Witness the awe and power of this natural phenomenon, known to the locals as Thors Well. This massive hole embedded in the porous volcanic rock near the coast of central Oregon swells with sea water during high tides and drains below with immense speed. Formed over hundreds of years, this dangerous yet beautiful spectacle shows off the Pacific Oceans never-ending ability carve and shape the land.

Does Not Get Any Better Then This Stroll -
1/11/2012 Bear Valley National Wildlife Refuge by west county hawk watch.
epic - on your bucket list.... for sure.
Beautiful spot to see stuffed birds - Beldings squirrels all over the lawn, several interesting birds and waterfowl to spot around the area. Interesting old buildings constructed of local pink stone. Museum has the old(!) stuffed birds.
12/23/2011 Cape Lookout State Park by Randy Wagner
Have been coming here since I was akid. - My wife and I rented one of the new cabins in early September along with my Daughter and Grand Daughter. The cabin was very clean & cozy, and is situated among sitka spruce very close to the beach. This is a much quieter serene place than Cannon Beach, or Seaside, and it grows on you. It was hard to leave and return to the city! I highly recommend staying here.
12/16/2011 Devils Elbow State Park by Park host
Lighthouse still open - The park and lighthouse are still open for tours. Fabulous.
8/27/2011 Silver Falls State Park by Dan Wathen
Go in the Spring - One of the very best state parks anywhere. Great trails, lovely falls, and temperate rain forest type vegetation. We went in late summer and a couple of falls were pretty dry. Spring is the best time for waterfalls viewing.
Park temporarily closed - This park will be closed from August 15 to about Sept 30 due to renovations
8/20/2011 Floras Lake State Park by john
a rare gem for pristine coastline viewin - We hiked on a very nice trail out to blacklock point. The veiw from this grassy headland looking south is along an untouched beach that is unbelievable. NO Footprints.... remote. There is a good trail down the flank that accesses this beach. We also saw a pair of perigan(sp?) falcons by the bluffs and waterfall that is just to the south of blacklock point. We think that this has to be the area that a lot of Oregon Coast postcard pictures are taken from. Magical and serene. May it remain unchanged for generations of Oregonians and guests for years to come.
8/13/2011 Ainsworth State Park by r&l from oklahoma
great staff - very very helpful with great concerne for campers needs, park is very nice, easy to get to and easy to get in and out of
Best Campground Ever!!! - Such a beautiful and peaceful campground. Fun for the whole family! The yurts and camp sites are just perfect, and we visit this park every year!
Intended to give an EXCELLENT review but - We stayed in a Yurt at this park. Our entire trip home (1200 miles) I planned on reviewing this and each accomodation we stayed at. This would have received an excellent review. However, today we received a rather nasty letter accusing us of having violated yurt rules by having a dog in the yurt. We did not have a dog in the yurt or even in Oregon with us. The accusation and general tone of the letter was very insulting and unprofessional. I would suggest that if you choose to visit this park and stay in a yurt that you are prepared to receive your own nasty letter because if we did, anyone can. We will not return to this park on our future trips to Oregon.
6/14/2011 Beverly Beach State Park by Doug and Vickie
Beautiful campground and beach. - This was our first time to stay at Beverly Beach State Park. Very impressed at the cleanliness of park and its beautiful surroundings. Camp hosts were most helpful. We will be back again next year for sure. Thanks.
6/10/2011 Battle Mountain State Park by Barbara Halliday
Well-Kept Park - We were delighted to find this park in the middle of a wonderful Blue Mountain forest. The variety of trees in the park was amazing--especially the Larch.
5/27/2011 Emigrant Spring State Park by Cliff
- It is a wonderful little park. We stop there as often as possible. We have seen a bear there and deer. Can reservations be made?
5/27/2011 Willamette Mission State Park by Cayenne
Splended park for picincs - I have been there to camp before. It is a find for sure.
No cell reception - This is a very nice park. Heavily forested, well laid out. 2 sets of showers/toilets, one at each end of the park. Zero cell reception (the pay phone has been broken for over a year) and very difficult to get satellite TV reception due to the many trees. Park is well maintained as most Oregon parks are. The hiking trails are great, especially the one to the lighthouse.
4/17/2011 Cline Falls State Park by kline
- Excellent park.Fortunately axe weilding psycho cowboy season is mostly in the summer months. Hang your beer cooler from a tree to keep from attracting them. You should have no trouble.
4/15/2011 Devils Elbow State Park by Shawn and Angie
Anniversary spot--long ago - Each year my wife and I would stay overnight in the campground and celebrate our anniversary (Aug. 27th 1983) and grill New York strip steaks. Float wine in a submerged cooler in the creek. Night hikes along the nature trail. Wonderful spot.
Beautiful Campground - Nice, clean and beautifully maintained campground with sheltered RV spots and lovely beaches. Campground has great showers and a laundry plus nice trails for walking the dog. Walk to the beach is downhill but you can drive down to a spot very close to one of the beaches
Striking geology - This is a good place to stop and stretch your legs or have a picnic. Views of the river are breath- taking.
great all day outing - we have been taking our kids here for years now and it is great for little kids. They can take a nature walk find beaver sticks, go frog hunting, fishing, and feel like they went some place with out leaving the county!!!
-
Home - Can view the 3 arch rocks from my back deck, and its beautiful!!!!
Crater Lake National Park - Crater Lake National Park is the sixth oldest in the nation and the national park is one of the most visited attractions in Oregon and coveted. It is 180000 hectares of wonder and splendor. Visitors to the park to tell stories about it. http://www.wildlifeworld360.com/crater-lake-national-park.html
my favorite park - This is a very nicely located park close to alot of fun places to go , also injoy the smaller home like atmostphere of the park
Nice Beach - Nice beach for walks. Campsite are just a hop away. Take care making reservations and only get site close to beach. Others are right by a busy busy road.

