Indiana Parks Visitor Reviews
3/30/2012 5:22:27 PM Clark State Forest by Chip Heath
what about the trail systems. - I bought 4 bridle tags for myself and family, now I find out all of the trails are closed, someone decided they needed to close all of the trails after the March 2nd tornado. Most trails were not even affected. Do not forget DNR the tax payers own this park, we pay you to manage it not to close it. Wake up and do the right thing!!!
Love Dogwood Lake - A great place to camp. Have been 10 yaers in a row. Great fishing and a nice park!
2/24/2012 Richard Lieber State Park by A. Cottrell
Wonderful - I have been camping for the last 10 years and my favorite place to take my 3 small children is Lieber Lake. We can enjoy the pool or the playground or go on an adventure that they will treaure forever.
2/22/2012 Greenburg Reservoir State Fishing Area by Michael E. Ruby
Going dry - This reservoir could be a good place for fishing, but there is a leak under the overflow which is draining the reservoir.
2/19/2012 Ouabache State Park by Dave and Peggy
A fun day - 2/18/12 we Did a late winter hike. Looks as if the park staff is working hard on fixing up some trails. Look forward to going back in spring and doing more Hiking and enjoying the peace and quiet.
1/22/2012 Summit Lake State Park by Freq. visitor
Love the park! - We camp there regularly. The sites are tidey. The bathrooms are clean. Shower water is HOT! The kids are able to ride there bikes around the campgroud without worry. Everyone is friendly. We take our small boat on the lake and fish. we have a great time. The only thing I dont like is all the goose poop.
1/19/2012 Shades State Park by Austin L.
My Escape - 10pm in the middle of January and here I am on the Shades website planning my trip(s) this coming summer with butterflies in my stomach. Enough said.
12/28/2011 Versailles State Park by Afton Judy
Be careful during Nov-Feb - The park does not post any signs warning visitors of steel traps set during the trapping season. Children and dog walkers be aware of traps set near campground creeks!
Great Cabins - The cabins at Harmonie State Park are fantastic! I stayed two days to have a break. It was awesome. Great cabins for a family, too. This park was clean, quiet and beautiful.
11/17/2011 McCormicks Creek State Park by Kathryn Kovacs
- I grew up just a few miles from McCormick Creek State Park. A great place to spend a day going hiking or camping on the weekends.
11/8/2011 Summit Lake State Park by biker78
Nice - Enjoyed biking the roads, beautiful trees.
10/29/2011 Jackson-Washington State Forest by Forest Hiker
Excellent Forest - This is an excellent actively managed State Forest. They provide recreation and sustainable timber harvesting at the same time.
10/23/2011 Versailles State Park by Klw1224
Great first impression with one snag - Camped in electric site B. As first-timers, enjoyed the room the park offers for the sites. The trails were perfect for novice to experienced hikers of all ages. Yes, there are no horses for campers to ride, pool was closed for season, and electricity was turned off (I will get to that). We took the kids and the grandparents on an hour hike on trails 2 and 3. This state park gives you reasons to explore. Bring your bikes and prepare to be pleased. One caution: They will never admit this, but the park has to save money with cutbacks in attractions so they have to charge when they can. Prepare to have your electricity shut off during peak times of the year. The regulars say it happens all the time. They say it is outside the park but I visited many businesses to find our if they get ruling brownouts with the park and they laugh just like the regular campers. Called the our company and they laughed too, so if you get the idea. Please conserve energy when you can is the message, so explore indiana like its meant to be seen.
So much fun! - We came in September and camped with another family. Our kids had so much fun and so did the adults. Our campsite was so spacious we could set up cornhole and wiffle ball at the same time and not be too close to the fire. It was great!
10/16/2011 Whitewater State Park by Bud
One of the best state parks - We have camped at several state parks and Whitewater is one of the best. It is very well maintained and the staff is very friendly. They make you want to come back. Whitewater is our favorite state park in the area. They also have several playgrounds for the kids.
10/9/2011 Versailles State Park by 5goldenrings
Nice long hike along the Grandview trail - We hiked the Grandview mountain biking trail starting out at the Schimmerhorn Shelter area. It was a well constructed and maintained trail. We did not meet any other hikers but there were many mountain bikers out. We all shared the space with mutual gratefulness that we had such a great trail to enjoy on this beautiful fall day!
10/7/2011 Potato Creek State Park by jke
love the horsemans campground - love camping with our horses...hard to get sites on holidays..love reservation service but i feel if you do not have horses you should not be able to reserve site...but using for over flow is fine the day of...alot of people cannot get a site because of them reserving for non horse people on holidays

