8/29/2011 Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park by Sarah Brown
Something for everyone! - Nestled in the woods near Summersville lake is a hidden history gem. There are several trails, a couple of overlooks, lots of historical settings with discriptions, a neat little cottage with very friendly staff. The restrooms were emaculate, the playground perfect. They have park benches, picnic tables, shelters you may rent, and a paved road to run, or ride your bike. It is gorgeous with lots of wildlife!!
8/25/2011 Cass Scenic Railroad State Park by Pittsburgh Dave
- Stayed in the company house for two nights and it was wonderful. Clean and comfortable and staff was great. Ride to bald Knob was a super experience. We plan to do it again next year.
7/18/2011 Cabwaylingo State Forest by amy fields
- We stayed last fall on Oct 1st in the cabins and had the best time, wood fire place was nice but the nights got cold and had to keep feeding the fire. Make sure if you stay in the fall you bring in lots of wood and bring an extra electric heater and blankets. Every thing was nice and clean and we enjoyed it so much.

The Rhododendron Flowers are Amazing - The rhododendron flowers at Grandview state park are amazing. They are nearly 20 feet tall in some places and they almost cover the entire parking lot. I took a video of this when me and my kids were there. Here is the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eP3X7DM7MXQ We really enjoyed the old Indian tunnel too, that was really neat. I think my kids were a little apprehensive about going in at first. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BZhDqhxf_U

11/23/2010 Valley Falls State Park by FamilyOf7
Family friendly - My family loves going to Valley Falls. We just discovered this beautiful park over the summer. We made several trips and my children cannot seem to get enough of the new play area. We drive 30 minutes just so the kids can play there after we go for a walk along the trail.

9/27/2010 Watoga State Park by Leslie Gallian
The most beautiful place on the planet - In summers when we take our girls to see some other part of the country for vacation, they whine for days about not getting their time at Watoga State Park! It is a true vacation for families in this day & age of fast-paced living, electronics and noise. You get a break from all of that.
Great park! - It will be a good place to stay
8/20/2010 Blackwater Falls State Park by Carol
Years of Memories - I grew up in Tucker County. We had our 1962 Senior Class Prom in the Lodge. It was wondrous! We are spending the summer here and have taken all our visitors to the Falls, the Lodge, Lindy Point, Pendleton Point. It is just spectacular!
Beautiful, well-maintained park! - My husband and I stayed at Lake Buffalo. The forest was beautiful and we saw lots of wildlife! It was just a short drive to Spruce Knob where we visited the highest peak in West Virginia! I would love to come back!

6/3/2010 Panther State Forest by drhrsr
A great place to visit. - Panter State Forest is one of the best recreation sites I have every attended.
Great Scenery, Poor Service - Scenery is beautiful, and cabins/lodge are clean. Affordable. However, staff not knowledgeable about events and can seem unpleasant. Had two very poor and expensive meals at the lodge restaurant. Very hit or miss.
5/23/2010 Panther State Forest by Diane Collins
my favorite park - My grandparents and their children was raised on top of that holler. The place was then called Bee Ridge. When I was young we spent every free moment in park. My father and mother are resting in graves above the pool. I moved away a few years back. Spent most of my time traveling. I am looking forward to this summer so I can take my grand kids there.

Our favorite trip - I rented one of the 8-person cabins, and took my kids, their kids and wifes. We enjoyed a wonderful week of family togetherness in 2009. Beautiful place. No better vacation anywhere. I have already booked for 2010.
1/21/2010 Grandview State Park by Nick
Great - We went there a couple weeks before Christmas and it was great. My brother got engaged while we was there on the overlook great view the cave.
very peaceful - The park is very pretty and it is very relaxing, you can walk the trails or you can go to the museum..
- This park is the best I have been to in the Virginia and West Virginia area. The landscapes constantly change from meadow to deep forest or rocky water way. I definitely plan on taking many more hiking trips here.
11/25/2009 Blackwater Falls State Park by jamie V
Great getaway - My family has been celebrating Thanksgiving here since 1998. We have lots of great memories! It is a wonderful place to relax, enjoy nature and spend time with family and friends.. The people there are really friendly too and we look forward to returning each year.
11/24/2009 Hawks Nest State Park by STACY JUGERR
A HONEY MOONE TO DIE FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - After my husband and I got married at The Glen Ferris Inn we soon made our way to Hawks Nest where we rented the cutest cabin! The friendly service was, I tell you shocking I never had such friendly service. All of the activities were just amazing and it is well worth the money. We would recommend it to anybody. Actually our friend Elizabeth and her husband went and they really enjoyed themselves as well. Anyway we were doing our thank you notes and I couldn't think of any other way to thank you for everything.
11/21/2009 Beartown State Park by 14K photography
Easy access, beautyful formations - Only down side is it is hard to find when coming North on Rt 219. Bring lots of film or a large memory card. NEEDS A LARGER SIGN to find easier.

