4/17/2012 12:35:36 AM Grassy Lake State Wildlife Management Area by S.B.Luneau
Excellent job of wildlife managment - I am very impressed with the LDWF turning around the Grassy Lake WMA. With limited funds/resources our state has drastically improved all aspects of this. We have had a family camp for 30 years in this area and am very proud to be able to continue the traditions and heirtage of hunting, fishing, and camping to my kids. Thank you again and please continue the good work (rebuild the rail car bridge over Nat. Bayou).

Reminds me of WDW - The Arboretum was filled with sounds of nature with lots of educational information--very well decorated--reminded me of a WDW display. The trails were family friendly with wide, mulch covered pathways-especially for those with skin allergies.
paradise - Lake Fausse Pointe is the closest thing to heaven. Why would anyone want to travel out of state when places such as this exist. I feel so safe when I am there. Thanks to all the wonderful men and women who work there. They make it a pleasure to go. The fishing is wonderful.

Family Fun - Great place for a family outing. Bring the bikes nice and easy bike trail and lots of pavement, also a camera plenty of deer to be seen up close. Nice restrooms and showers up to date.

AWESOME VISIT - We enjoyed our visit such a beautiful park. Cabins were clean and well maintained. The conference building was very nice for our Business Leadership Retreat!
Amazing, except for partiers - We stayed at campsite 70-something for two weeks in mid-October 2011. Our primary goal was breaking in our new camper and kayaking. For these two purposes, Chicot is AMAZING!! The kayaking was absolute heaven. Our campsite was right near a pavilion on the water, a perfet spot to launch the yaks. The park is blissfully quiet during the week. The only problem we had was people who brought their satellite dish and loud speaker system to watch a football game. They were loud and obnoxious, but luckily the park ranger was very diplomatic and they soon quietened down. Seriously, why go out in the tranquil, quiet woods where everybody is trying to relax and bring the stadium with you? Other than that, our stay was wonderful. Thanks to the park ranger for handling it. Oh, and the facilities were super clean and well maintained. They also had internet in the park for my kids to do their schooling during the week. If you canoe/kayak, Chicot is a wonderland. Hiking trails are great too. Wildlife was everywhere!

Great educational place to visit - I & my 12 yrold son were there in April 2010. We tagged along with a school tour group. The tour leaders were so friendly and informed that we learned bunches of stuff. The rangers/docents were helpful to show us other places in the area to visit including a home that might have been haunted. In the big house there is a rocking chair that sometimes will rock with no one or breeze to push it. It is a well maintained, well staffed park.

Rude rangers - Beware the rangers at this park need to go to school for people skills most of all R Monk. His rudest and ugly manners almost mess our Thanksgiving week up. He needs to think this is not a prison but a fun time for people that pays his salary. We love the park have been coming for 40yrs or more. This week was a nightmare. Please fix this problem. God Bless
- Great fun there; beautiful sunrise, good crabbing; fun watching swamp rabbit eat grass with in 10 ft. of lots of folks crabbing!

horse trail riding - nice park. has electricity & water. trail can be extended to 12 miles if u ride the field ride
9/26/2011 Fontainebleau State Park by Erik Willie
Diversity of Activities - Years ago I was scared away from this park because of how filthy and run down it was. However, last year I went back and discovered that there have been some MAJOR changes!! The park is a great place for a family to get away for a week or just a day. The beach offers hours of entertainment for those of all ages. There are endless places to hike or ride bikes. The black top bike trail is a plus as well. The travel trailer spots are well suited for even the largest of rvs. The only down side is there isnt much in the way of fishing compared to other parks. It is on the lake so consequentley there is no boat launch. But you can just drive down the road a couple of miles and launch in the river. I would reccomend this park to anyone.
Best place to crab, fish and shrimp - Love going there to crab, shrimp and fish. Love to watch the alligators and other wildlife. Enjoy the water and the people that I meet there.
9/21/2011 North Toledo Bend State Park by Rick Tallent
Relaxing, Private Getaway - The cabins so impressed me I want to buy some land and build one just like them!!!
Bacteria levels!! - We came to the park hoping to let our children swim at the beach. When we walked down to the beach/ lake front and there was an bacteria advisery that said it was not suitable for swimming. When I called to ask about swimming I wish they would have told us that the beach was not suitable for such. There were several families there letting there children swim in the high bacteria leval water! How could u not heed the warning!!? There is a reason that the department of health and hospitals put these warnings up!! Also the splash park was not operational. Atleast have clean water if the beach is under advisery! Other than that it was a great park, very clean.
clean up your mess - people who litter our parks need to be ban for a year and a few trash cans at the boat landings would really help out spring bayou