9/27/2011 Spring Mill State Park by Mike Kitchen
kids of all ages - Took my family camping at Spring Mill this summer, the whole family enjoyed it. We never ran out of things to do. The young boys were always waiting the next adventure and wore out by bed time. I just wish they would build some primative and family cabins. We will be back again and again
Simply Awesome! - Love the park so much... I proposed to my, well now my fiance there. It has become a tradition to camping there now every year. Thankyou for such a beautiful park!
9/19/2011 Shades State Park by Tim W from Evansville
Great place to camp and explore -
9/18/2011 Chain O'Lakes State Park by Marilyn
One of our favorites - We enjoy the boating/kayaking from lake to lake, enjoy birding, and the campfire on the lake. This weekend was our first time kayaking in the dark. It was really great.
9/1/2011 Versailles State Park by lilhoss3
Great place to get away - The crappie fishing was great this past spring not to mention the bass fishing has not been to bad. I only live ten miles from the lake and it is a great place to go and relax. The scenery is great and not to mention there are a few Bald Eagles that can be seen if you know where to go. The wildlife is abundant and fishing is great if you catch it at the right time. I would recomend this state park to anyone. So, go and see it even if it only for a day you will have a great time being outdoors.
Horse Trails - I use to go here as a young girl with my family and our horses. I loved riding my horse through the beautiful trails. I really enjoyed going when the leaves were just starting to change color.
8/30/2011 Pokagon State Park by Patti from Michigan
A Labor of Love - we have made Pokagon Park a Labor Day Camping Ritual for 4 years now. We love it more each year
8/18/2011 Chain O'Lakes State Park by Ryan Newman Fan
Nice Place To Camp - Nice, clean campground. Some spots may be a little small for larger units, so make sure to check length of site. Bathhouses need updated. As said by many here, the showers suck. You can not control them and they are all burning hot. The beach is nice, but can get very crowded by locals in the community coming into the park for the day. This state park is one of the few with a camp store. This is by far the best camp store we have seen yet. A great choice for a weekend camping trip.
8/18/2011 Ouabache State Park by Ryan Newman Fan
Our Sentimental Favorite - My parents took me here when I was a kid and now I take my family here. The campground is very clean. Most sites are nice and level. Great for big rigs. The pool is the best in Indiana as they added a large waterslide a couple years back. If I have to pick a negative the bathhouses could use a updating. The main, original campground section A, has by far the best sites. The newer section, B, is not paved, and sits on a hill. Great trails, great playgrounds. A great place to stay.
8/10/2011 Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge by lovetheparksinIndiana
A great spot! - We first visited Muscatatuck when we moved to Seymour years ago. Quiet & beautiful park. Even with our kids now teenagers they still love to visit the Myers Cabin and the visitors center.
8/7/2011 Chain O'Lakes State Park by PAM
HOT - Great park, nice beach, but the showers are VERY HOT TO HOT FOR KIDS AND ME.
8/4/2011 Martin County State Forest by Jason Browder
Our annual family reunion spot - Martin State Forest is a great place to visit. There is good mushroom hunting in the spring along with several game species to hunt including wild turkey, deer, ect. There are also a couple of ponds on the property. There is a primitive campground that is well kept and shelter houses that you can reserve for birthday parties or family reunions. There is a very nice playground and the top of the fire tower makes for a wonderful view, especially in the fall.
8/2/2011 Pokagon State Park by Alicia
Fun!!!! - My family had so much fun there!
7/31/2011 Harmonie State Park by Angela

7/25/2011 Chain O'Lakes State Park by The Smiths
Great Park - We camped for a week with our 4 kids and loved it, even in the 90+ weather. The beach was nice and canoeing was great. Shower/bathroom houses were well kept.
7/24/2011 Summit Lake State Park by confused in indiana33
hadnt been there in years - change- since when do I need to pay to go into a state park, when did all of this happen?
7/20/2011 Versailles State Park by TBabydoll&Family
block coolers from racoons... - Love this park, but it seems to be going down hill. The horse barn closed, no events go on in camp ground, also not very good fishing.Would love to see changes in these areas, it would draw in more people and let the regulars enjoy our time more. I also think if you camp you should swim for free or discounted. You have to pay to get in park, pay to camp, and pay to get in pool. All this money should help to have more fish and have horses to ride, and may be to organize a corn-hole tournament in camp ground.Hopefully will get better, we love coming here, would love-love more if changes are made.
7/19/2011 Versailles State Park by Damon
Fishing is ok - They need to drain and dredge the lake. It is very shallow and full of debris. They no longer have paddle boats and part of the lake when it is dry like this you can walk across the dried mud pretty soon it will only be mud with streams trickeling through.
7/15/2011 Ouabache State Park by Long time fan
Pool, boating & buffalo - This is a wonderful park. I loved it as a kid. My kids now love to go also. The pool is great. They have a very fun waterslide. The paddleboats are so much fun. Our favorite is the buffalo. They are so much fun to watch. Plus, we are all challenged by the fire tower. It is hard to stay away from and always a challenge to make it to the top. How brave are you?
7/14/2011 Versailles State Park by Tavis
Ups and Downs - The park is good for a weekend trip with the family. The only problem i have is that, one day me and my friends were walking on one of the bike trails and got lost and ended up in MILAN! It took 5 hours took get back to the camper. They need to fix the trails.
Love it! - We have been to a few State Parks and Ouabache is our favorite! A lot to do, very nice faculities, friendly people! Shower faculities are the nicest of the State Parks! We love the pool (its not heated), paved bike trails, and good fishing!
A fun place for families! - We were at Spring Mill this past weekend camping with my sister and her family. It was our first time at the park. We had a wonderful time. There are a lot of activities for kids to do. We went hiking, swimming and toured the pioneer village. I would recommend it highly.
7/6/2011 Owen-Putnam State Forest by DONALD COLLINS

7/5/2011 Versailles State Park by JOHN FROM OHIO
- THE FAMILY WAS A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED THAT THE HORSES AND THE PADDLE BOATS WERE GONE. CAMPING IS ALWAYS NICE IN INDIANA, BROWN CO. AND CLIFTY FALLS.

summer fun - i have fun here every year. i love the beach, rooms, the pool, and game room!
7/4/2011 Spring Mill State Park by Family Favorite
Best Overall Park and Inn - I came to the Inn in 1982 when I was a kid. Now I have been bringing my family and children since 2001. My two teenage girls love the Ping Pong table in the Inn. It is made from a tree from the Park. The trails and Pioneer village are a great way to see nature and a living histroy museum and it is FREE. If you like history see the cemetery at the top of the hill where the pioneers who lived in the park area are laid to rest. Food at the Inn gives variety and has tasty desserts. Go anytime of year and you will have something to enjoy.

The best state park in indiana - I have been going to spring mill my whole life.I am now 33 years old i am starting to take my family and make memories with the them there. It is such a beautiful park the trails are excellent to hike. The village is really neat to go through. It makes you feel like you are back in time. The campground has excellent sites for camping in a tent.I am very thankful to live in a state that has parks as neat as Spring Mill to go.It is important that we preserve our parks so our childrens children can enjoy them to.
A Great Park - We love this park! We camp several times a year here...highly recommend it!
6/29/2011 Yellowwood State Forest by dave
nice camping spot - Just spent the weekend at yellowwood lake.the lake is full again and seemed much cleaner.fishing is ok, nothing major in there and never really has. All and all its a very enjoyable place
Lots to do - This is an absolutely beautiful place. The cabins are wonderful, the beach is immaculate, the trails incredible. Love it!
Yellowwood Lake is Back - They have finished the dredging on the north end of the lake. The water levels are back to normal.
- love your camping but showers were to hot.

