The Old Growth parts of the forest are a good metaphor for this whole park. A visit here is a way to visit the area's roots. To see the trees a bit like they once were. Remember, this whole state was named for...more

Great place to view wildlife - I am a birder and also a volunteer at this park/lake. I check for new eaglets and monitor the bluebird boxes. I have seen red fox, red bats, deer of course, and many great birds as there is such a diverse habitat. The creek that comes into this place flows from around Indiana, PA through the lake/park and out into the Allegheny River at Rosston, PA

My favorite place to escape - Really looking forward to the reopening of the park. Seeing the beautiful falls, walking the trails, enjoying the outdoors with my family is always a good day, Childs Park is my favorite escape.
3/3/2012 McConnells Mill State Park by AmandaMarie
Simply beautiful, but can be dangerous - Amazingly beautiful park with tons of trails to hike at all levels! Places to have lunch. Old covered bridges w/ historical signs to guide & enlighten. Gorges & hills & amazing waterways! Please be very careful tho.. many people have drowned in these waters from either trying to swim or falling while climbing the many peaks. Other have become lost when they went off path. Great for everything from fishing to hiking to simply walking you dogs!
The Best Place to Camp - We have been taking our kids camping there for years. They love the beach, bike path, playground, creek and hiking. So much to do. I enjoy taking pictures of the beautiful surroundings.

10/13/2011 Promised Land State Park by Tommy-Bahama
LONGTIME PROMISED LAND PARK VISITOR - The first time I visited Promised Land Park was in Oct.1961. My friend Chet had rented cabin 3, Tuscarora for the full week. Bob, Rich, and I arrived Friday evening amid rainy weather. Back then the cabins were really RUSTIC. There were outhouses that occupy the area where modern wash/shower/toilet facilities now are. Back then the park rangers supplied a hugh mountain of firewood just outside each cabin. You had to bring an axe to split the wood. We really enjoyed the open fireplace inside the cabin; very cozy but not fuel efficient. Back in 1961, the park did not have all the modern conveniences as today. We had a pump outside our cabin to fill our water buckets. Also, there were no modern concession stand or shower facilities near the swimming area. Things have changed, but I still have fond memories of weekends spent at Promised Land Park. I look forward to renting a cabin in Oct. 2012 with my son Adam to help me celebrate my 70th birthday year. Promised Land Park is one of my favorites within the Pa. Park System.

Fun Family Day. - Great hiking trails. Beautiful scenery. The Balanced rock is awesome. I used to love that place as a kid, and this summer I made it to the rock at 68.
9/23/2011 Ridley Creek State Park by jamie~
Great place to collect your thoughts - For me, Ridley Creek State Park has always been a place I can go to collect my thoughts. Once I’m in these woods, all of my Life’s worries just go away.
8/28/2011 Pine Grove Furnace State Park by david and sandy
Home away from home - As cabin owners,we can continually be restored with the all around beauty of forests, wildlife and water.it does not get any better than this.
Nuisance inspections, - Love boating in the park , but not worth the hassle given by fish and game officers. Have visited the park approx 8 times this season and have been checked half those visits. Will no longer be visiting the park.
8/18/2011 Shawnee State Park by Honor camper
Great park, avoid the boat rentals - The park was beautiful, clean, and well maintained. However, avoid the boat rental concession. Only 2 of 10 or so paddle boats were operational and then our boat ended up sinking. A black eye on an otherwise nice park.
8/16/2011 Mount Pisgah State Park by Rhonda
Family Fun - we have had nothing but a great time with family and friends, when you cant go to far from home this is the perfect spot with lots to do, fun for every age
8/10/2011 Ole Bull State Park by Roxyj1959
Favorite Park - We love camping here. I have camped there for over 40 years. Nice trails, large old-growth pine trees. Small park is less stressful and laid back. Pristine Kettle Creek for fishing and swimming.

7/25/2011 Pine Grove Furnace State Park by blonde
Paradise! - This park is small, the folks are so nice, the hosts are very helpful, all staff is friendly, the trails are excellent- from the beginners up to the advanced; they are well marked and well cared for too. This is my favorite place- not just to camp and swim, but literally my favorite spot in the world :)
- Beautiful overlooks of the canyon. Nothing close to this in Minnesota. The camping area looks well maintained and organized. If camping in the area, get used to wolves and coyotes howling at night.
7/1/2011 George W Childs State Park by John Ciesielski
Sweet - I was blessed with my many visit.
A Favorite of Ours - We live relatively close to this park and enjoy visiting it very much. Very nice place for families as it has a sandy beach and swimming area as well as picnic pavilions and plenty of tables. Small playground and sand volleyball court. Also fishing and non-motorized boating allowed. Some nice programs in summer and a very nice visitor center. Highly recommend.
- A very nice park. Secluded yet within reasonable distance to town. Sad to see that the pool was closed and removed. Spent many happy hours there. Grounds are beautiful and the restrooms very clean and well-maintained.