A place we love to go back to. - We live in ok and have been to Sam Houston State Park many times. We fell in love with it and plan to return many more times. It is a beautiful place and we love the people there.
8/20/2011 Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site by Judith, New Mexico
A wonderful place to visit. - I had the tour completely to myself since I arrived early in the morning in Feb. Very leisurely and informative. I tend to prefer the tours of the raised Creole style houses like this one. Wonderful walk back to the parking lot. Staff very friendful and helpful, as are most people in Louisiana.
great vaca spot - my family and i stayed there during school spring break this year. it was wonderful. Beautiful beach. Very nice cabins. It is a definate vaca spot again. I have been telling people where we live. That this is a must place to go.
7/7/2011 Hodges Gardens State Park by Elizabeth
- The gardens are beautiful just as I remembered seeing them as a young person. However upon visiting today after 15 years have past since my last visit I learned that Flag Island is no longer accessible. A shame that it is in poor condition and should be fixed to view again as it represents the fifty states of our country. I have many wonderful memories of Flag Island and would love to show my children how it once was and could be again. Also I am disappointed in how the green houses have been left to ruin. All those years of growing trees and cacti and plants lost as all growth has been allowed to die. Surely water could have been made availiable to water them even though they could not be viewed.(I do understand that money is tight for everyone.) Other than that the scenic views and main gardens were lovely. And the staff were very nice. I will visit again.
7/3/2011 Jimmie Davis State Park by Flipdaddy!
The Beach - Beach area is clean, tables are located in good spots, complete with little grills, bathrooms are cleaned with bleach,so they are very clean, ranger presence is great, therefore the area is safe, overall a killer place to bring the family and have a great time!

love this park - we rented a cabin / very relaxing very quiet they make sure no troulbe in the park very friendly staff we went for our anniversay last year and we are booking again this year. the cabins were nice and roomy .
One of our favorites - We love this park as a quick get away because we live near by. It is always clean. The rest rooms are clean but I do wish they had doors on the shower stall instead of just shower curtains!
5/11/2011 Fairview Riverside State Park by Albany Table And Chair Rentals
Wonderful place to camp - the park rangers were very helpful with all questions . the restrooms and showers were very clean. caught lots of pan fish. the lots were very clean. could have a little more lighting in the back lots.as for the peacocks , no bother to me . loved hearing them.make sure to bring lots of ice , there is no ice to buy there. I will be back.

3/29/2011 Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site by Dave H, St. Charles, IL
Interesting for all ages - I found the original historic farming implements a valuable collection of unique artifacts and tools. Kids will like the hands on display of tools and toys in the video room and may enjoy dressing the part with clothes provided. The park is very well maintained and the staff are knowledgable, interesting and pleasurable to travel through history with. Thanks for sharing your treasures.

Great fishing - We caught 53 bass in a day and a half the key is to find where shad are schoolin and throw a chartruse and white spinnerbait wit a gold willow leaf and on the shallow ends throw a blue silver and orge rogue and jerk it the fish slam it
2/10/2011 Fairview Riverside State Park by Fairview State Prison
Not what it use to be - This use to be our favorite campground until they had a change of staff. It feels like a prison atmosphere having a spot light shining on campers while he makes his rounds like a prison guard. Waking campers up if 1 tire is touching the grass is alittle crazy. Wait until morning to ask someone to move. So many unhappy campers.
1/18/2011 Lake Bruin State Park by vernon johnson

Favorite Family Vacation - Our family rented two cabins during the Christmas holidays. The cabins were great although if they had a toaster, they would be better. We enjoyed the walking trails, the wildlife, the beauty of the old moss covered trees. Took lots of pictures. This is a great place for a family reunion.

- THE WILDLIFE AND FISHERIES WATCH EVERY MOVE YOU MAKE ON THE RIVER AND THEY ARE SNEAKY ABOUT IT AND RUDE. THE COPS LOOK FOR ANY LITTLE REASON TO GIVE U A TICKET WATCH YOUR BACK, THE CAMPGROUND HOWEVER IS BEAUTIFUL AND VERY NICE
One of our favorite spots. - We (me, my boyfriend and five dogs, now) have been tent camping at Lake Claiborne for years. Even when we have had to evacuate 3 times from New Orleans/Metairie, we have turned it into a camping trip. We love the lake, the woods and all the deer. Next time, we are going to try for spring/summer, we usually go in November.
10/25/2010 Fontainebleau State Park by Joseph & April
beautiful - We had a last minute camping trip this past weekend for my sons soccer tournament and were told about fountainebleau so we decided to go check it out. It was so nice and peaceful just to be out there in a tent the kids loved it and so did me and my wife. theres so much to do and see. If your into history and stories go to the visitor center and talk to Grey Hawk he is amazing and eager to help. The beach at sun set is amazing. and after sun down the deer come out everywhere its beautiful. We will definitely be back on a regular basis. We highly recommend this place anytime of the year.