Bring your ear plugs - This is a lovely State Park which is situated, unfortunately, very close to I84. Everything about the campground is very nice, except that it is also very noisy
8/21/2010 Willamette Stone State Park by Joe M.
Humble little park - Been here three times. Last time there were too many mosquitos.
8/21/2010 Memaloose State Park by Windswept
NEVER again - Might have potential IF you were in a camper, trailer or RV. However, we were in a tent, and the gale force winds were NOT fun. We were also on the A loop, and by the train tracks. There were at least 20 trains a day, and many at night (whistling and all). On a positive note, the playground was nice, and the camp hosts were friendly. We did leave a day early, and noticed many other people did not stay for their entire reservations :(
7/27/2010 The Cove Palisades State Park by Divalgr
Family favorite - We love this park! All of our friends and family look forward to this each year. E-loop is the spot.
7/18/2010 Bullards Beach State Park by Clare BC
A true Gem - and so well looked after - July 2010 - we stayed for 6 nights in one of the yurts, it was worth the trip down from Canada to stay in this well run site. It is a mile from the sand dune beach (almost deserted - it was very breezy!) which you can drive or better, bike to. Nice Safe area for the little ones too. Active Jnr Ranger group (great for the kids to meet one another). Very clean, washrooms tidy, hot water was hot and plentiful.
7/15/2010 Harris Beach State Park by Four Season Camper
Changed over the years - This was one of our favorite destinations. It now however has been surrounded by urban growth and noise. The northern tree buffer was removed allowing in industrial noise and housing development to north has tarnished the views. The beach, however, is still very nice. It is a very busy place. Great central location for visiting Oregon and California sites.
5/23/2010 Lake Owyhee State Park by Claude 05-23-10
Gem Stone Among the Rocks - Lake Owyhee as is now known. Is a Gem itself the area abounds with wildlife as noted and usually easily seen.
5/21/2010 Prineville Reservoir State Park by mickeyd
- first time on the reservoir, enjoyed the visit. plan on fishing it next week. clean place. friendly people at the store.
5/7/2010 Oswald West State Park by jacobsonfamily
It was our favorite Camping Spot - Our family loved camping at the park, with the road and cars some distance from the campground it was real camping. I hope they re-open the campground soon.
Incredible scene of the valley below! - Good place to picnic in the summer
4/12/2010 Sunset Bay State Park by anniescottage.org
Pet Friendly cove - Sunset Beach is defined on both sides by forest sitting atop high rock walls. When the tide is out, there are tide pools to explore. Dogs are welcome on a leash and families are comfortable here. There is a stream that feeds into the bay which is shallow and a great play area easy to supervise. Park includes sand volley ball court. Adjoining campground accessible by trail from the beach.
Where Eagles Soar - This is an amazing place to view Bald Eagles. In Jan and Feb Eagles spend the day in the flooded valley below, then in the evening they fly into the reserve. The further that you go up the valley, the more likely they will fly directly overhead as the topography funnels them into a natural channel as they return to their roosts. I have seen as many as 250 birds in a single evening. Often times they fly less than 150 ft overhead, you can hear their powerful wings cut through the air. Castings can be located at the base of many trees. If you love Americas Bird, this is the place to come. Best times are at daybreak and at dusk.
4/4/2010 Cape Blanco State Park by Go Navy
One of the best kept secrets in Oregon! - If you love the Oregon Coast... blustry days, long walks on the beach, amazing scenery, and oh yeah, lighthouses, then this is the place for you. My family visited a couple years ago and we were stunned by the natural beauty. We drove (our four wheel drive) right down to the beach, and walked along the waters edge as the sun sank into the great Pacific Ocean... One of the best memories of camping I have. The weather is typical Oregon Coastal weather. If you can get past that, you will not second guess your visit to this beautiful park!
3/21/2010 R A Booth Memorial State Park by C A Scott
Lovely place to stop - Stopped here for a break from the road and something to eat, discovered an idyllic little valley w/a sparkling creek and gorgeous trees like something out of a movie. This was early summer, and it was just a wonderful place to sit and eat and enjoy the fresh air -- quiet and truly beautiful. I remember it as one of my favorite spots on a weekend loop from Eugene to Lakeview and back some years ago. Will definitely stop by again when down thataway...
great location to every thing -
2/6/2010 Ainsworth State Park by w&f
A Great Place to Host - We have hosted at the Ainsworth CG before and we are looking forward to being there again in March and April 2010. Good staff to work with!
- We love this park well maintained and beautiful grounds and play area for the kids
12/20/2009 Illinois River Forks State Park by Whiteyward
Needs some trail development. - The Park does not provide enough good trails to enjoy all the river frontage. There is no trail back towards the Hwy overpass. No trail from the over pass into the park along the river, and the dead and burned trees should be knocked down for safety and to open up a large portion of the park. Auto access to the River area should be either eliminated or improved but the access now is a hazard to vehicles. The new pavilion is just wonderful but needs tables and a fire pit. The present lawn care and policing is minimal but seems to keep up in the off season. I just want the park to bring in a tractor and plow in a trail from the river overpass to the parking area along the N ForK. The water front is completely overgrown and the park has very little access to either fork. I recomend opening up access along both forks with brush clearing, Hack and stack, and tractor work. Knock down the big dead snags for safety and provide a real trail that connects both forks of the river.

