A great primitive park. - A great little secret north of Grand Rapids. The campground is in the woods and the boat ramp is very close and the lake great.
8/5/2008 Sleepy Hollow State Park by lsphillips
Very nice park - We stayed for 6 nights. Sites have a lot of trees. Make sure you have long electric cord.We will return
8/4/2008 Van Buren State Park by Brian
Great Family Camping. - The campgrounds are top-notch with great facilities. The beach is a bit of a walk from the camp, but a nice bike ride. The beach was a little dirty the last time we were there, but not usually that way. Campsites are well spaced and good size. Overall, good fun and not far from South Haven. Be sure and eat at the Thirsty Perch if you like fresh perch, good eats...
8/4/2008 Ludington State Park by Brian
Great beach, camping close quarters. - We had a great time at the beach and the lake was beautiful. Great bike trails, but more for older children and adults. However, the campsites are very close and curfew is not well enforced. But sites and showers are clean. Overall, we had a great time, but will probably look for more comfortable and quiet camping along Lake Michigan.

A FAMILY vacation spot - An awesome place to come and stay with the whole family. We come every year with a huge family and recomend it to anyone who loves the outdoors!
7/31/2008 Otsego Lake State Park by Whitman Clan
Family Favorite - My in-laws and family have been going to Otsego since my mother-in-law was a little girl. Now, my husband and I have been gooing since we started dating, married and had a family, over 30 years. We love it there. Now our kids are going. They come up when were camping. We love everyting about the campground. The Rangers are friendly, the bathrooms are kept clean, the park is just awesome.
7/30/2008 Palms Book State Park by wigglesmw
should be the 8th wonder of the world - kitch-ti-kipi, or the big springs is the most awsome natural sight I have ever seen. It is amazing to look down into the spring and see what the earth looks like underneath us. it is also a very well kept secret that many people have never seen. It is a must see.
Our favorite park!! - My family has been coming here since I was a kid. The place has been updated since then. The bathrooms are newer and clean, which is hard to find at a camping place. If you love to fish there is a canal to fish off that connects two lakes (you can fish off those as well). I just love this place!!
7/28/2008 Young State Park by annie from ohio
Great Beach - the beach is very nice, with lots of space to play for the kids and young at heart. the only draw back is the lack of restrooms and showers for the amount of people camping at the park. is kinda of close when getting a camper in a spot. maybe have people park cars off to the side of sites instead of in front of camp site.
7/27/2008 Burt Lake State Park by Peggy
One of our favorite parks - This is one of our favorite parks to stay in. It is close enough yet far enough away. For pilots, the nearby airport has friendly owners & nice runways.
7/23/2008 Manistee National Forest by Harper
Great for Backpackers - Hiked about 23 miles of the North Country Trail along the Manistee River in 2007 in summer. Fantastic views of the river and great swimming (the current is strong though so be careful). Trail was varied and enjoyable. Saw other hikers and backpackers but did not feel crowded. There is great birdwatching and native plant life to be seen.
7/20/2008 P H Hoeft State Park by Roz
good state park - large lots excellent beach area. would camp there again.
7/19/2008 P J Hoffmaster State Park by joanma
Close to the city, far from the stress! - The park is close to major roads, but tucked away in the trees so you can forget city life and enjoy Lake Michigan. There is a creek that is shallow and warmer than the lake so little ones can enjoy the water in most any weather. Climbing dunes and long beach walks are wonderful. A trip to the Visitor Center is a must.
7/15/2008 Algonac State Park by ..birdie..
AL-Go-NAC! - What a great park this is! Camping, hiking, biking, archery, and skeet shooting! Not to mention just a short walk across from the water! an absolute beautiful park, and wonderful people in the community. =)
7/5/2008 Grand Haven State Park by pbloss
Wonderful Day at the Beach - We had a great time for a spur of the moment trip. There is plenty of benches to sit on if you tire during a walk. The peir was wonderful and I cant wait to plan a trip and be more prepared to go and spend more time
7/5/2008 Higgins Lake State Park by summer visitor
A Park with lots of History - The CCCs museum was very interesting. A real piece of history. It seems with all the success of this Nursery Camp it may be directly responsible for the existance of the rest of the parks in the surrounding Lower Peninsula! The Upland Nature trail was great too.

Best Place in the World for Kids & Quiet - I spent every summer here, and these are the best memories of my childhood - hands down. It is a great place for the kids to run around. Lots of wildlife. Wonderful hikes down to Lake Superior. Great swimming in Lake Muskallonge. Worth the drive if you live in the LP.

5/20/2008 Charles Mears State Park by Morgan G
amazing ! - Im morgan, im a teenage girl, who is absolutly in love with this state park and campground. The beach is always so gorgeous. The concession stand has the best icecream and snack variety. We go camping there almost every year. Pentwater is also a wonderful place. If you get bored boating, jetskiing, sand surfing down Old Baldy, fishing, laying out, camping, you can always go to town. There are so many little shops. I have been entertained for 5 years, always wanting to return. Especially on the days in August with parades and fireworks ! I love this campground and recommend it.
5/12/2008 Warren Woods State Park by gdenby
A small jewel - Although Warren Woods is quite small, just over 1/2 square mile, most of it is primeval forest. Although the immense beech trees are in a slow decline, there are still many that are close to 5 feet thick, and 100 feet high. There are areas where most of the ground is corded with tree roots. There are several paths through the woods, and a sturdy foot bridge over the Galien River. Bird life is abundant. There are a few picnic spots in a less densley wooded area.
water awaits you across the road! - only 50 minutes from METRO DETROIT but far enough away to be a vacation. you can camp on the water ,or as some people prefer ,in the woods. stunningly pretty trails. they are P-E-R-F-E-C-T to run & bike.
5/10/2008 Hartwick Pines State Park by CSR

4/26/2008 Sterling State Park by Michelle Austin
Excellent walking/riding trail - Beautiful walking or riding trail along the water
hard to get a site the end of july -
Live close by and use this park often - We have traveled from one state park in Mi. to another for almost 25 yrs. Otsego State Park is excellent. With the additions of the boardwalks close to the beach from the camping sites, is definitely a plus. It is close to Gaylord, Mi. (less than 10 minutes) to shop at WalMart, other grocery stores, movies, eating out. The lake that the park sits by is filled with great fishing, and swimming is also popular from the nice beach area/store. There are not many drivetru sites, but the sites are not small, and many are facing the water from the bluff. I highly recommend this park!!

4/22/2008 McLain State Park by Cornish cousin.
Worth a visit all year - I enjoy walking (or snow shoeing!) through the park at all times of the year and make a point of visiting at least once during our visits from England, about every six months or so.
4/19/2008 Manistee National Forest by Dion From Oceana/Muskegon Co.

4/16/2008 Lakeport State Park by Jacob Van Wagnen
Great Accomodations - Lakeport was very hospitable when I visited last season. I enjoyed the modern shower and restroom area along with fairly large campsite accomidations. There is a wonderful beach area in the park with direct access to lake Huron. The beach was a bit rocky but the sunrise was to die for. I definatly plan on visiting again this Summer.
