The column divides the view of the mansion. Columns are great symbols of hard work. Harkness park is the true sign of hard work and the luxury to follow afterwards.

The lines and the curvature of this tree is an example of how beauty lies in the imperfect. This tree never runs out of shapes. When it is covered in the summer, it is a perfect hideaway spot. Also, you can pay respects to the animals that once resided on these grounds.

Featured on U-Haul Trucks - Dinosaur State Park is featured on the U-Haul Connecticut truck graphic. This park has a wealth of history and gives us a better look into the time of the dinosaurs.

Great place to take the family - Many great memories at the park. Riding bikes, playing frisbee, horses, beach, hide and seek. Great area.

Great Trails and views - I live just down the street. What a great place to go and hike. Fantastic views and good trails makes for a great day.
Great place to hike - We love it here and hike different segments of the forest 5-6 times a week. It is quiet, not busy, and and has some beautiful spots if you search around a little bit. Great spot for dogs to run free to if they are friendly.

paradise - nature, beauty, relaxation, exercise and fun!
Go for the human, not natural history - Fascinating history as a Cold War military site, with a few pieces of decaying equipment. If you visit at just the right time of summer, you may see lots of salamanders.

I WOULD NOT CAMP HERE AGAIN - The park itself is very presentable. The bathrooms however, were absolutely filthy. The elderly camp Ranger was absolutely miserable and was on search to find campers in violation of even the smallest of rules. If you are used to camping at sites where you do not get bothered if you are not bothering anyone, I would strongly urge you to NOT go to Black Rock State Park.

Shelter Parking Costly - I reserved the shelter for a family reunion. The day was beautiful but was marred by the parking fee arrangements. The cost of parking ($15 for out of state and $9 for instate) was not posted on the website. I attempted to make arrangement with the guard to keep a tally of attendees cars so that I could pay the parking fees at once. Their policy is that payment be made for each car as it enters the park. I ended up spending two and a half hours at the gatehouse greeting guests and paying the fee (no credit cards are accepted). Thus, costing me time away from the activities. The shelter and surrounding grounds were well suited for our activities. We played volley ball, bean toss, and other field games and the kids enjoyed finding smooth rocks in the river to paint. Also, we brought trash bags since there are no trash bins at the site. I would not schedule another event at Peoples Forest unless there are better parking arrangements.
First contact - My first contact with staff over the phone was very cordial and helpful. Ranger have no choice but to be more vigilant because of the minority of misbehaving people who have ruined it for the majority. They can check on me as much as they need to, no problem. it will make me feel safer. I will post another review once I stay.
- have camped here off n on since 1941(time off for ww2)have seem many changes over the years. receent rise in fees has put this wonderful park out of reach to many people, and you dont get much in services for the high price( NO HOOKUPS WHATSO EVER)only 5 handicap sites out of 550? only the stste could get away with that!!
- Went there recently to East beach and people were running from there because of an infestation of horseflies!!! Would not recommend!! Was very unhappy and had to go to another state beach!!
- A wonderful place for a wedding - my son & his wife got married there in May.... it was beautiful! The mansion is perfect for a small wedding or a large wedding.