Damn is completed - The damn is completed. Been there three times this year ( 2011 ).
6/8/2011 Spring Mill State Park by Tim M.
been going here for years - my family has held reunions there for years and i have been coming here camping for years, i have used both the primitive sites and prefer the electric sites though especially during the summer so can have fans. ive read some of the other reviews on here and most i agree with, as with any other place with public showers and restrooms its always a good idea to bring your own supplies especially if it is popular place like this one got a couple hundred people using facilities things go quick.. as far as best sites as one person asked there are alot, best suggestion i can give on best sites is to go there once before your planned trip, if you ask they will give you a map and let you drive through and you can mark sites you would prefer to stay in and plan accordingly. i have one i have marked with around 50 real good level/shaded areas which level not really being a worry in a camper it makes a big difference in a tent so ya dont end up in a ball in a corner of it in the morning. lol. started coming here before i can remember, if i wasnt camping on family land i was campping here. 40 years later if i am not camping on family land i am camping here, i have tried other places but none are as good as spring mill has always been for us.. always something to do or somewhere to go, or just lazily hanging around the campsite, it always makes for a nice couple days to get away. i am headed there this weekend and i dont expect it to be any different.
6/4/2011 Ouabache State Park by Very pleased
Well equipped and great employees! - Weather was terrible and they went around and kept every campsite informed and told us to take cover. Very nice place to take your children plus very quiet at nite too!
6/1/2011 Mounds State Park by DLDELIGHT
Great place - This campgrounds is great! The restrooms and showers are nice and clean! Also, the nature center is wonderful. The White River is great for kayaking and canoeing. It runs right by the campgrounds too.
5/18/2011 Mounds State Park by INhiker
- Small park, but some decent (although easy) trails.. nothing strenuous at all, or longer than 2.5 miles. Lovely old trees, though!
camping - We go camping here atleast once a year, great fishing and the kids love it.
YES PIECE AND QUIET - WE COME YEAR AFTER YEAR AND ALWAYS HAVE A GREAT EXPERIENCE. WOULD RECOMMEND LARGER PICNIC TABLES. I DO HAVE TO SAY THAT MY HUSBAND GOT OUR BACON BACK WITH THE RACCOON TRIED TO TAKE OFF WITH IT. LAUGHED SO HARD I CRIED. VERY MEMORABLE TIMES AT SHADES STATE PARK. KEEP YOUR EYE OUT FOR THE GHOST A FRIENDLY GHOST CAME TO VISIT US.
5/10/2011 Whitewater State Park by paul cotton
great place for kids - best blue gill fishing in state
5/9/2011 Clifty Falls State Park by jj
Great Hiking- Beware the Ticks! - We tent camped in the non-electric site May 6,7,8 2011. The park is beautiful; trails are rugged and worth the effort, campsite was lovely and new bathroom facilities were fantastic...BUT our family of five managed a shared 11 ticks on us despite wearing deep woods off. Thus...BEWARE- the ticks are out in force!
my favorite place - my first pick for camping so peaceful and no one bothers you
4/26/2011 O'Bannon Woods State Park by palmyra mike
great family park - water park is the finest family pool in area, also consider the many trails and camp ground. corydon in. is 15 mins away and has all the resturants and stores including 24hr wal-mart.
4/23/2011 Shades State Park by A. Scott
So beautiful I want to cry... - My husband and I came here for the first time in the spring of last year and absolutely fell in love with the place. We were trying to steer clear of crowded, commercialized parks and this was just the place for us! Everything is so untouched and beautiful, like being in a different place in time. The camp sites are, for the most part, wooded and private. There are plenty of water supplies, trail heads, and vault toilets nearby each site and the sites themselves are rustic the way they should be! . This is a perfect place to get away from it all. The only thing we would change about it is we wish there was a shower house at the end of the sites, closer to Raccoon Run or Rookery Ridge. Other than that we hope this park never changes and we look forward to coming back year after year.
4/18/2011 Spring Mill State Park by Pam Cunningham April 2011
Spring Mill Inn - My husband and I find peace and comfort at the Inn. My husband loves the fall and the persimmon tree at the beginning of the walk into the Pioneer Village. What a beautiful Indiana Park. We are looking forward to our stay in October this year!!

4/4/2011 Ferdinand State Forest by outdoorlady, Jeffersonville
Best kept secret! - Our family loves to visit. The camping, fishing and hiking are all excellent. Its no wonder why when we talk with people there that everyone wants to keep it a secret! The last time we were there in March, lots of local people were coming in and clearing the trails for bikers...we thought that was great community pride! Everyone we talk with is so friendly and the game wardens came 2x a day, also very friendly. We LOVE IT!

a long time destination - i have been coming to springmill since i was 8 and im now 34. now i bring my kids and we all love it!!! no other state park compares. keep up the good work !!!

It was ok - I had a moderate time here.. smoked a lot of the green and just chilled the whole time.. good time

3/16/2011 Greene-Sullivan State Forest by LuvHorses
Great Trails for Horse Riding! - This has become my favorite place to go trail riding. The trails are very well maintained and offer something for everyone. Whether you like flat trails or a challenge, you will find it here. The day camp and overnight camping areas are nice also.
racoon bait - for primitive camping and nature this is a great site. The fishing is very lame though I really think all three ponds have minimal fish that can fit on a hook. Primitive camping is great but watch out for the fat hungry racoon at sunset.
3/11/2011 Chain O'Lakes State Park by un happy camper
UN-FUN CAMPING - WHY IS RALLY AREA FOR PRIMATIVE CAMPING BEING CHARGED PER HEAD COUNT.THE SITES ON MAIN CAMP GROUNDGROUND ALLOW 6 PEOPLE PER SITE WHATS GOING ON LETS REAL THATS UNFAIR. EVEN KIDS SLEEP FOR FREE AT HOLIDAY INN
- The Mounds Park is a great place for Family gatherings. But when the system goes down to make reservations than the park office should be allowed to take the reservations.
We were married here! - My husband and I love this park. We come every year to spend time and enjoy the park. The campground is one of the best in the state, and the village is beautiful.
Best visit end of April - beautiful spring flowers. wonderful weather. NO bugs. Inn and Park great.
My Family Land - I am the great grandaughter of the woman you refer to as the lady in black all i ask is to respect our family cemetary, dont bring your own wood, and dont destroy our property......
12/30/2010 Fort Harrison State Park by Bob Drake
A great place to spend the day. - A wonderful place to spend the day with the family.A great place to hike and at the same time learn some Military History.
A very great state park . - A tribute to the greatest president, walk to the Lincoln National Memorial and go to the fire tower for a great view, I spent many summer days there when I was a kid, many great memories of my friends at the park, or go in the fall when the trees are changing color.
midnight bandits - The park was very nice, but as soon as it started to get dark we had trouble with raccoons coming into our campsite looking for food, which we had already locked in the trunk of our car. Also someone over a couple of sites fired a gun during the night, my guess is that they were having trouble with raccoons too. We packed up and left as soon as it was light

Our Favorite State Park - Greatest place to turn your kids loose & all have a wonderful time. From the camp grounds to the nature center/the many easy & challenging trails/and a great relaxing swimming pool. Positively awesome!