Great Get Away - This is truly a relaxing place especially if you like peace and quiet and enjoy nature. Also if you like golf it is very close to two golf courses. My wife have been twice in the past month and plan to go back. I highly recomend if you just want to relax.
10/4/2010 Lake Bistineau State Park by nlagirl
Love the park but need trail maps - I love to go to this park, but they need to get maps of the equestrian trails to give to the guests. They use to have one but they gave the original away and have not replaced it.
10/4/2010 Fontainebleau State Park by ggmom
Misses the chance for greatness. - Brought my telescope with me thinking of dark skies. If the lights were shielded this place would be great, skys clear, too bright. On the week-ends, when the place is full of kids and parties they need to enforce the 10:00pm quiet time, or make it 11:00 pm. Very, very loud until 1:00 am.

Affordable Family Fun! - We just got back from a two night stay in a lodge. We had 8 adults and 3 children and were all very comfortable in the lodge! The screened in porch was wonderful, and there was plenty of room for everyone. The kids got to experience all the fun of the outdoors with the comforts of home. My husband even caught a bass off the pier! We cant wait to go back!
9/3/2010 Fairview Riverside State Park by Wayne & Shelly
Excellent Place To Camp - This is one of our favorite places to camp. We go there often since it only takes us about an hour to get there. The place is well managed and kept up. We are always looking forward to our next trip.

EXCELLENT - My family and friends went for the weekend my wife and friends daughter it was there birthday weekend for them and we had a great time beside the rain other than that the park was great it was a very long time since Iwas there as a kid . Everyone that works at the park was great very nice and helpful the Host was great and they remind me of my grand parents. It was a very enjoyable weekend , Can wait to go back.Nothing wrong with this State park on a scale 0 to 10 its a 100
Great park! - Love this park!!
Wonderful Tour - We went through the park one day last week on the hottest day of the yr. Everyone so nice and excellent guides. So very informative and educational and enjoyable.
8/5/2010 Poverty Point Reservoir State Park by Domenic, Pa.
Beautiful Cabins - We stayed at the park after my neices wedding. Everyone was very impressed at the find my sister and brother in law found in your park, and were very pleased with everything. The cabins were beautiful.
had an OK Experience! - We went the weekend of the July 30th, we went to the pool and got kicked out bc of a radio that wasnt even loud. the Park Ranger was not nice and very RUDE and was looking for a reason to kick us out. There is NO sign that says no MUSIC allowed and we were out there to have a good time.i would understand if we were being loud but we were just hanging out.the music was on country and was very low and even the life guard said it was ok to have it, but on low. Other than that our time was great! i just wish they had more to do!!! if your looking to have a good time i would recommend Cajun Palms for a fun environment this place was too quiet and not many things to do and was way to big for the little things they had.
8/1/2010 Fontainebleau State Park by Randy
Beautiful location - We stayed here on our way to Texas, and again a month later on our way back to Florida. Great campground, new bathrooms, and fantastic for biking or hiking. Sunsets on the lake will take your breath away.

Sure to return! - Went with my family and another couple, we brought 3 kids with us, and every single one of us had a blast! The staff was friendly, the facilities were well maintained and our neighboring campers were very respectful of the rules and showed great southern hospitality! The raccoons are smart little devils though, so watch out!

Excellent State Park - My wife & I spent 3 days at Lake Claiborne State Park and were absolutely thrilled with its cleanliness and layout over the lake. We have already planned a return visit.

Amazing! - We went to the park a few weeks ago and went to the group camp. It was over 100 of us girls, and we had a blast.
7/22/2010 Jimmie Davis State Park by youthworkerlynn
great place for youth groups - we recently took a small group of young people from our church and stayed in one of the lodges. Everything about the lodge was great for this kind of activity. There was plenty of rooms and beds and the great room area was perfect for large group activities.I would recommend the lodge or lodges for larger groups for any youth group .