11/3/2009 Humbug Mountain State Park by Forest Grove OR
A magical hike - Very beautiful and quiet. Nice viewing area at the top.
Was a camphost there - Could not even take it all in with 30 days there. The views were breath taking. Eagles crying and Turkey valtures and thousands of deer. We did not get out on to the lake but will if we get called back. A must see!!
10/10/2009 Lava River Caves State Park by Julie
Lava River Cave - South of Bend - The Lava River Cave south of Bend is not a state park, but part of the Deschutes National Forest - Newberry National Volcanic Monument. I have enjoyed working there for 3 years now as a ranger/interpreter with the Deschutes National Forest. A new enterance to the facility is being constructed by ODOT. Please, visit us next summer when the cave reopens.
very nice park, great staff, -
10/6/2009 Harris Beach State Park by gina
Love it! - Good campground with the most beautiful beach.
Most spritual and inspirational - A rare beauty.
9/16/2009 Lava River Caves State Park by Jim
Quick stop on US-97 south of Bend, OR - We were travelling south on Hwy 97 out of Bend when we encountered Newberry National Volcanic Monument - it had a nice visitor center and an extinct volcano very near-by which we took a quick look at. While in the Visitor Center they mentioned that there was an Oregon State Park across the road which was closed at that time of year, but the access to the lave tube caves was open. They warned us that we should be certain that we had at least two good flashlights per person before we ventured into the caves since there was no one who was going to come looking for us if we got lost in the dark of the cave. the second flashlight was to help us find our way OUT (after the first flashlight quit working). They also warned us to have warm jackets since the lava tubes are always quite cool. We found the parking lot near the entrance to the lava tubes and walked down the ramp and into the caves. We only planned to go a short distance into the cave, but it was fascinating as it opened up into a couple of large spaces. In all we were only in there for a couple of hours and probably went no more than a quarter of a mile, but it was worth the stop. As we were exiting the cave, a group of hardier (younger) sightseers came out about five minutes behind us, but we had never heard their boisterous voices until they emerged from the cave.
9/16/2009 Bullards Beach State Park by Ted and KAthy Rossman
our favorite park - wonderful people, wonderful fishing, gorgeous views, awesome sites...the facilities are clean and hot water lasts!
9/7/2009 Nehalem Bay State Park by RF
Home away.... - I have been travelling from Canada to this particular park for 18 years...at least one visit per year...needless to say, it is my favourite park and has become a family meeting place.....
Most Beatiful place in America - I visited the oregon Dunes in the spring of 2008 it was one of the best places ive ever been. I am very happy I had a chance to go there.
8/23/2009 Oswald West State Park by dinjas
One of my favorites. Currently closed - This park is currently closed to camping pending investigation of the condition of the trees in the area. Apparently one 11 ft. in diameter fell in the park over a couple of campsites in June 2008.
Beautiful park - I have hiked several sections of this park at various times. The scenery is breathtaking. I seldom see anyone else on the trail. It has some steep elevation changes, and a walking staff is helpful.
8/17/2009 Cape Lookout State Park by Angela G
The best place to camp on the beach! - We have been coming here since the early 90´s this is hands down the best place to camp its clean and family friendly! there are beautiful trails and hikes and the staff is very friendly!!!!
8/12/2009 Saddle Mountain State Park by nana
So many flowers - My daughter and I have long wanted to do this hike and when we finally did we were not disappointed. We hiked it in August and never before on any hike have I seen so many different wild flowers. The asters were my favorite. It was a great adventure
Excellent views of the volcanic eruption - There is a turn-out at the north and south Ona beach so you get the volcanic action from two perspectives.Lots of water fowl on the rocks.
Great memories - It really is beautiful.
Fun! :) - i went their a couple years ago and we swam in the creek on a fairly hot day and it was extreamly refreshing. i am now going back soon, i cant wait. this is a great park but i suggest some kind of water shoes for the creek and maybe an innertube? we saw people innertubing down the creek and it looked like a bunch of fun! the area is pretty and i bet its a good camping spot. anyways you should go here :)
7/20/2009 Collier State Park by Berginaperzina