Handy - We have been camping here annually since 2005. We take grandchildren to experience the Fire Tower, buffalo, geese, boating, hiking, swimming, and nature in general.
Please Leash Your Dog - No one comes to this park to have your dog jump up on them, etc.... Please follow the leash rules and everyone can have a good time, including the wildlife!
loved this park! - We stayed at the campground in this park in June earlier this year and had a great time! The hiking trails were amazing with several scenic areas. We stayed during the week and my kids were totally bummed that the pool was not open the entire time we were there...but that was really the only negative. The campground was nice and well kept - our campsite/area was the best by far (site #224) - it was a small wooded area on a loop, my 4 year old rode his bike around the small loop the entire time we were there. We went canoeing for the first time in the river and had a great time! My husband and daughter went horseback riding and loved it - the trails were great. We were surprised by this park and would difinately recommend it!
11/6/2010 Spring Mill State Park by kbfarmtoys
Very Nice Park - My family is pretty new to camping and were told that this is the busiest time of year, but wow, the campground was PACKED - I think the key for us is to just go during the week. The restrooms were okay, but not great - they ran out of toilet paper a few times and the showers need work. We saw the pioneer village, which was amazing and well-kept. We hiked a few trails, which were nice and kept up well for the most part. The boatride in the cave is a must - it is not too long, which was perfect for my kids (and cheap too, only cost $12 for my entire family). The 2 story nature center was awesome, although I found it weird and no personnel was there. I would definately recommend this park.
11/4/2010 Spring Mill State Park by T C Butler
My favorite vacation destination! - I have visited this park too many times to count over the past five decades. For the past ten years, I have stayed at the inn for my vacation. I can spend my vacation almost anywhere on the continent; however, I choose to stay at Spring Mill. I thoroughly enjoy the peace, serenity, and solitude at Spring Mill State Park. I highly recommend it to my friends and colleagues. The park is truly a treasure.
11/4/2010 Pokagon State Park by Beth
Our home away from home - I have been going to Pokagon State Park since 1989 and absolutely LOVE it! I feel as though I am coming home every trip I make there. I have camped in a tent, camper, and stayed in the lodge too many times to count. My husband and I even have our favorite room in the lodge that we request each visit. Our grown children are now camping there. It is an excellant park!!!
one complaint - The only complaint i have is that i was dropping camper off for my wife & still got charged. Was there for 15 minutes, & explained this to person at the gate. I go there 4 or 5 times a year, and other indiana state parks all summer long, but this kind of left me with a bad feeling.
10/22/2010 Indiana Dunes State Park by KLeonard
Great trails and beach - Large beach with large, brick, public bathhouse that includes consessions in the summer season. The trails behind the sand dunes (150 feet elevation) are spectacular. Lots of wildlife and a huge assortment of plants and trees. The trails are mainly hard packed sand for easy hiking, but watch out for the tree roots.
10/19/2010 Lincoln State Park by James K. Phillips
in spite of the storm - I came through Indiana heading back home from a cross-country motorcycle trip. A storm had passed through and knocked out the electricity. Although the staff had to assign me a camping spot without the aid of their computer they did so efficiently and with a wonderful sense of humor. I was in the tent camping section and found that the shower room had the emergency lights on. Everything was really clean and well maintained and the other campers were all polite and quiet. I highly recommend this park to anyone on the road or looking for a beautiful place to spend a day or two.
10/17/2010 Clifty Falls State Park by JulietheGreat
Well, WE Liked It - I thought the trails were beautiful. I thought the scenery was out of this world, and right here in Southern Indiana too! I think a place this great is just too great for some people. Speaking of, those were beautiful cliffs that we saw. We love your park.
10/14/2010 Versailles State Park by Roger Messer
Great Memories - I have been camping at Versailles since 1981 as a kid with my parents. I now take my family there for the same. It has always been well kept and an overall great place to relax.

10/4/2010 Charlestown State Park by Randy
First Time visit - Walked the trail by the river. Very quiet and peaceful. Neat cliffs and rock ledges. Several other trails available. Saw some old remenats of the old Charlestown Landing. Relax and watch the river traffic go by from either one of two viewing vistas on the river bank. Lots of parking and a boat launch. One trail was closed due to construction. Several old train cars left to rot. Great photo op.

Great horse back riding - really nice trails, really pretty scenery! some trails extreme, but all but a few have a way around!
hot showers!!!!! - Loved camping here but the showers were so scalding hot!! Complained about this and they said nothing they could do. Great camping but too hot of showers.

Great camping poor trails. - The sites were great with plenty of room! Trails were not mark at all. Very disappointed in trail markings!
9/14/2010 Potato Creek State Park by Tabitha
Enjoy being out in nature! - We began coming to Potato Creek when it was just a State Recreation Area! Always enjoyed the nice size camping sites. Now we use the cabins. PCSP just keeps us coming back for more!
Horsemans paradise - Really enjoyed camping and riding at the Harrison-Crawford State forrest, excellent campground, the only complaint is not being able to bring your own wood, nice trails, would love to see the miles put on the trails under the trail number, so you would know how far from camp you are, would really help us new timers. A better map would help also. DNR officers were very nice and polite, no hassles.