7/16/2010 Chicot State Park by Zach J.
The Fishing - Ok, the fishing is bad to us because every time we go all we catch is little fish ive tried the south landing the north landing and the bridge. Other then that the place is all so pretty and awsome. Also when i was fishing i did accedentaly catch a baby aligator it was fun catching it. I will keep trying until i have a good day and catch some big fish.
7/14/2010 Poverty Point Reservoir State Park by Henderson Family
We enjoyed it!!! - We loved this State Park. We have no complaints whatsoever. We will for sure be back. On the 4th of July the house directly across put on a firework show that was out of this world. It was the best my family had ever seen and lasted approx. 45min. 2 thumbs up Poverty Point!!! also, we had to make an er visit bc my son fell and the local hospital was great.
Want bigger fish? - people need to stop keeping all the little bass and let them grow. they wonder why they do not get big
6/28/2010 Jimmie Davis State Park by Weston Rez
Dirty Beaches - Very sad to see the park in this state. The beaches are filthy. Despite the garbage barrels, people leave their trash on the beach - cola bottles, band aids, Styrofoam food containers and foil. The last time my husband and I took our kids, there was a dirty diaper floating in the water. I will pick up trash to get it out of my kids way, but I draw the line at a dirty diaper. Clean it up, people. Such a lovely area, why trash it out like that?
6/23/2010 Fairview Riverside State Park by Steven
A wonderful place - We stayed here last year about November time. We loved it. It is quiet and shaded well. It is close to several areas for tourist. We look forward to returning every year.
Went There For Family Reunion - The cabins are big. Very Pretty on the inside. The housekeeping was not great but they leave you cleaning supplies. The only complaint during our four day stay their was no where to swim. The swimming area was full with the day comers and their was no where to park.
6/1/2010 Fairview Riverside State Park by La. girl loves trees.
Family oriented and clean - We have gone there for the last few years. I absolutely love it. We cannot wait until the next time we get to go back. It is a clean, and easy to love park.
6/1/2010 Chicot State Park by Pam
Loved Chicot!! - We are beginner Campers, this was our 4th camping trip and voted as a top spot for our family. Loved all the trees, no golf carts, everyone rides their bike or walks. The sceanery is breath taking. Always pick up your trash at night the racoons will have a fiesta if left out. The Bath Houses could use a good cleaning, other than that we will continue to camp at Chicot!
5/24/2010 Fairview Riverside State Park by Mike, Cyndi, Ricky and Judy
Favorite park - This is one our favorite parks and we wish they had more water front sites and a place to swim. We also enjoy going to the boat launch at the lake and crab and fish.
5/24/2010 Chicot State Park by hali
Worst experience ever - I just returned form a 5 day stay and i must say it was the most horrible experience I have ever had on a camping trip. To start when we reserved our lodge we were told it would sleep 14 of us and it would be on the water with a warf to fish off of out the back door. We had 14 ladies and only 12 places to sleep. We went to the office and they said there was nothing they could do. A couple hours of later they decided to bring us two mattresses to put on the floor. Then later that night the worst part started. The mice in the lodge were everywhere. Then to make matters worse we walk into the kitchen to find food roaches all over the cabinet and in the bathroom. And last thing we call the front office and speak to a girl who tried to tell us there wasn't any mice. I was so dissapointed with my stay at Chicot Park! The workers are very rude and the lodge was disgusting!!
5/22/2010 Chicot State Park by Darla from St Paul, MN
Our Home Away from Home - We have been coming from MN to Chicot for the past 6+ yrs. We love the cabins and park. Our family from Ville Platte loves to come visit us for the Christmas Holidays. Only thing missing for a 5 star rating is laundry facilities. Staff is great. Look forward to coming again this year.

childhood memories - i grew up in grand prairie la, and me and my oldest brother used to fish there alot mostly at the north dock and thats where i caught what i thought was the biggest catfish ever it was about 15 lbs and i was using a snoopy pole with a perch hook i was on the top of the world im 26 now and i still enjoy going there i hope one day to camp there again but this time with my kids so they can learn what i learned there i even learned how to swim in the lake its a great place
5/21/2010 Chicot State Park by Jerry D.
A great central point for birders. - My wife and I spent 2 days in your campground in mid-April. I had identified Chicot SP months prior as a great center point for birding in central LA. I was not disappointed and will probably go back again in a year or so. My only complaint was we arrived on the weekend of the cajun festival and we had to leave a day early as all the campsites were reserved ahead of time. I will not make that mistake again. I must say that even though the place was full, there were no drunks or loud music. A great family campground!
5/20/2010 Lake Claiborne State Park by The Cages!

5/2/2010 Chicot State Park by Hfontenot
Great Canoe Trail - I have been hiking in Chicot for quite a few years now and have thoroughly enjoyed every trip. Now I can say that the canoe trail through the lake is every bit as good as the hiking trails. The lake is beautiful, and the remote campsites along the canoe trail are awesome. Even on a very windy day, I was able to paddle solo in my canoe with relative ease. This is due to the fact that the trail winds through thick coves that are protected from the wind. All in all, a great place to canoe. Oh, and by the way, it cost me One dollar to gain entrance to the park! A great place!!!

4/25/2010 Tickfaw State Park by The Gilberts
First time visit - We were looking for hiking trails...and when we saw all the choices available decided to try Tickfaw. We were disappointed that the river trail (3 miles) was closed. The main reason why we made the trip from LaPlace. Otherwise, a good park to visit. Wish they would have had a sign before we walked down the board walk to come across a sign that said river walk closed.

Great staff and Awesome pak - I have been going to Chicot State Park for almost 20 years and have never left without a story to tell. I dropped my key in the lake and was stranded till my mother could bring me an extra from about 2 hours away. The rangers gave us a great place to stay and were extremely helpful.Thank you guys for your hard work.