Wonderland - Codorus is a veritable wonderland from the hiking trails and beautiful lakeside picnicking areas to the water-park style pool. I have camped frequently in this State Park and visited Codorus on daytrips many times. The disc golf course is really fun. My niece loves the horseback riding, and my own children love fishing and riding their bikes throughout the campus of the park. Whether you are looking for a nice place to spend the day or even looking for an economical family vacation, this place is fantastic.

campsite map - We have made a week-end reservation for August, 2011. We know our site number, however cannot download a map of the camping area. If anybody has one, can you please scan and email to oicm@zitomedia.net? Our family reunion is the reason why we are staying for the week-end and we sure would like to know where our site is with relation to the pavilion. Thank you.
Our four grandsons love this park . -

Fun, Relaxing, Quiet & Safe - We traveled from Germantown, MD for several days trips and camped at the resort 4 times over the summer. Enjoyed ourselves very much, staff was very polite, beach was clean, campgrounds were quiet, relaxing and accomadating in every way. We will see you again this year for another great time.
5/15/2011 Chapman State Park by Kim and Jeremy
Beach is great! - A great camping experience for all! The beach area and bath house are top notch! You can buy treats for the kids at the food stand and prices are very reasonable. The camping sites are well maintained and you are not right on top of one another. Looking forward to many many more years of camping, picnicing, and playing at Chapmans Dam.
Good horseback riding trails - First trip to Jacobsburg with the horse, was a great ride. Good trails, many well groomed, a couple segments were a little rocky; not much mud (this written in the middle of a very wet spring).

Our favorite PA park - Have owned a cabin within 2 miles of Poe Valley State Park for 40 years. Love it for the fishing, picnicking, solitude in the winter, wildlife, especially the ducks and geese. You never know what will be on the lake.
2/11/2011 George W Childs State Park by AshburnStadium
No longer a state park - This park is no longer part of the Pennsylvania state park system. It is now called the George W. Childs Recreation Area, and is a part of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Swimming, once very popular in the pools beneath the waterfalls, was banned when the National Park Service took over.

Camping Season - Camping season is first Friday in April and ends third Sunday in October. Shower are usually open until the end of camping season
10/27/2010 Tyler State Park
A Great time...but a challenge - My dad took me riding early in the morning around 10:00. The horses went through the trail without many problems. However when we came later another day the horses refused to go through the gate and thus a tour guide and to push them through. It is a beautiful trail, but sometimes it can be difficult to get the horses going.
10/27/2010 Tyler State Park
Stubborn horses but a Great RIde - I have tried going different times in the day to see at what hour the horses were more up to the trail ride. There were a few times where a guide had to pull us through. However when my dad and I went without a guide on a day when the horses were being cooperative we had tons of fun. I could not stop talking about the horse that I rode and I could not wait to go again. It is hard to get the horses onto the trail but over all a very enjoyable ride!
10/26/2010 Marsh Creek State Park by maximumride
LOVE IT!! - it is a really good park. very beautiful. the kids though it was fantastic. lot of things to do. looking for something to do? this is the perfect thing. the only bad thing is the that the nearest food place is kind of far away, but thats ok. me and the kids give it an A++

great place to go to get away - We have been boating here for 2 years and this year we stayed in one of the cottages. what a great place to just escape reality for a weekend...
Our favorite weekend getaway spot! - My husband and I love Raccoon State Park, we have rented a cabin there for the weekend on several occasions. Very nice park, friendly staff, very relaxing..Highly recommend going there.
Love this Park - This is our favorite weekend getaway spot - it is close to home for us but the park is worth the drive if you live further away, very beautiful and relaxing. We have rented the cabins several times for the weekend-you will love it there- we do!
Great place to visit and learn - I loved my time at Hopewell Furnace. It was great to have the time to walk the grounds, see the workings of the furnace, and read the interpretive markers/info. A great experience. Very educational. I will be back.
Make sure u get ur confirmation email - I made a reservation for a cottage as a gift to my hubby for his bday...got confirmation for the reservation after i put my card number in but when we arrived there was no one around and the cottage was locked..so we ended up coming back home. We usually stay on the primitive side but with the chilly nights thought now would be the time to try a cottage. I was suppose to receive an email confirming for the site which I did not this time so some one dropped the ball...and i should have called the park before we left. So my hubby got a 3 hour ride for his bday. This has not ever happened to us before and we camp on the primitive site a lot....we love the hikes & the lake. So we will do this again but not without the confirmation email.
9/13/2010 Beltzville State Park by jack
need better accomodations for boaters - when beached at picnic area , boats get banged up do to other boats comming down the lake. should think of picnic areas in no wake zones like at preachers camp for boats to tie up and picnic on shore
Best Park, Hidden Jewel - We visited this park twice in month of August 2010. The park is awesome!! Bring the family, take a hike, bring a towel and have a picnic. The kids will remember it for a long time and so will we. We discoverd this park by mistake while going to Dingmans Fall.