10/15/2009 Grandview State Park by Tom
Place in Heaven - As a child I lived in Beckley and always enjoyed my trips to the park. This past summer as some coworkers drove through Beckley we stopped. As one of the ladies walked toward the overlook no words could describe her reaction. It was the most beautiful site she had ever seen. She kept talking about for days. The pictures do not do justice to what you see. It is what you hear that is amazing. The sound of the river!!!!!
nice relaxing park - beautiful scenic view

9/21/2009 Tomlinson Run State Park by Bill Owings
Hidden Treasure - I grew up in New Manchester and spent my youth in TRSP. Every time I visit my folks (still residents), I take some time to hike a trail or two and discover some of the things I may have overlooked as a kid. The park is always very clean and it allows for a great deal of solitude. I would give anything to have this beautiful place a few steps from my back door today.
9/17/2009 Pipestem State Park by Christi, Ohio
lots of options - I went for a family reunion and stayed at the resort at Pipestem, we rode horses very fairly priced and played on the trails and had a big picnic under a shelter. We had loads of fun...it is beautiful and there is a trolley car that takes you up the mountain for amamzing views. The park is clean and scenic.
8/30/2009 Watoga State Park by Tim from N.C.

8/17/2009 Sandstone Falls State Park by Ashley
Completely Awesome! - We have fam in W.V. and just got back from a week spent in that great state. We stayed in Hinton and drove up and down mountains everywhere we went. Gorgeous! We spent two nights camping at Bluestone, packed up and headed to Sandstone for some more fishing. We fished right on the bank, down from the falls. Wading and splashing in the water, climbing rocks, and hiking trails all day. You want to see pure, natural beauty, go to Sandstone.
Campsites right on the river. Loved it!! - Our family has gone there for years. There are great campsites right on the river that are really big. Great trails! Fun to swim in the river!. Water is clear except after rain.
Want to come back every year!!!! - We loved CRSP, only 100 miles from Falls Church, Wash DC area, beautiful, lots of deer, fishing, swimming, golf, hiking, see the OVERLOOK, ride the horses (Rich & Casey Cox are great outfitters, great horses, great trails). It was awesome and so much fun.
7/25/2009 Grandview State Park by Penguindesign
This place should be famous - After visiting the Greenbrier Resort, We stopped by visited Grand View State Park. It was absolutely gorgeous, brethtaking view. Anybody who is near the area should pay a visit, you will not be disappointed.
7/24/2009 Watoga State Park by Charlie in Salem, Va.
Quiet Camping - We enjoyed it. My wife and 2 kids (12 & 15 years old) hiked, fished, swam in the river and biked on the Greenbriar River Trail. Wish they had water hookups but bath house was clean. Park was very clean and quiet. We will be back.
Historically Significant - The spa treatment was so unique. To think that people have been coming to this spot for hundreds of years is almost more than I could comprehend. The Roman Bath was very relaxing and the massage was very nice. A fun activity!!
Beautiful Park - This is a beautiful park. With all of the rain lately, the falls had more water coming over it than people have seen in 20 years. The views from the overlooks are breathtaking.
Beautiful - Absolutely Beautiful, espically on the train ride up to Bald Nob!!!
6/4/2009 Seneca State Forest by Candi
Location...Perfect... - My family and I went to this park last week & it was great!! Close to Cass Rail Road, Hidden Valley Falls, Snow Shoe,& the National Radio Observatory. The cabins are wonderfully kept, & stocked w/ your essentials, wood, dishes, beds, ext. The vacation was the ABSOLUTE best, and relaxing w/o any technology.(i.e. cell phone or radio service or TV) which is just what we needed. The lake is stocked well & was a 2 minute walk from our cabin. If you take the scenic route back to Charleston you can swing by Hawks Nest, The New River Bridge, Gauley Bridge, and Summersville Lake. Which is just what we did. We are taking the kids back in August. We had a fantastic experience...Even better then the beach!!
6/3/2009 Canaan Valley State Park by vatrekker
Wonderful State Park - Thouroughly enjoyed our stay in May. There is great scenery, and nice hiking trails. The cabin was very comfortable and lodge facilities were very good.
5/26/2009 Cabwaylingo State Forest by PCH
Great Stress Relief - Stayed several days in one of the cabins and loved the tranquil setting. Loved to hear the birds sing and listen to the water trickle across the rocks in the creek right in front of the cabin, which was also a great place to trout fish.
5/20/2009 Tygart Lake State Park by Frequent visitor
An excellent get-a-way - Beautiful, charming, romantic. Great view of lake, nice rooms, great restaurant, pleasant staff. Nice hiking trails and view of dam.
5/19/2009 Kumbrabow State Forest by Michelle D
A favorite place of ours. - Love this forest. Cabins are great. Beautiful area. love it.
Great Food - I recently traveled to Watoga and had the best meal in any State park. What a joy. The Pretty Penny, a little restaurant in the heart of the park was serving locally grown foods and it was delicious. What a wonderful trip back to West Virginia. It is so beautiful there. I love Watoga State Park.
4/26/2009 Sandstone Falls State Park by Robin
wilderness beauty and peace - When I lived in Sandstone as a boy I could row up to the falls and not see another person all day. Now, a wonderful series of boardwalks opens this treasure to everyone.
3/22/2009 Holly River State Park by max04339087
fishing - i fish all over the state and holly river is by far the best place to catch trout. there is plenty of small pools and fast ripples for them to hide in but i always catch my limit and i have a great time. the park is beautiful.
2/19/2009 Hawks Nest State Park by Paula- Camden, NC
Our all time favorite place - We love this place. The lodge stay is great we stay here every Dec on our way home and back. It has awesome views of the river from the rooms. The trails are nice and the park staff is awesome. It is a must stay!!!