great camp sites - a haven for those that crave privacy in camp and lack of crowding and children. first come, first served. abundance of deer, fox, weasel, bunnies, chipmunks and the like. many sites have folliage on 3 sides providing privacy and wind barriers.

My Favorite beach for agates - This beach is usually pretty free of people and we seem to always find nice agates, jasper and jade whenever we go at low tide. I love to walk this beach and picnic at the nice tables at the day use area. Restrooms are clean and well kept also.

5/14/2009 Humbug Mountain State Park by John from WA
fantastic mountain hike - very nice hike to the top of Humbug, used to be great views of the ocean up there.
Very nice family park - Spent two nights here in April. We had made reservations, but on arriving found we were in a loop with many many small kids - we told local ranger and he directed us to reservation center where folks told us just to cruise around and find a spot more to our liking, which we did. Finally found a more secluded spot where we spent two delightful nights. Lots to do here - we hiked to the beach to view an old shipwreck and also drove to Fort Stevens and viewed extremely interesting military base - been here over 100 years! I recommend this State Park - but be prepared for lots of kids on bikes and skateboards.
5/1/2009 South Beach State Park by Richard & Robin
Sleepy Hollow - We just spent a few days here and found it to be a great place to walk on the beach as well as the best sleep in any campground ever. We slept most of a two day period and loved it.