One of our favorite parks - My husband, sister, nephew and I camped for 5 days and hade a great time we tent camp and our camp sites were wooded and looked over the lake, we could walk down to the pier to fish from our camp site. We will camp here again soon. The bathrooms are really clean modern and heated on cold days. We Loved this park. I would recommend this park for families and fishermen. They have several trails for bird watchers and deer are everywhere.

2/19/2010 Poverty Point Reservoir State Park by Julia Pearce, Walker, LA
Great Place To Relax - Spent a couple of nights here recently with a friend and it is soooo relaxing to get away to a beautiful place like this. The cabin was very clean and looked new. It was cold and raining the whole time we were there, but was still an enjoyable stay. We have already booked again, for 3 nights, at the end of March. Can hardly wait!

Great Vacation spot - I have visited this park and stayed in the cabins every year for 9 years running. Every October the family gathers here for a week of fishing and relaxation. Love it.

A Great Getaway - My parents came to Chicot for their anniversary in Oct, 09. They raved about it for weeks after they returned. We decided that we would all come back for this trip. Feb, 10. We love it. Its better than I imagined. Feels just like we are in the mountains. Great job!

A wonderful place to enjoy being outside - We love all that Hodges Gardens have to offer. We camp, fish, walk the trails, and we absolutely love the guided tours. The staff are super friendly and the park is always clean. Our time there is relaxing, but we always find things to do to get a great workout!

Our Family Vacation Spot - We have been staying in the cabins and lodges for the last 3 years and plan on going again this year! We love to fish right off the back porch of the cabin and enjoy not having to drive very far for a wonderful vacation! We only live about 25 miles from Delhi!
1/8/2010 Lake D'Arbonne State Park by edjd
Refreshing and Relaxing - I have been there four times staying in one of the cabins - I have no complaints, I really enjoy the peacefulness of the enivornment especially when walking the trails. Cabins are clean and really nice. Excellent for family with children or just couples.
Beautiful Serenity - Our first time to Poverty Point was in September of 2009. It was so beautiful and very relaxing. The cabins were amazing we plan to go this month for my birthday.
12/12/2009 Chicot State Park by bts
Absolutely the best ever! - No other state park compares to the scenery or tranquil setting that Chicot has to offer. You will not regret staying here in the deluxe cabins. In fact, after our first stay, we have made it a family tradition to come back each year about the same time.

11/23/2009 Jimmie Davis State Park by jlafosse
One of our favorite parks. - The park grounds and bath houses are exceptional clean and the park staff are always eager to help and take a lot of pride in their park. Great family park and the trees are beautiful during late fall of the year. A must visit park.
11/2/2009 Fairview Riverside State Park by The Brelands
- My family and I have spent many weekends at the campground. I love the scenery but I think it is time to update the bathroom facilities in the front. When it rains the commodes back up and it is terrible. I have seen many people make that journey to the back just to take a shower.
10/28/2009 Chicot State Park by Sonja & Larry Anderson
A Great Honeymoon Gate Away - My husband and I had the pleasure of spending October 25,26 & 27th. We had the best time of our life. I can tell you after being married almost 30 years this is a weekend that we will never forget. We are making arrangements to come back for another weekend with the children and grandchildren.
10/27/2009 Fairview Riverside State Park by Robin Wells
- I agree with some of the other post regarding the trees that need to be cut back! My dad was leaving the park from the back, almost tore his awning off on a big oak tree. And we will not go to the park without a reservation on sites we KNOW our campers will fit into...because of the pine trees being just too cramped and close to the sites. Other than that we love it and yes, the eating places in Madisonville are wonderful!
10/26/2009 Lake Bruin State Park by MPowers
One of our favorite parks - This campground is wonderful. Staff is great. The ranger is the best. We stay here every year for Easter week. My whole family loves it there.

To Be Young Again - I re-visited the park about 4 months ago, me and my youngest daughter Karlie. I showed her where we use to camp with my family and relatives as I was growing up. The sights, the sounds, the smell of the great outdoors. I began to cry as I remember all of this and dad was alive then. He made simple camping trips feel like and great expidition. If I could go to sleep and wake up in those days at Chicot. I have a cabin rented on the water for me to bring my daughters and grandson in a couple of months. I want them to see how life was wonderful.Thanking God for his glorious creation.......
Outstanding staff. - Thank you, for the tour, Everyone was so friendly and helpful in answering all of my questions. What a great place.
Best childhood memories! - I am now 26. When I was a little girl, my parents had a pop-up camper. We traveled all over the country with this camper, but we made sure to make a visit to Chicot State Park every year! I remember being the most excited when we would come here! Some of my best childhood memories were made here, and I will cherish them forever! I visited the park again 2 years ago just to see what it was like. It was just as beautiful and fun as I always remember! Great family getaway!!!
9/28/2009 Fontainebleau State Park by R Williams
Beautiful Park - The camp ground was a nice get away for my wife and me. We live within an hour of Fontainebleau but took our camper and stayed for the weekend. We fished, and caught a few blue crabs Fontainebleau was once the site of a sugar mill with some of the structure still standing with a small museum. Looking at the sites of days gone by was a treat. The gentlemen in the museum were very nice. One was making authentic arrow heads and another was making some type of wooden paddle using an old tool. The grounds have great old oak trees with plenty of room for all types of activities. Our whole experience was a great one and we will return again.