Great memories fishn w my dad - We would rent a small boat & bring our trolling motor & some minnows & fish for hours for crappie & bass. The whole place is so clean, beautiful & best priced park around :)
Quiet in all its wonderful glory - We had a great time at this park, I grew up having Family Reunions here and have since started taking my kids and its so shady and cool even on the hot days. Love the quietness and everyone that camps here always seems so friendly and willing to lend a hand.
9/2/2010 Chain O'Lakes State Park by creeped out camper
inmate help - the poor timing of having yellow jumpsuit clad department of corrections inmates cleaning the family restrooms and showers mid morning when these facilities are at their peak use astonished me and my wife. these guys were leering at my family and the campers in the area were all very uncomfortable with this. we noticed no obvious supervision and will think twice before returning to camp here with so many other choices in the area.
Awesome - Winner winner chicken dinner!

Our best family camping memories. - Our indiana state park family camping trips are some of our favorite vacations. And even after 15 years Potato Creek is still first on our list to visit.
- We LOVE Pokagon! It is close to our home, beautiful trails, kid friendly, great beach and the nature center is a great feature for young campers.

8/5/2010 Yellowwood State Forest by Shadow
What in the world? - Was here in July 2010. The renovation of the lake-drained and dredging seems to have completely stalled? I hope they can fix this because beautiful Yellowwood lake is no more:(
Good Reservoir for Boating - We go pleasure boating on this reservoir. It has a nice No Wake Cove near the Miami Ramp and a nice No Wake zone at the river end past the bridge. It is currently suffering from severe algae bloom - signs are posted to wash afer exposure and not to consume any of the water. Normally this reservoir does not suffer from this problem - this is the first year that it has been this bad for so long.

Generations of Memories - When my mom was a young girl, growing up in early 1950s in southern rual Indaian, she went on a school fieldtrip to Spring Mill State Park and fell in love! As a young girl growing up in the early 1970s, my fondest memories are picnics with my family, exploring the village and dipping my feet in the cold spring water at the park. In the 1990s, I started taking my young daughter to the park and she too fell in love with it!! My mom, my daughter and I have had wonderful moments together at the park and when my daughter has children, she plans on continuing the tradition!!

Excellent park - Friendly staff. Lovely camp grounds.
Great place! - Excellent park, if you want to picnic get the Skyline shelter house, it has amazing views!
Lots to see - Had lots of fun looking for birds and other wild life. We saw Otters, Deer, Great Blue Heron, Great Egret, Sandhill Crane,Red-headed Woodpecker, Eastern Kingbird, Gray Catbird, Indigo Bunting and more. Everyone should check this place out. We plan to visit again soon
7/7/2010 Potato Creek State Park by tmiller
Makes you feel like a child - If you don’t mind feeling like a child with very strict parents. This place is for you !! You might want to check the rules before you plan on staying at this place ! I will never camp or fish or Kayak here again!!
Rocks! - Only place to go bouldering legally on state owned property in Indiana. Check out the climbing gym in the park if you get the chance! Kundalini (V3/4) is worth the trip. A striking, highball acute-arete with a horn feature on top. Check it out!
Great overall experience! - Took my wife and kids camping this week and when I asked them how this vacation fared, they all rated it over international vacations as well as vacations to some top vacation sites here in the states...they loved the camp ground and the pool! Kids are 7&9.
6/30/2010 Whitewater State Park by Not pleased
good BUT - We really enjoy the park, but our site was very wet and muddy covered with straw and should have NEVER been rented out for anyone to stay on. We also have same site reserved for the next week and they will NOT allow us to to switch to another spot even though the spot is available.. SO DO NOT reserve site 9
6/28/2010 Angel Mounds State Memorial by nancy
Life-size models & ancient artifacts - In the museum, the life-size people, houses, and fields are impressive and informative. Many important artifacts include chunkey stones and large reverse-decorated pottery. Several mounds are in view after a short walk. Hikers will find more to experience.
good hunting - very good for deer hunting
6/26/2010 Richard Lieber State Park by KMW

POOL CLOSED!! HORSES GONE!!! - Been a whiles since we camped at Versailles..Brought my 2 nephews up for a few days to swim, horse back ride and camp..My husband got here before me set the camper up and settled in. Found out after I arrived the pool was closed for 2 weeks only opened on weekends and they no longer have horses here. I would of left but he have everything set up. Really disaapointed in the cuts I see in Indiana Parks. With the way things are really a shame the State of Indiana is making cuts in the parks....
6/8/2010 Charlestown State Park by Matthew
Still a young park - Charlestown State Park camping area lacks wooded lots as it is still very young. However they have full hookups and nice showering facilities. They have a few nice trails that are not to challenging. This is a good option to let the kids play and typically quiet with lots of free lots.

Our new FAVORITE place to camp! - My husband and I have just started taking our 5 year old twin boys camping. We were hoping to find a place that we would like to keep going back to, so that we could start a familiar tradition with our boys. Versailles State Park was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT for us! The campsite that we got was directly across from the bathrooms and showers and it was so peaceful and quiet. There was a playground for the kids without short walking distance. The land was incredibly beautiful and the park employees were extremely friendly and helpful. We had to drive an hour to get there, but it was totally worth it! We will definitely keep going back to Versailles!

5/30/2010 Chain O'Lakes State Park by --
This park is among my Fondest Memories! - I love this park and hiking at it.
Horrible - These people threw us out of their park while we were cleaning up trash. Horrible campout. DNR were like Nazis, stalking patrons with night vision goggles and hassling people. If you are an out doors nature lover STAY AWAY! We were quiet and respectful. Unreal. Bite the hand that feeds and become the hand that takes. we have been doing conservation work for 20 years and we have never had a more insulting experience.

5/23/2010 Shades State Park by Matt S
peace and quiet - I love Shades its very private. I love I can walk all day and rarely see a person. Its the perfect getaway you can fish, hike, camp. They also have great playgrounds for the kids. Last but not least the park workers, rangers, maintenance, etc. They do a awesome job keeping the park in tip top shape. Thank You and keep up the good work.
5/17/2010 Pike State Forest by Lost but Trashless Rider
Horseback Rider - I agree that there was alot of trash left behind on the trails!! Very sad!!!! I follow the rule what you bring in you take out!! That means everything!!!! Also it would have been very helpful if the trail markers were alittle more detailed!! The map we got at the office was really confusing! We had to use the GPS on one of our riders I-phone. Thank God for technology!!
Over 20 Years Camping Here - I have camped at Glendale almost every year for the past 20 years. It is clean, nice shade trees, and large lots. It is designed for outdoors people. It can get really busy on the weekends so get here early! I love it because it is quiet, affordable and perfect for a week or weekend!
beautiful place to stay - me and my wife love camping and fishing here. the views are spectacular

Fun Place to go Lots to Do - We used to camp here every summer as kids would stay max time & do the Nature Center Walks & programs- Bike, Swim, Hike, & it kept us entertained all summer. Most sites then were pretty shaded so kept it a little cooler than beach not sure how it is now

Simply Wonderful!!! - Camping is primative, if you like that sort of thing, it is very good but you do have alot of other campers near by. Not truely Primative or deep in the woods. Fishing? Some of the best in Indiana as far as strip pits go. Some of the lakes are so clear it is like fishing in a giant aquariam. Loved it.