8/31/2010 Little Pine State Park by Sherrie
Wonderful Time - I took four children for a weekend at the park and we stayed in a yurt. Was a wonderful experience for all of us. There was a Park Naturalist John who had some great programs and the children looked forward to each movie and program. The naturalist center was so educational and enjoyed by all. It made our first experience at a state park wonderful. We were there for August 21st weekend.

8/26/2010 Beltzville State Park by Jilly Vere
Need More Grills! - Very clean, free admission, beautiful lake, plenty of pinic tables,...but HARDLY ANY GRILLS. The motor boats/jet skis should be petitioned off from bathers a bit more, too.
Beautiful River - I have canoed many times on this river. It has little islands in it to camp on. A great place to spend the whole weekend!
8/23/2010 Cowans Gap State Park by Lisasfamily

Our favorite park - I love it here. I would love to get married here just not sure how to go about doing it.
8/22/2010 Beltzville State Park by OswegoKayaker
Fossil Hunting Fun - Came to collect marine fossils and found some very nice specimens. The park was very pretty and well maintained. I think they should only allow non-polluting boats in the water, the day I was there it was filled with jet skis and they were loud, dirty and annoying. The bathrooms were pretty clean but the water only stayed on for about 2 seconds, hardly enough to wash/rinse your hands. Overall it was a very positive experience.

Beautiful Lake! -
8/3/2010 Presque Isle State Park by Holly M
Gem - Presque Isle is truly one of the most beautiful places on earth. The forest & especially the beaches. It is the gem of lake Erie! The state needs to work hard to protect the serenity of the beaches by not allowing boaters to park close to shore, though. Their music, grills ,and sheer volume- 4 boats inside the stone markers at the lighthouse beach forced us to move- the natural beauty of such a wonderful place was marred.
8/3/2010 Beltzville State Park by 4tommy
My first trip - My first visit after a lenghty time living in PA myself, I enjoy the view, scenery and all surrounding. Above, it a very family oriented and pleasent to visit.

canyon country campground - a group of 8 of us went camping to celebrate the one yr anniversary of me finishing chemo for breast cancer - chemo is more fun then this campground - rules are posted everywhere - they are strictly enforced - not allowed to make a PEEP past 10 pm even on weekends - owner stands behind trees in the dark and spies on you - thanks for making my chemo more enjoyable than your campground - do not recomend

Snow Mobile trail a great hike in July! - Beautiful Sat. morning hike to celebrate the July 4th weekend. Followed the snowmobile trail that was very shaded by the woodland forest. Some areas the moss on the trail was as soft as carpeting. It was an easy hike, serene and green.

Wonderful Park - I used to visit this park as a child in the 1960s. I remember the great fun and sense of freedom I enjoyed there with my family and friends. My family moved to California in 1970, and I have not been back to the East Coast since then. I have been considering a visit. Lord willing, Childs Park will be on my itinerary.
LOVE IT - I LOVE CANOE CREEK!! my family has gone there since i was very young every summer and we stay in the cabins for a week and it is just BEAUTIFUL!
6/23/2010 Ryerson Station State Park by ginger
use to be the best park ever - now they took the dam out, there is no more concession stand, boat rentals, just the pool and they are not always opened. it was once a beautiful place to go and i think the state needs to recognize this and do something to bring this back to the way it use to be. then you will be busy more then ever. i still will come but i would like to know what time and days the pools are opened. the campgrounds are very nice they added 2 cabins, the trails are a big adventure for everyone and a good workout, if more people would get together and do something about it then maybe we can get ryersons back again. i remember going before the pool was even there. that is how long i have been going there. now i make that a place for my girls and I to go. several of my friends and there families have gone with me and we are planning to come real soon again.

6/17/2010 Tuscarora State Park by Mommy Schreiber
Very family friendly! - We went with 6 other families for the first time and had a blast. My kids are 9 and under and I would definitely do Tuscarora again. Brought the laptop for the kiddies but they never asked for it. Between going to the beach, playground, campfire, trails and riding their scooters they had a wonderful time. Bath house super clean. Not far from cabins or yurts. Never crowded for a shower. We rented a yurt since it was our first time but will do a cabin next time. The yurt was like a sauna in the afternoon. No tree shade over it. The yurt was clean. It was awesome to have a frig. We hope to go over to the other campsite for ice cream next time. We were so busy hanging out in our area. Great experience!! Would definitely recommend to young families.