My Favorite getaway spot! - I only live 20 miles from Poverty Point and its my favorite place to go to. You cant beat the serenity of the cabins over the water. I feel blessed to live so close to such a beautiful place. Now My whole family loves to spend time there either for the night or the week. We even have our christmas there. Better book early though!!
9/14/2009 Cypremort Point State Park by dlancon
Relaxing Annual Retreat - My husband and I like Cypermont Point immensely. The sunrises and sunsets are to die for. The cabins are the best with even an elevator for the handicapped. You can not help but be totally relaxed and at peace while there. We look forward to it each year and is our favorite state park site. We have stayed in many but this is our favorite. Thanks! Donna Lancon
Good hunting! - Iv started hunting red river at the age of 10 years old and am now 31. I seen about all you can think of from big hogs and big bucks to 7 flash lights after mine in the morning to old men fighting over hunting space. I love red river but it is a bit of a rowdy place. Well, I will be starting back this year and I will be driving my old truck and hunting with guns I dont have to keep. I wish all good luck. The deer are their....just need to respect others and remember that these woods are for all of us!
9/4/2009 Lake D'Arbonne State Park by A T
A wonderfu get away - We were there in April, for a family reunion. The lodge was more then what we expected, plenty of room, and the area was just great. The only slight problem, was one of the Bunk Beds mattress support had been trimmed too much, and the mattress fell. That person ended up sleeping on the mattress on the floor. Other then that I highly recommend the park. As a matter of fact we are planning another get together sometime in Oct. or Nov. The staff was very nice, and the location is super.

Favorite place we have ever stayed in - The workers were very nice and helpful. The place was really clean and had that homey feeling. Water was rough when we got there but are family had a wonderful time fishing. We will be staying again in the future.
A great getaway - The view of the lake is so beautiful. The cabins are clean and spacious. The staff is very professional. This is a great place to bring your family for a quite weekend.

Clean and Safe - Stayed here during the 4th of July. The Ranger was always around and made sure the park was family friendly. It was my first time there but it will not be my last.
Hikers and nature lovers dream - Sicily Island Hills WMA offers unusually steep terrain, scenic views and waterfalls. A most unique area in a state best known for bayous, bass and bengals.Learn more about the area at a non-commercial website, www.sicilyislandhills.wordpress.com
Ok for the price but be aware - Dont expect a nice greeting from chech-in or any problems
Nice clean beach. . - Nice clean beach , expect they need more trees near the beach for shade. The old beach house should be repaired because it is an old Landmark for the old and the young.
6/23/2009 Fontainebleau State Park by Courtney
Where the Wild Things Are - We found this park through www.reserveamerica.com. We choose it for the beautiful pictures of the place we saw and the fact it was far enough away yet close enough. With our clumsy kids I was thrilled to see a hospital on the other side of the road from the entrance of the park. While we were driving around their very confusing campground looking for our site we found 2 deer. It was amazing, only being there about 10min and already we were seeing wildlife. The rangers and other personnel were very nice and very helpful the time that we were there. The park was also very close to Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. 3.00 and a beautiful 20-30 min drive and your in New Orleans. That night when we returned from N.O. we discovered someone had ransacked our campground. Have no fear this someone was no one of the human variety. Raccoons had found the cook box and dug through it, stealing graham crackers and raisins. But they were well mannered raccoons, they wiped their lil paws on the roll of toilet paper we keep for just in cases and made sure to leave us some graham crackers and raisins. The next morning was not let down either. We were visited by many different types of birds drinking from our dripping faucet. As we broke down camp and rode around we saw many rabbits along the state park. We are in love with this park. It is so well kept. The thing that we will be coming back for and hopefully by the end of the summer is their cabins. I hope they are as beautiful and as well kept as the rest of the camp.

Peaceful Union Parish - As a hometown resident of Union parish, it is so nice to rent these cabins and enjoy something we once knew. The scenery is beautiful and it is such a family oriented place. The cabins are spacious and due to that fact we have made a annual Birthday party celebration for our daughter each year. This accomodates our entire family that is spread across Union parish.
6/17/2009 Fontainebleau State Park by Voss Family
Cabins are fantastic! - We rented Cabin #2 and were really impressed. It was a wonderful, memorable time.
very nice park - cheap to get in ,very beautiful scenery, and a nice beach for louisiana standards
Bodcau makes me proud(76yr old Native) - It would be top rated if weather couldbe trusted. Firing range (shooterscovered, targets outdoor) makes it one of the best facilities and clearly the best managed free facility I have seen. Open Fri,Sat, Sun when possible.
5/11/2009 Chicot State Park by Keith
Fishing Pier - I found the park to be really nice. It would really be nice if the park would construct fishing piers in strategic areas alone the shore. There are people who would love to fish who are just afraid of boats if not just en-experienced on how to operate a boat.
Beautiful park - We recently enjoyed a stay in one of the deluxe cabins, which was clean, nicely furnished and comfortable. The staff members were friendly and helpful, especially Ashley, who went out of her way to help make our visit pleasant. The only disappointment was the vegetation problem. I hope the state is able to improve the situation soon.