Great Family Times!!!! - My dad took my brothers, his girlfriend and I there years ago and it was AWESOME! Great scenery!!! Very quiet and great for friends and family!!! Cant wait to go back soon!!!
got a little lost - to me the trails were not very well marked, it seemed there was only one symbol for every trail i was on. in the end it was an okay park decent scenery, and the detour only added a couple hours to the adventure

My favorite place to relax in Indiana! - The inn is awesome!A great place for a romantic get away or for a large family get together. But my favorite, favorite, thing is the Sunday morning bird walk with a naturalist who is extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic, has a high power spotting scope, and makes enjoying nature really fun! It is a great place to go in any season!

3/14/2010 Pike State Forest by Toeped
been going there for years. - A nice place but the horse riders litter up the horse trails real bad. Beer and soda cans and food containers all over the place. Also ATV users ride unchecked on foot traffic only areas to reach outer lying areas for hunting. Both of these things need to be stopped. Great camping areas with a playground and running water. A nice place.
How Amazing - My children and I enjoyed Turkey Run evey weekend
Great Park! - Great Fishing.
I love this place - I spend 3 days last summer here with friends and family and we had a good time. Hope to do it again this year

A Great Place To Trail Ride - This park has 8 miles of well maintained bridle trails. There are two nice size creeks to cross and several small streams. The hills & wide trails along with excellent scenery makes for a relaxing and enjoyable time. They have horse rental, horse camping and a day parking area. There is water for the horses, restrooms at day camp, horse camp and next to the horse rental barn. There are also a couple of picnic tables along the ride to stop, relax, enjoy the day or catch a bite to eat. This is one of our favorite places to ride anytime of the year. Thanks to everyone at Whitewater State Park for doing such a great job on these trails!

11/23/2009 Shades State Park by BSA T. 251 Asst. Scoutmaster
I love this park. - I was a Boy Scout for as long as I can remember, and I have camped at many campgrounds, recently I graduated from Boy Scouts and decided to stick around and help out, I am glad I did. My troop stayed at Shades last weekend, Nov 20-22, and everyone loved it! the trails are amazing, the absoluted best I have seen in Indiana, and Michigan. the campsites we stayed at, Youth, were clean and well maintained, though a little swampy at the north edge. there was plenty of room for star gazing, tents and games- all at once! The ravines(ladder trails) were amazing, devils puch bowl made me feel like a little kid, high on exitement. Beautiful waterfalls rewarded us for the hike down the creek. On our we took a trail with only one ladder from the play ground, found sugar creek, got onto a large area of river stones, and found this pile of rocks, about 6 ft. high and 3-4 Ft. around. I will come back someday and the troop is already making plans to do so.
11/16/2009 Pokagon State Park by Leslie A. Wilson
Perfect Fall Weekend - Pokagon was beautiful this weekend. The trails were perfect for walks with the dogs and getting in a bit of trail-running. Most enjoyable were all the terrific people I met. Special thanks to all the park staff, everyone was so helpful and had great attittudes. Spent some time kayaking on Lake James and enjoyed the swans and ducks. Perfect time of the year to get out on the lake for us paddlers... and the lake is so clean. Plan to make another trip over the winter to enjoy the toboggan run.
Peaceful way to enjoy nature! - A great getaway for camping, fishing, bird watching, or hunting.
- i was bit by a deer. i saw people from the YHCC peeing in the lake. i tried swimming in the lake, and got seaweed in my mouth. this park is inexcusable. there was a green truck, always using swear words and almost hit our campsite while driving. we left immediately.
- Glendale is a Fish and Wildlife area, mostly made up of Hunters, Trappers, Wildlife Watchers and Fishermen. It is not a typical campground. My excellent rating is based on what the area is designated for. Keep this in mind and you will fall in love with the area. Not many places like it.

Great Trails - Some of the best hiking anywhere in the Midwest. Nice lodge. The camp sites are OK. Clean and a wide variety of shaded and sun sites. The campground is crowded all summer. Tis is a high use park but maintained well.
A Tradition - My dad started taking me there in 1964-the old days Went many times in college Natural Resource Major at Ball State. One of a kind - next-to nature-in cognito experience in the area.a place you remember even when you move on. Will be back this Fall to experience/appreciate. A must experience!!!!!

Very Clean and Beautiful - Wonderful camping. This campground had the cleanest bathrooms of any state park I have visited. That is important to many of us female campers! Also, the Nature Center is wonderful.
Family Tradition - Both my parents and their parents came here when they were young. My siblings and I were taken here every summer when we were young. Now my children will be coming here every summer as I have. There is so much to do and it is awesome.

Dear To Much - We visited Versailles state park 8/18/09. We wanted to check out the park to see if it was something we would be interested staying in.We had to check in like everyone else. We told them we would only be staying long enough to check out the campground and find sites we would like to stay at. We did not have to pay the $7.00 charge you are talking about. It was mentioned, however I ask what the $7.00 was for and that I would only be a few minutes and they let me on in without paying. We have to speak up. No one should have to pay a fee for looking. What a beautiful place it was. Hopefully I can now get the site we picked out booked.

Cool as a cucumber - I love the shade and cool water. It makes a hot day so cool. The buildings and scenery makes you feel like you are in the past and it is kept so pretty.
Great Park - I really enjoyed camping here, Sugar Creek is very close if you like canoe/ kayak (within a mile) We did the 15 mile trip. I went over 4th of July weekend and had a very good time - not noisy although their were tons of people. The sites have plenty of trees and are fairly private. Try not to forget anything though, b/c there is not anything very close. We are planning our next trip back in about a month. I would be careful about food though, for some reason this has been the worse park for racoons that I have been to this year.