Freezing Cabins awesome park - The cabins have no heat in winter but we managed to stay warm. It is awesome there in the winter. Had a wonderful time on the trails there. First date with my wonderful wife was there in Dec 2009.
Hidden Treasure - Yellow Creek is a beautiful park that is hidden away. The trails are nice to walk with you family but are not to long for kids. The beach is kept clean so you never have to worry if you take your family swimming. Picnic areas are nice and the play ground is always fun for the kids. Fishing is up and down but it is like that at most places.
6/2/2010 Canoe Creek State Park by GLK
Camping? - We love the park and really would love it if the park would have a campsite. They would make money and attract more people. This would be great!
6/1/2010 Sinnemahoning State Park by Liz
Our second home! - Every time we visit, we can marvel at the tranquility of this park. We love to spend time on our own, but can count on diverse educational programs held by the staff. We appreciate the efforts of everyone involved in maintaining this sweet place!
A favorite place to hang out with family -
Beautiful Park - This park is awesome!! Great for kids and adults! Bring a towel (you know the kids will get wet) and a picnic lunch!
5/26/2010 Poe Paddy State Park by BudG
Absolutely beautiful. Thank you PA! -
Pretty but MANY TICKS - We enjoyed seeing Dingman Falls, Toms Creek and Childs Park, but those places had short boardwalk trails. We decided to do a long several mile hike on McDade Trail, thought it was very poorly maintained and we turned around only after about a mile. Trail is overgrown and we were covered in hundreds of ticks each. So stay off of overgrown paths.
5/23/2010 Beltzville State Park by HKMH2363
The grass is way to high - The grass on the walking paths and in the park area is way to high. Also at boat areas.
Our Favorite Get-Away!!! - Thanks soooo much for re-opening. We love the cabins and love that there are showers now, the only thing better is if we could bring our yellow lab along.
top notch park - I have been to promised land a number of times for bike riding and marathon training. It is one of the most beautiful parks that I have ever visited.
5/18/2010 Salt Springs State Park by dragonflywoman
Romance and Beauty Abounds - My fiance and I hiked at Salt Springs this past weekend. I had been there many times, it was his first. We reached a spot on Hardwood Trail, where we both simultaneously decided we want to be married in that spot. It is truly a beautiful and serene place.
One of our favorite parks -

3/21/2010 George W Childs State Park by Pat
Hidden Jewel - My sister and I visited this park on Saturday, March 20, 2010. It was the first day of Spring and the weather was beautiful. We found this park while looking for another. The waterfalls are stunning and the picnic area is great. Bring the family, take a hike, and have a picnic. The kids will remember it for a long time and so will we.
absolutely beautiful and peaceful - we brought our kids there and now our grandchildren. very disappointed to hear that tuttle point is closing! this is one of our favorite places
3/11/2010 Colonel Denning State Park by Tent Travelers
Fantastic Camping Experience - Having heard the park was on the 2010 closure list due to the budget shortfall, we were relieved and thrilled to see it survive. My family and I spent the the 4th of July 2009 weekend at Col Denning State Park (CDSP) and had a wonderful time. There are several things we particularly enjoyed: the peace and quiet of the reservable walk-in tent campsites; the ranger orienteering program; the well-maintained and scenic hiking trails; the friendly volunteer campground hosts who sold ice/firewood; the clean vault toilets and the swimming beach. We have travelled to six states and the US Virgin Islands to tent camp. Little CDSP remains one of our favorite spots. Thank you Pennsylvania for keeping it open. We can not wait to return this year.
More trails needed. - I wish there were more trails within the park and better directions about finding access to the park. We lived in the area for years before we learned how to access the park. 3.5 miles of trails is really nothing, although you can access the green ribbon trail, not all areas of that allow pets or bikes.
2/21/2010 Codorus State Park by the washingtons from maryland
favorite weekend getaway - we started coming to codorus twenty years ago.the park is clean and peaceful. the fishing is great.the staff knows you by name and are very friendly and helpful.
2/10/2010 Blue Knob State Park by shawnsbruno
My favorite State park - If you like to be out in the mountains, this is the place to go. I been to alot of state parks in Pa, this one has the best trails. When camping here you realy feel like your in the woods not at a commercialized camp ground. The wildlife is great to. If you like peace and quiet camping this is the place.
2/3/2010 Hickory Run State Park by lighthousenut52kg
our favorite park for many years - Our kids have been raised here the past 25 years. We love it there. Follow the rules given at the office and no problems with bears. Only problem is they often allow large groups of kids in the regular sections of the campground, and there goes your quiet vacation week! I have told them about it and hope it changes but just in case I would check to see if there is a case of that in the loop you want to stay in before reserving!
My familys favorite camping spot - Please open Poe Valley up this year. My family misses camping there. We have waited a few years for it to reopen. It is a very family oriented state park and we miss going there.
1/23/2010 George W Childs State Park by Randy Palmer

1/8/2010 Ricketts Glen State Park by brindism
Worth every minute - We live near the park and hike up there almost every week-end. The falls trail is amazing but even the shorter easier trails are awesome in any season (epecially winter when the falls trail is closed to most).