Dolly Sods - Dolly Sods is an amazing park to visit. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a day trip or a week long adventure. I will definitely be making a return visit.
10/21/2008 Blackwater Falls State Park by mark
part of my life - 1964 was my first visit staying in the cabins with my parents and grandparents. Have returned many times over the years. My grandparents are gone but the memories we made there will last forever. Is the best that WV has to offer, a true treasure.
A Beautiful Park - Has many outstanding trails throughout the park. the overlook has an amazing view of the Cheat River. Great place to relax. best to visit during fall while leaves are changing.
9/9/2008 Blackwater Falls State Park by Bob Elyard
The Falls my favorite hangout - I used to ride my bike out there almost every day. I loved the freedom it represented for me. My grandparents owned Likins corner Restaurant and we had visitors from across the country who just loved Blackwater Falls. Even my family made regular trips there throughout the summer. I now live in Alaska, but my memories are still with the falls.
Fun for everyone - The whole family can enjoy this area including your dogs! There are beautiful trails and streams. Fishing is available and the scenary is amazing.
8/24/2008 Lost River State Park by Mrs. M. C. Gillespie
Our first family vacation - My husband and honeymooned here in 6-07. We brought our sons ages 9 and 13 here for our vacation. Getting away from the noise of the capital city was such a relief. So quiet, so peaceful, so clean and green. I am certain it is the first of many wonderful weeks spent getting back to our Mountaineer roots. My eldest son is autistic, so we have to consider his needs when picking a vacation site. This fits the bill for serene beauty with family oriented activities, entrenched in history, beautiful and comfortable cabins, we had a rustic cabin with a fireplace. It allowed the kids to roast marshmellows and make Smores, and gave the adults a warm fire to enjoy after the kids were tucked in bed. Lost river has all the ingredients for a family vacation. It is a definite tradition now for my family.
Beautiful! - Although this park is very small, we thought it was a wonderful place to take our young children to teach them some of our states historical facts. We were very disappointed that the museum was closed, but it was still a good experience for our family.
7/21/2008 Blackwater Falls State Park by John F. Scott
West Virginia at its finest - When I was kid, this was my favorite place; I even planted pine trees here as a Boy Scout in the late 50s (and I remember the glorious sounds of the falls when we camped out there). It remains my favorite place in my native state.
7/18/2008 Watoga State Park by Wayne

7/7/2008 North Bend State Park by justnanof6@aol.com
One of our favorite place to camp - We camp here several times a year. The kids love the pool. And we like the quietness of the park.
We had a wonderful time - My friend and I just returned from a long weekend stay in Berkeley Springs and I must say the best part were the treatments at the bathhouse. Best massage I ever had and the least expensive. Highly recommend.

Our favorite place to camp - We absolutely love this park! Beautiful scenery, excellent camping, fishing, hiking...the kids have the best time here...I compare all other campsites with the ones found at Camp Creek

Very scenic and beautiful area. - Facilities were very clean and the camping area was very well maintained. Visited in mid-October, the falls were flowing and the deer abundant. The camp manager was very accomodating and both a pleasure to work with and visit with. Hope to be back again this year
4/23/2008 Twin Falls State Park by Dirk
close to home - I have been a resident of Florida my entire life. I have recently moved 30 minutes away from the park. It is amazing. Extremely beautiful. The scenery in the entire area is breathe taking.