Excellent place to take the kids - Believe me, we know -- with 5 children ranging in age from 13 to 8 :-) We have been 3 times just this summer alone & are planning to continue going back. $36 State Park Pass gets us into all of Indiana State Parks for the entire year & if they have a beach like Leiber does then you get to swim for FREE!! Wonderful family experience!

Horses,Bikes, or just walks in the woods - This park has it all. Wildlife, camping and miles of horse and bike trails together in this Great Northern Indiana Park. And it is only 2 hours from Chicago !! We have been camping here for 30 years and will continue for another 30.

Beautiful - Absolutely beautiful park, recommend families to go. They have lots to do and is not expensive at all.

Wawasee park perfect to tow up! - Been towing there for over a year now and it is great. I am trying to get this legal here now. Found out it was against the rules. Park authorities have been cool and with the Directors in Indy designating the site for towing paragliders. Saying a big prayer! We will be back in the sky over the lake again in the future. Thanks to everyone who as enjoyed this activity and your support to get designation so we can continue soon.
fun for the weekends - Potato Creek is a great place to go even for a weekend. Some of the activities that I have enjoyed are taking a bike ride, going to the beach, having a pick-nick, and taking a marvelous boat ride.
GREAT PLACE TO PICNIC! - I visited the Skyline Shelterhouse on July 19, 2009. I was in Brownstown visiting my grandkids and we went to the Park for a picnic. The view from up there was AMAZING! The roads in and out are very interesting to say the least.
- Excellent horse camping facilities, blacktop drive and pad for the trailer, really nice stalls and the trail riding has lots of options beginner to rugged. Great trails! I will go back again.
we love it - We love staying at Ouabache, but we hold our loaf of bread tightly, by our side, even if we have to go to the restroom... There are those bandits out there... cute little critters, at night!!!
- LOVE IT!
Great park, but - The bathrooms are horrible. Mildew on the shower curtains, no bench to put your stuff, and the shower heads have so much iron build up that the water barely comes out. Also no soap on the sinks. Otherwise I loved the park.
Great campground - My husband and I just got back from 4 nights of camping at Spring Mill. The location was great, we ride a motorcycle and the rides nearby are beautiful. We will definitely be back. The park and the Inn are very well kept. I highly recommend this park.

Small park....grab picnic areas early - The Pool was completely over capacity. Basically you were elbow to elbow. I thought they had capacity limits for safety? It was not pleasant when someone got sick in the pool and the staff waited to determine what to do. Then the staff decided to announce that the pool would close early. Not well managed.

What a treasure! - Ferdinand State Forest offers some of the best hiking and biking trails anywhere in Southern Indiana. Camping and fishing areas look to be just as good.
Beautiful! - This park is truly breath-taking. The natural rock and the creek make this park one the best in the state! I spent many summers here as a child and was recently able to bring my husband and children here for the first time to experience the beauty. We went throught Wolf Cave and my 11 year old and my 6 year old loved it! There is nothing like the tranquility and adventure you can find in this park!

love the park but draining the creek - I went this weekend, sept 7, 2008 they have drained the creek some its the most i dont know what word to use. From the shore line the water is back about 10-15yards. The explorer in me was looking at all the shells and stuff you dont get to see when the water is there. The nature side of me was looking for anything alive that needed to get put in the water. The artist side of me was looking at the new old upcoming life and death

9/4/2008 Jackson-Washington State Forest by Mark McCauley
A Family Tradition - This is one of our favorite places to go in the fall, and it has become quite a family tradition. We have been making this same trip for the past 20 years, and plan to keep doing so as long as we can. We typically visit around the middle of October, and take the route south of Indianapolis (I-65), to Seymour, and then west on Highway 50 to Brownstown. We always visit the Russell Stover outlet in Seymour (formerly in Brownstown), and then travel on to Brownstown. If you happen to be in Brownstown during normal work week hours, there is a Marian Kay Spice factory that might be a good place to visit (however we have never been there). Skyline Drive is probably our most loved site on the park property, but we also always drive down to Starve Hollow Lake and Knob Lake. There is a persimmon tree that grows next to Knob Lake, which we always have to collect a few specimens from each year. There is also a farm market we visit along what I think is called Lake Road. We usually have a picnic lunch in the shelter house on Skyline Drive, climb the fire tower, and then head back into Brownstown. Heading west on Highway 50, we drive the short distance to Highway 135, and then turn north to start the very scenic (and very winding) road to Nashville in Brown County. Along the route we pass through a very quaint little village called Story. There is an Inn/Restaurant there if you have the time, and a lot of spooky tales about the place (e.g. the Blue Lady). We end up in Nashville usually around sunset and walk the streets enjoying the sites, sounds and smells until the shops close. As I said before, this is our annual fall family tradition, and many precious memories have been made with our kids throughout the past 20 years. We have seen the Jackson-Washington Park property under all kinds of circumstances, and always find it worth while. As our kids are growing up and getting closer to starting their own families, we know they too will make this a tradition of their own families, as it has became such a special part of their own childhood memories. Thank you for all the work you do in keeping this property a place where families such as mine can continue to visit and enjoy for many years to come.

Fantastic Family Park - Congrats Indiana on having one of the best camgrounds/parks ever. We had a great time at this park. Very clean park and bathrooms. Friendly staff. We went to the pool (Great slide and high dive), went paddle boating, visited the nature center, and hiked on the trails. We stayed at the campground in a pop up. The sights were very large. We will go back. It is a short drive from Fairfield, Ohio.

First visit to this park - This is another one of those beautiful Indiana state parks!!! I hiked the 10K AVA event 08-16-08 and was so delighted with the hiking trails and beauty of this park. I could tell there was much love for this park. I was happy to see quite a few people enjoying the park that day. It made me happy to see so many people enjoying one of our beautiful state parks. I will return---it is a favorite on my list.