One of the best places for family fun!!! - Little Buffalo State Park is an amazing place for summer fun along with winter fun!! it has tons of activities during summer and when winter hits usually the 17th of dec santa comes to the park for 7 nights in a a row. Other than santa appearing at the park, there is lots of neat christmas lights and decorations all over the park. it really is a great time to go with family n enjoy the scenery. alot of ppl also meet here to have family gatherings, reunions and so on, i say its a wonderful place if u havent gone already id suggest to do so!! There is plenty of activities for all ages during the summer months also as well. i think u'd have a wonderful time at Little Buffalo State Park.
Big timbers, great hike - I hiked this trail earlier this Fall. (2009) It was a nice hike, enjoyed walking across the top section of trail. Will do it again.
Poe Valley - Please open Poe Valley for this upcoming summer season. Two years is a LONG time not to be able to visit the greatest state park in the USA

10/17/2009 Chapman State Park by Marcus Welby
BEST CAMPING - I started camping at Chapman Dam the year before Bob Pepple starting running the park, around 1962.I camped every summer for 2 weeks for around 30 plus years.Just recently my wife and I where wave running at Kinzua Dam and took time out to drive to Chapman to see what it was like since many years had passed since camping there. It still looks like when we camped with a few changes.I was wandering if Bob Pepple is still around.Last I heard he was living in Youngsville. We are thinking of having a family reunion in 2010 !
10/10/2009 Kettle Creek State Park by Michelle Gross Ortlip
One of my fondest childhood memories - My grandparents and father took my two brothers and I to kettle creek every summer my whole life. I only visited one time in the past 25 years and it was the same exact way as it was when I was a kid. I am currently planning a trip there and will meet up with my two brothers. This will be the first time in about 28 years we have all been back on that mountain. No words to describe the feeling. Memories!!!!!
- BEAUTIFUL AND PEACEFUL. mor private than other campgrounds

9/8/2009 Ricketts Glen State Park by John Slike
Awesome falls views - Our visit was confined to hiking the loop around the falls, strenuous for our age (80), but well worth the effort. Spectacular views. A few more directional signs may have helped us find our way. We will go back some day.
9/7/2009 Hills Creek State Park by Mary Wise
Our second home - Hills Creek State Park has been a part of my life for the past 39 years. I camped as a teen, through my adult life. I was a camp host there in 1990-96. My children grew up there every summer. They became a part of an extended family. Everyone watches out for each other, even to this day. When my parents were living, it was the place we all gathered for those family events. And as they passed on, it was the place we went for comfort. We played together, we cried together, we fell in love there, we made everlasting friendships there...Hills Creek is one of the best kept secrets in the state of Pennsylvania....and oh yes, the men love the fishing......
9/6/2009 Locust Lake State Park by Duane V Duncan Sr

9/2/2009 French Creek State Park by DRH
Great Park and plenty to do! - We went fishing at French Creek and had a blast. The water is perfect and we even caught fish! We ventured out and stayed at a wonderful historic country Inn called the Waynebrook Inn, about 10 minutes south on Rt 10. The place was absolutely charming and the restaurant was the best we experienced in months. So, go...play and if you are staying overnight...check out the WayneBrook Inn.

peaceful and pretty - What a beautiful gem of a park somewhat hidden away. It was a great place for our family to take a relaxing hike/walk for the afternoon. The Watershed trail is really pretty and fun. The Boulevard trail was really easy to walk and jumped between deciduous and coniferous woods. The kids enjoyed a spring of fresh water coming out of small hole in a hill the most.

Amazing! - I am a local to the crooked creek area . It is a beautiful place along with surrounding area. TThough I have never stayed overnight at this park it has many attractions to explore. The major ones being the swimming, Hiking (The baker trail passes through this park)and fishing . The experience received at this park might not be as grand as other places but it is definitely worth a trip.

Great Educational Programs - We enjoy Greenwood Furnace State Park - educational programs and hikes. We look forward every December to the Christmas holiday event, horse drawn wagon rides, refreshments and the wonderful holiday ornaments the children get to make. A great place to be!
no place like home - I grew up in the area. Graduated from Bucktail High School. Always enjoy camping at the upper camp ground. Nothing hardly compares to waking up in the morning, watching the fog lift off kettle creek and off the mountain. The area is so peaceful,it is one of the best places to go to forget about the hussle and bussle of everyday life.
Best Park!! - I have the fondest childhood memories from this enchanting place!! Jason-Fiji

Love it! - My brothers and sisters and I spent many weekends camping at Fuller lake when we were young. They were some of the happiest memories of our childhood. I now live out of state, but when I return, we always return to Fuller or Laural Lake for picnics. Pine Grove Furnace brings back lots of wonderful memories for us.
7/10/2009 Gifford Pinchot State Park by PA Mom
NO Geese - This is a great park. Kids loved swimming in the lake. The best part was no geese. There was a small 1 foot gate around the part of the lake that they were swimmning in and apparently it works to keep the geese out. Just wish we had more time, but we will be back.