3/19/2009 Silver Falls State Park by Anomynous Girl
I have a question? - What kind of plant life is there in Silver Falls?
3/19/2009 Rooster Rock State Park by Shirley Gauthier
Clothing Optional Beach - The clothing optional beach at the East end of the park is absolutely fantastic. Oregon State Park employees work hard to provide a safe and friendly experience for those that recreate nude. Please be sure to report any inappropriate behaviors to the park personal. The American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR www.aanr.com) has adopted the nude beach through the Oregon State Park Adopt-A-Park program. This park is truly an Oregon treasure and well worth your time to visit and enjoy.

Umpqua & babytrees-what could be better! - The turquoise waters of the Umpqua reflect the tall trees along its bank at the Phipps Nursery, as tiny trees reach for the sun.
Beautiful Disc Golf Course - I spent a delicious afternoon with friends in light disc golf competition at McIver Park recently. We enjoyed every minute of the delicious greenery, lush trees, gorgeous Clackamas River views, and fresh air. Thanks for keeping this park alive and accessable!
Good camp sites and neat area - We hosted there several months. One of our favorite places.

10/4/2008 Cape Sebastian State Park by The Hammer
Stunning Views. Nice hike. - Located just south of Gold Beach, off of Route 101, the park offers views of the beaches of Gold Beach to the north, and Hunter Creek to the south. A nice hike from the south parking lot south will take you to stunning views of the Pacific and finally, down to the beach. Watch for some poison oak during the last few feet along the rope. The uphill hike back may be too steep for some, but can be avoided either with two cars, or skipping the last 1/3 of the hike. A must see for visitors to the area. More information at visitoregonsouthcoast.com

Have loved it here since the 1960s. - We really enjoy the location of this park, the woods and nearby beaches are lovely, the lakes great for all types of recreations and the dunes great for hiking and playing on. Our kids use to love to roll down the big dunes in the 1960s. Still a great place to go camping. It is a great Camp ground - Good campsites.Clean Restrooms, but could use a couple more stools, specially on the weekends. The Host people very helpful and nice.A great recycle system, very organized.
Too Much To List!!! - By far one of the most scenic of all man made reservoirs. Ship Rock is a must see. If you like to sight see via boat, take the trip up the Metolius arm of the lake, as far as your boat will possibly fit, and see what the bottom of the river looks like. A great park to visit - Visited this park when my son was just turning one, we are returning this year and he is now 6. We live in Washington but it is well worth the drive. Beautiful park and wonderful areas aroundit to visit.
Quiet and Serene - You can easily drive through this park if you have troubles walking or hiking.

one of my favorite - I have had the pleasure of going to Short Sands aka Oswaled West for more then 40 years it is one of the most beautiful parks in Oregon, the park has changed alot over the years, but it is still a spectacular park to visit and I hope it is still around for my grandchildrens children to visit. Places like this keep getting more commercialized every year lets hope it never happens to Short Sands aka Oswald West.

Family Favorite - We did this trail late one afternoon and had a cup of fresh coffee while watching the clouds roll in below us and fill in all the valleys leaving us and only a few peaks showing through. Then as the sun started setting and casting a colorful glow it became magical. The hike back down in the dark could have been better as we decended down into the cloud bank that looked so asesome before it was damp, wet and dark. But still to this day, my kids then 8 and 11, remember this as their most memorable and awesome trip ever and is a motivating memory to encourage them to get out again. Don’t miss it. If you don’t like the trip, I reccomend it again, give is second chance. It has great potential. It would be an early sunrise hike also I think. http://rmay4.wordpress.com/2008/05/20/saddle-mountain-state-park

Favorite family park for 40+ years! - A perfect family park. Walks up Spring Creek, going to the Logging Museum, fishing the Williamson & Spring. Take a day and go to Crater Lake. We have never tired of this park.

Fantastic Park - Did a pretty advanced hike up Misery Ridge and then back along Mesa Verde and the River trail. Absolutely gorgeous scenery especially at the summit. Encountered a rabbit, and two lizards along the way as far as wildlife is concered. Loved every minute of the time spent there on our day hike! Park upkeep was fantastic.