Best Indiana state park - I have been coming to Turkey Run State Park since I was an eight year old kid in 1954 and now enjoy taking my friends and grand children to this wonderful park. It never seems too crowded, the hiking is great and the land is beautiful. The cabins are not the most modern but the lodge is nice and the food good. Try this park in mid-winter also.
8/8/2008 Clifty Falls State Park by Darci & Bonnie Simpson
What a great time - My daughter and I stayed 3 nights at the Inn in one of the Parkview Suites. The room was very clean. Every one we met and helped us were very nice. We played tennis every day. The pool at the Inn is very nice. We have highly recommeded lots of friends and family to go to Clify Falls.
Love the pool and trails - This place was great. The pool was good with an really enjoyable slide, great for kids. The trails we rough but really neat rock formations. Good camp sites all and all a good experience I spent the time there with my 3 kids and spent less than $30.
Great day rides. - If you like rugged terrain and steep, narrow trails, this is as good as it gets in the northern half of the state. Nothing marked, ride where you want. Not the biggest but plenty for a days ride.

7/27/2008 Potato Creek State Park by Spud-nicks
Something for everyone... - Potato Creek is our favorite park. There is something for everyone. You can ride your bikes through the woods and prairie land, take a dip at the beach, and hike the trails. Wander a little bit off of the beaten path and you will find beaver dams, ospreys nesting, and wild turkeys strutting. We visit Potato Creek just about daily. There is an old cemetery in the State Park that still has a few plots left. We intend to enjoy the park for life...and then some.
a retirement heaven - absolutely beautiful. relaxing and serene. If you love Bambi, you surely will love it here. I loved it so much that I am selling my home here in new mexico and moving to Albion Indiana so my husband and I can retire in peace and enjoy the rest of our lives by the lakes.

Favorite Hikes from long ago - This was my favorite destination by car or canoe, back in the 50s and 60s. Summers in high school and on college vacations, here our gang gravitated for picnics, hikes, parking (summer nights in high school) and generally growing up in the appreciation of a local natural wonder.

7/6/2008 Mounds State Park by Brad
A small but very nice park! - I live near Anderson so I have been to mounds several times. There campgrounds are nice and pretty peaceful. They have nice trails not to ruggid, and the swimming pool is also nice the new kids sprinkler area is really neat my kids loved it.
relaxing - had a severe problem with campsite #8 on 7-3-08 after the rain - our campsite was completely flooded and the water was still standing on 7-5-08 when we left - it was from what we could tell the only campsite that had standing water on it. Something really should be done with that site for future campers. Also - my husband almost resist showering when we are there because there is no privacy in the showers for the men. Some men like their privacy as well. Please consider putting shower curtains up for men.

- The park was beautiful, but the fact that you had to pay an entrance fee of $7.00 per vehicle just to drive through to see the park and then a camping fee was crazy. I think you should not have to pay the $7.00 fee if you are camping.

We go every year! - I have been going to this park for 20 years now. The best one around. I highly recommend going.
6/3/2008 Richard Lieber State Park by WHAT ELSE DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR
Not a good park too take kids - The park will not let you even look to see if there is a sight available for your rv for ten minutes in the park without paying 4.00 each in the rain like we are goingto picknick for 10 minutes . Any other Park I have been to in the United States , State or County has never done this . Why Lieber ?? MONEY ???
6/2/2008 Potato Creek State Park by Little Jack
Great Weekend Getaway! - Everyone can find something to do. It is clean and the people are friendly.
5/31/2008 Owen-Putnam State Forest by Villagejester
Great Outdoors!! - I love this park. The campsites that I have visited are lightly used. I have stayed and fished at Rattlesnake campground. I have rarely seen another soul on any of my visits. It is like having the whole forest to myself.
5/31/2008 Selmier State Forest by Dianne
GREAT RETREAT - Thanks for maintaining this beautiful place--a great place for walking, birdwatching, being quiet. Also found your informational sites (numbered) interesting. A good thing the state is doing by managing/preserving this area.
Fishings great if you like carp - Ouabache is one of my favorite parks for camping. If you can, go see your site before you make reservations. My last campimng site could only be described as tree covered swamp with plenty of gravel in the soil to make stake pounding really interesting. Thank God I only brought three tents.
5/29/2008 Shades State Park by Debbie
Great family trails - Great camping, clean facilities. The best part had to be the trails. I was 6 months pregnant and we had our 8 year old son with us, and the trails were passable by all of us. The trails were also clean and well maintained. We had a map with the description of each trail...we plan to go back this year and finish the rest!
great park, great fishing -

5/22/2008 Spring Mill State Park by Dorothy
Love this place - I have visited several times. I almost always see a deer. I love Pioneer Village. My parents spent their honeymoon there 50 Years ago. It is a very peaceful place. If I had to complain about anything at all at this park the trails are sometimes poorly marked and difficult to follow. It is however one of my favorite places to visit and have a picnic. LOVE THE WATERFALL by Hamer Cave
5/19/2008 Pokagon State Park by K. Sternberg

5/6/2008 Ferdinand State Forest Lake by GEOFF
Best maintained park in Indiana - not many lakes in Indiana that you can fish for Bass,Bluegill,Crappie,Catfish and be satisfied of what you catch. Also a very well kept park, I am disabled and around the lake there are benches to sit on, they have thought of everything. Keep up the good work. I travel 1.5 hours to get to Ferdinand but it is worth it.
5/4/2008 Versailles State Park by Brian

4/25/2008 Shades State Park by Arhoun Willowwlof
Nature lovers dream - This park is a nature lovers dream. The trails are great and the usage of the park is low. There are some days you will not see a soul. Just you and nature. Peace and solitude.

4/21/2008 Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge by Bird Loving Family
Excellent Birding Paradise Kids Love It! - We love going here. The kids love it. There is a large visitors center with a nice short paved hiking trail that is great for kids and physically disabled people. There are tons of birds(great blue herons, green herons, egrets, wood ducks, mallards, coots, owls, hawks, teals, swallows, grebes, geese sparrows, warblers) and wildlife(deer, turtles, otters, muskrats, beavers). Picnic areas and hiking trails. There is a self guided auto tour and there are plenty of areas where cars are allowed unlike some NWR so you can view the birds easily from your car. The visitors center also has a movie and a place set up with bird feeders to view song birds etc. There is a migratory bird festival the second weekend in May that is also excellent with fun things to do for adults and kids!