6/26/2009 Lehigh Gorge State Park by Al Mayer
An Enjoyable Biking Experience - Biking the Lehigh Gorge Rail-Trail was a fun and rewarding experience. Though I ride a tour bike, the crushed stone trail was packed hard enough to make this a very enjoyable ride. I would recommend this for all type bikes. A very well maintained trail. We had a difficult time finding the trailheads. Additional signage on the roads would be helpful.

Majestic Forest - We visit here every year with our family and we keep coming back. It is a beautiful, majestic forest with trails and creeks. Nice shelters for family get togethers and the kids have a blast.
Nice weekend getaway - We visit Francis Slocum at least 3 times a season for camping and absolutely love it. The people are friendly, the pool is great and the hiking is a lot of fun. The sites are well maintained and large -- we have always stayed close to the water. The rangers are around if you need them but they are not constantly checking up on you as they do at a couple of other PA state parks.

5/26/2009 Greenwood Furnace State Park by Scott A. Webster
One of our favorite parks to camp. - We love taking our son to Greenwood to camp and explore the outdoors. It boasts nice hiking paths and kept grounds. You can learn about the history of the park at one of the many shows @ the nearby mill. 4 out of 5 stars for us.
great place to camp - loved going there as a kid, we would spend a week there every summer. the fishing was excellent above and below the dam. lots of trails to explore and you can watch black bear and deer evenings.
5/24/2009 Sinnemahoning State Park by Carrie
The Serenity is Unbelieveable - I have visited this park the last two years in a row. It is amazing how serene it is. The campground is small, but just perfect for a quiet getaway. I have encountered all kinds of wildlife here. It is just a perfect place to visit if you want a simple and totally relaxing vacation.
What lake? - According to the hiking-trail book I purchased, there is a wonderful lake as the centerpiece of the park. The lake no longer exists. The dam that was created has been destroyed, draining all water from the lake. Where there was once a lovely sight, there is just wetlands and clearcut.
5/14/2009 Little Buffalo State Park by SassyNknowIt18
Most favorite park.. - I love Little Buffalo. I take my kids there to go hiking. There are many trails to hike on. The Blue Ball Tavern is full of cool things to look at. The mill is like the mill on Little House On The Prairie. They have an Apple Butter Festival in the Fall. Which is very cool. You can purchase apple butter and watch as they make it. You can also enjoy some tasty treats inside the mill. In the summer, there is no other pool like this one. There are water geisers all over the place. I love smelling people cooking out. If you are up for paddle boats, they are also availble at certain times of the year. Fishing is a huge thing as well. This park is my alltime favorite park..
- fun place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
5/8/2009 Bald Eagle State Forest by belinda
WE VISIT EVERY MEMORIAL WEEKEND - We have been camping here with the kids for over 18 yrs. The lake itself is a very good lake for Crappie. We camp on the rustic side and have always enjoyed our stay. Watch out for the raccoons they will eat your bait and get into your coolers at night.

Trough Creek State Park Lodge - Nice house, 4 bedrooms, not real cozy decorating;carpet throughout, except in kitchen; modern kitchen is big and well-equipped and good layout, although sound reverberates when talking. Beds not the greatest: 2 doubles, 2 sets bunks, 2 singles; if you want more comfort, take a padded mattress cover along; living room has two couches, table with four chairs and 2 cushioned chairs. If you want pics, email me at annelisefrench@hotmail.com

A great place to enjoy nature! - Jacobsburg Park is an awesome park right here in the Lehigh Valley. The hiking and mountain biking is great for the whole family, including the dog! Walking along or in Bushkill Creek is my favorite, the sound of the water is beautiful!

12/7/2008 Sinnemahoning State Park by Musiklady
Pristine Serenity - I used to live 3 miles from the Park and came there every evening to sit on the benches and watch the deer and black bears across the lake. I loved to fish for catfish and drive slowly through the park at dusk where I spotted baby bobcats, turkeys, white-tail deer and fawns and an occasional buck in velvet. The biggest thrill is watching the bald eagle swoop down and take a fish and carry it to its aerie. I miss it terribly and wish I had never sold my place in Lick Island Run.
12/6/2008 Parker Dam State Park by Teresa
Very clean - I have to say, this park has the cleanest bathroom facilities I have ever seen. The park all around is very nice!