Wish I had more time - This park was amazing, absolutely beautiful. My family and I spend last weekend there and we wish we would have had more time there. The staff was awesome, our site was awesome, the facilities where so clean. We walked the nature trail and my family really enjoyed it. The squirls came and enjoyed some hot peanuts with us then helped themselves when we walked inside. It was too cute. I do however have one warning, bring bug spray, bug bite relief, and or some Benadryl, we did spray ourselves throughout the day however there where these horrible nats that where biting. These nats where around campsite only not on the trail. We could not enjoy sitting around the camper for too long without having to get up and go in. We are still itching 3 days later.
4/24/2009 Fairview Riverside State Park by TIGER64
NOT COMPLAINING JUST EXPLAINING - THE NEIGHBORS PEACOCKS NEED TO BE ON A GRILL. JUST KIDDN. BUT THEY DO AGGRAVATE WITH THEIR HOLLERING. FRONT BATH HOUSE NEEDS UPDATING. OLD GLASS WINDOWS LET IN ALL THE BUGS. SITES NEED UPDATING FOR ALL THE FANCY NEW CAMPERS WITH SLIDE OUTS. OTHER THAN THAT, NICE FAMILY CAMPING.
This park is beautyfull BUT - WE really enjoy our stay in chicot state park, we were there the 21-22-23 april during the cajun festival but during those 3 days the comfort station was never properly clean, the showers rooms and the toilets was really durty and it,s a shame on this nice park so please do some thing about it. Thank you
- i came to visit in feburary and iwas very impressed the was a gentalman show us around help us see the owl that you had and gave us alot of info and history.

Excelent spot for a vacation - This is a beautiful and relaxing environment for family to come and have fun. The rooms are amazing. Mother Nature at her Best - We have ejoyed Sam Houston Park during Nov., Dec. 08, Jan., and Feb. 09. The Park Rangers and staff are always friendly and willing to help. Walking trails are excellent and great to walk our pet Lacie. The bathrooms are heated or ac. and could not be any cleaner! Great playgrounds and each campsite has its own firepit to enjoy on a cold night. The security is very comforting. Great for familys!
- Sites were clean. Water and electric. Small playground. Some sites were concrete pads and others were being constructed. The bayou and spillway were close by though. Watch small ones closely so as not to fall in the water. Not bad. Close to Haughton and Bossier City
1/27/2009 Bayou Segnette State Park by fishfool
great set up, free washers & dryer - this is one of the best state parks, level sites, three comfort stations, wish they had sewage, but everything else is right there, stores, gas station, restaurants, just outside the park, open sites so we could use our dish TV. Love the free washing and drying. Will be back the the grandkids. Also, a wave pool and swimming pool, did not use. (winter)free WiFi
As natural as it gets. - The best part about Kisatchie - the park is in the rawest natural form - yet access is attainable for hiking, riding, etc. Wonderful any time of year.
a hunting adventure -
Great Weekend Escape...close by - We stayed the weekend before Thanksgiving 2008. The facilities were fantastic. The first time I was comfortable using the public showers. The grounds were also beautiful. The kids loved fishing from the gazebo and my husband and I loved the boardwalk trails. Definetly will stay again.
1/12/2009 Poverty Point Reservoir State Park by Gayle Morgan
The best family vacation spot - This will be our 5th year to stay at the lodges and cabins. Our family normally rents 3 to 4 of them at a time. The staff is always very helpful and the lodges/cabins are awesome. Our whole family looks forward to it every year!
helpful - My husband became ill while staying in the park. he had to be hospitlized. the park staff was very helpful in re-locating me. the campground host helped me move my rig. we did fine, but almost did not get into site 31 because of a tree. It would not hurt to remove 1 tree to enable a person to park more easily, but thanks to the help of the host and staff we made it
A REAL TREAT - My husbsnd, daughter and I visted the park and it was a rewarding experience. Our guide Miss Savoy was very informative and made the experience very enjoyable. She is an asset to the park.I really think a small gift shop would be nice. The entire experience was great and I would advise this tour to my friends. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Pure Serenity and Awe - The first week of December my cousin surprised me for my birthday by selecting a cabin at Chicot. Both of us were amazed BEFORE we even opened the main door. The cabin was beautiful, spacious, clean and unbelievably furnished with everything we needed. The sunrise and sunsets were gorgeous and the sight of so many beautiful ducks at one time and place was amazing. Being out over the water was such a thrill for me as I felt I was drifting along in a boat. A much needed peaceful rest is just what I needed and what I received. We plan to visit again as soon as we can.
Fun for all ages best over age 5 - We saw 5 gators, 3 turtles and a lot of visitors that shares in what they were finding. Just wish they had a water fountain.
watch for racoons! - We had the best time. I really enjoyed our campsight. However, the little racoons did come and steal our food the first night. We had a blast trying to figure out how to hide our food so they wouldnt get to it. On the last night we finally out smarted them. WE WON!