Boyhood memories - Second submission due to email address typo. I grew up in Erie, and I am now living in Denver Colorado. But I still call Erie home. Just before asking my wife to marry me, I knew I had to bring her home to meet the family and visit the peninsula where I spent many summer days. I have great memories of family reunions, picnics, as a teen I’d, bring dates to “Eddie’s Hideaway” (actually a few spots along the peninsula). It was almost as if that piece of land would talk to me. Being a nature lover I realized that this awesome stretch of land and water did… sort or talk to me. The peninsula knew that dates of my youth were not the right ones. I remember sitting watching the water, sand, people, sunsets, and pondering the day that I’d be able to bring the true woman who’d steal my heart back here one day. All the times that I would sit and reflect on life and the peace of this bit of land and water, one woman of my dreams became true as she and I visited early in our relationship and then again with our son who experienced his very first joy of playing in waves as they crashed around is little legs. Paula (my wife) loves Erie and the peninsula as much as I do. I hope it is open and free to us for many more years and I hope our son will be able to bring his kids to that same beach where he first experience waves, beaches and fun in the waters of Lake Erie.
11/14/2008 Worlds End State Park by Julette
A park for all seasons - Every year my boyfriend and I try to get a cabin in the park to celebrate New Years the old fashioned way. Last year was the most beautiful time (we got a foot of snow) The trails are well marked and the scenery is breathtaking. Only one thing I would reccomend, Be careful while driving the one of the vista trails, we hit some black ice, slid sideways and almost slid off a cliff due to no railing. Other than that near death experience this park is one of my favorites to visit in the winter.
11/9/2008 Crooked Creek State Park by Judy
Just over the hill - I live just over the hill from Crooked Creek and enjoyed walking the trails. I enjoy seeing the wildlife as I pass through the park on my way to work. This site does nothing for promoting the park and the fact that it is developed around a flood control dam.
11/9/2008 Weiser State Forest by 10ptjoe
great hunting - plenty of space to lose the crowds and find you a nice buck good hunting
10/31/2008 Archbald Pothole State Park by twheid
An unseen gemstone. - This park is truly underutilized. It’s a great place to just watch the clouds go by, watch the wind or do some serious bird watching.

A wonderful place to enjoy nature. - It is our favorite place for walking.
10/14/2008 Blue Knob State Park by Gerry
Camp Grounds only - Have been to Blue Knob several times and cannot believe the lack of orderleness. I know it is more of a winter resort area because of the skiing, but most of the area is very unkept except for the beautiful campgrounds ! Parking and roadway areas are in very bad shape at the Condo area. The best area in the park, in my opinion is the campsite !!

- I think codorus State Park is the most beautiful place I have ever been to.
9/26/2008 Hyner Run State Park by Leb. County
One of the cleanest, well-kept parks. - I have been going to park for over 40 years. Swimming pool is great (sometimes cool water). Nice climbing wall. A nice setting for a great camping weekend. Nice to visit the town of Renova, especially during Fall Foliage Weekend.
favorite place in the world - The Allegheny National Forest is beautiful forest. It in many places seems to be untouched by mandkind and in many places you can go without seeing a person, just you and nature. Its a an amizing combination of tall timber, beautiful streams, wildlife, and a past time that many people have strayed away from. I think everyone should have the oppertunity to enjoy this beautiful gift from God.

9/6/2008 Shikellamy State Park by Debbie
Very lovely - My husband and I stopped there one day on our way to Geisinger in Danville and spent a couple of hours there. We thought it was beautiful - has a nice play area for children, a nice butterfly garden, a walkway around the park, a place for badmitton or volleyball, a marina. We very much enjoyed the park and will consider it for our family renunion.
9/2/2008 Raccoon Creek State Park by gila

Great Programs Too - I agree with Deer-Jerky. They also have great programming and shows there. Occasionally they have live hawks, owls and eagles there from local wildlife rescues. The shows are awesome.
8/30/2008 Keystone State Park by ed white
very clean, very quiet, just great - my favorite campground. people that work there make me feel welcome. thanks for having such a nice campground.
well kept and beautiful - Campsites are average size, but have better privacy than average. Bath house clean and well lit. Views beautiful. Normal night noise, but had drag races Saturday night in a nearby location sounded like across the lake. Weeknights no crowd. Beach and bathhouse very convenient on other side of lake, free.