Peace,Tranquility & Beauty for the Soul - We enjoyed gently floating in a canoe amongst the cypress & tupelo trees watching the gators & turtles surface & dive and the herons skimming low over the water. My soul felt renewed by the serene environment. The reflections are just beautiful and at night the still water even reflected the stars lending the lake an exceptional depth. The cabins over the lake were beautifully designed & furnished. We were glad to see tax money going to good use for a change! Enjoy & treasure them everyone.
lifetime user of park - very nice park family oriented but the trees is what downgrades the park trees to be trimmed out so you could at least use your awning and backing up purposes

Now My Favorite Louisiana State Park - My husband and I reserved a cabin 8/22-8/24 and when we opened the cabin door, I was very shocked at how beautiful and nice the cabin was. We were use to packing a tv but we did not need it because there was a big plasma tv on the wall. I really felt like I was in at resort up north somewhere. The decor is very upscale and up to date, not an old time cabin feeling. I really hope that everyone take care of these beautiful cabins and make sure that you or your children do not distroy them. If you can get a reservation, I really advise everyone to go see for yourself. You will not regret the stay.

A Walk Back in Time - Recently my wife discovered that she is a descendant of the Olivier family, so while passing through Louisiana on vacation we stopped by the Longfellow-Evangeline State Park. Wow! It was one of the most relaxing, educational and enjoyable events of our vacation. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the park and the customs of that by gone era. We highly recommend a visit to the Longfellow-Evangeline State Park.

Great now...getting better - Katrina clobbered this area, but it is well on its way back. Level blacktop pull-throughs and back-ins. NOTE: Not all RV sites have electric and water. WiFi is great with at least 6 routers. Bathhouse and laundry were new and spotless.

we had a great time - we stayed in a cabin for 4 days and loved every minute of it. it was a great little getaway for me and my family
- The park will be better as the trees mature and the park is more shaded. The downside to the park is that you cannot see the water from the campsites. There is also no swimming from the campground. The young children love the water feature in the park.

Best beach and natural area in Louisiana - I am a native to Louisiana, but I have been living in Missouri for 17 years. Recently, I came back home to Crowley and brought my girlfriend to Avery Island to see the Tabasco factory and Jungle Gardens. She had never been to Louisiana and I thought maybe she needed to see the Gulf of Mexico. I was pleasantly surprised how nice Cypremont Point State Park was. We spent some time walking along the beach and just enjoying the scenery and the nice breeze.

Great camping sites, clean and pretty -
Nice Cabins - The new cabins are great and really really nice. Other than the ranger bugging us every 20min( very annoying) we had a good time. I would recommend it to anyone

the remodeling is beautiful.... - the beach walk way, gazebo, and the cabins are remarkable improvements to this area...question though what are the plans around the gated circle behind the old pool house...a volleyball area or picnic area would be nice...

Trees Are a Problem - This is my favorite place to be, my kids love it, but it is a SOB to park, because of all the trees
Nice, clean, family park -
Good location. - We left for an hour to go to the grocery store and our cooler was stolen. Although it was empty, it was still a major inconvenience. Also, because my group was mainly college students (6 of us) we were targeted by the Park Rangers- they drove by about every fifteen minutes to keep an eye on us. We had a good time otherwise!

Need Better Signage - The park is coming along (post Katrina) and will be a showcase in the future. I love the WIFI. Suggestions: 1. Signs at the 190/59 intersection directing campers to the park. 2. Sign for park on 190 for campers coming from Lacombe. 3. Note on the reservation web site that holders of Golden Age Passport can receive a discount. The reservation personnel who answer the phones should also ask if the caller holds a Golden Age Passport card. Campers are not aware that the Louisiana State Parks honor the card.
One of our favorite parks - very clean, lots of trees for shade, things to keep the kids entertained.
no bears here - Nice place to stay thats not for from lots to do if you take the ferry.
nice park - Nice park but the sites are hard to get in because the trees are too close

Second to none - - This is a beautiful park, the lake is great. Always catch fish, catfish, bass or crappie, which ever you like to fish for. We have rented cabins for family reunions and everyone loved it.

Watch for Children - A very calm, quiet place to relax and enjoy creation. One of the great parks in the Louisiana system. Drive thru hookups are a real plus.