8/19/2008 Hickory Run State Park by drofnas
Great place for scouts to camp - I am one of the leaders of scout troop that camped here in mid August. We had a great time. The boys loved it. We went whitewater rafting and on a five mile hike. I would recomend to anybody.
great family environment - beautiful land, the pool is the only thing that ruins the park mainly because of the horse playing a little rough with kids around. everything else is great.
8/5/2008 Tyler State Park by Nat
Loved the ride! - We had absolutely wonderful time past weekend riding horses at Tyler Park Stable. Our guide, Donna, was very knowledgeable and caring. She made sure that everybody knew what to do and enjoyed their ride. If someone (newbie’s) had a bit trouble with navigating their horse, she would be over right away with a help. We rode about 20 min over an hour (since couple of people were new to this and took extra time to get on going) but no one charged us extra. Trails were really nice and we enjoyed sight seeing though the park as well. My daughter rode a pony with us and she can’t stop talking how much fun she had. Highly recommend!
Beautiful Cabin Weekend - We often will rent a cbain or two for the weekend. The park is very clean and the cabins are excellent! We have always had a wonderful time each spring and fall when we come. We only live about 40 minutes away, but its nice to have a change of scenery and enjoy some outdoor cooking and boating for the weekend. The kids love it to! Give it a try.
8/1/2008 Hills Creek State Park by Bowers
The Best Place 2 Get Away - Everything is so wonderful there. Its a nice place to take your family and to get away. we go there every year, it only takes us an hour to get there we come from Montgomery Pa. We look forward to coming every summer!
7/30/2008 George W Childs State Park by Netsurfer
A jewel in the Delaware Water Gap - A gem of a park! A great way to spend a lazy summer day enjoying the falls, the water, and the cool soft trail along the creek.
7/28/2008 Marsh Creek State Park by Devin Sidell
Perfect for those weekend getaways! - Out of most of the state parks in the Delaware valley, this one seems to be the best in terms of seclusion, closeness and the availability of electric or non electric supported sites. Each site is a comfortable distance from the others and theres plenty of room to spread out. Lots of woods and great fishing. The only downside is the nearest place to buy food is a bit of a drive from the site but other than that its great!
7/27/2008 Bald Eagle State Forest by D3
Awesome - We stayed at the rustic sites for Memorial Day weekend. The host family was wonderful, the bath-houses clean, the site was impecable. Everything was exactly as I had hoped it would be!
7/25/2008 Locust Lake State Park by Deer-jerky
A Great Cheap Spot for a Great Get Away - An Excellant country setting. Good camping sites for tenters or for travel trailers. A Nice beach, and a very Nice Lake stocked with Trout. 6/21/2008 Fort Washington State Park by Buddo
A nice park - Depending on what you want, FT. Washington is nice. It has historical significance and can inspire the imagination. It has a wooden tower that gives a nice bird watching area and view of the surrounding area. It has picnicing, camping, playground, and bathroom facilites. It is also bordered by the Green Ribbon Trail which winds along the banks of the Wissahickon Gorge and is a good access point to the trail which winds for miles in either direction.
- nice and quiet. it is beautiful and always fun

Great trails with view of the water - There is a small beach and wonderful walking trails located here.
6/16/2008 Cowans Gap State Park by Myra I. Kidd
Very disappointed - Cowans Gap has been our favorite Park. I used the Gap when I was a child. I took you children there now my Grandchildren. BUT I am very disappointed that the Life Guards are not on duty anymore. We bring our Motorhome and grandchildren to stay for a week each year and many weekends. We do not let the kids out of sight but I am willing to pay more for the safety of all.

5/20/2008 Mount Pisgah State Park by davevickibennett@aol.com
trip to remember - I took my mom for a ride to Mt.Pisgah State Park last weekend. Neither one of us had been there for many years, and we thoroughly enjoyed seeing it once again. My mom and her family lived on the mountain a long time ago, and it was such a joy to have my 85 year mom reminence of days gone by on the mountain.

5/10/2008 Tyler State Park by djg
Do not ride the horses - My husband and I were very disappointed with our experience at Tyler Park Stables. Upon our arrival, the girls who work there were using foul language and seemed disgruntled. We tried to make the best of it as we left for our trail ride, but our guide had a lot of trouble with her horse. She said she had never riden that horse before; the horse gave her a lot of trouble. At one point, the horse walked off the trail into the brush and the guide fell off! We waited for her to get back on and spent a good while being patient as she tried to get the horse to move. When we returned to the stable, the older woman there was angry that we had been out for over an hour, and told us we had to pay more money!! She was extremely rude. We will not return there.
Beautiful Views - We enjoyed Bald Eagle State Park. It has something for everyone. Beautiful views, fishing, hiking. We stayed in a cabin. The cabins are simple and very clean. The only downside is the location of the cabins. They are right at the beginning of the loop, so there can be heavy traffic-Other campers coming and going in their cars. You can see the main road (RT 150) from the cabins, too. We really enjoyed our visit and would stay again.

Nicely laid out campsites along a gorgeous creek. Great showers and restrooms. My favorite campground in the area. In the heart of one of the most beautiful areas of the state. Wonderful.
