Mississippi Parks Visitor Reviews
3/29/2012 4:35:05 AM DeSoto National Forest by Harry Whitehouse
Glad I read this - We are a pair of English seniors, who were looking for somewhere peaceful to visit on a drive from New Orleans to Monroeville in May. Thank goodness for good old US freedom of speech, we found these comments and know we should give this park a miss - the fear of a $125 fine for unknowingly breaking part regulations, and aggression from the rangers, would really spoil our trip. Is there a reason why it is against the law to have a civilised glass of wine with a picnic?

THANKS - THE HUNTING WAS GOOD THE PEOPLE IN THE AREA WERE ALL VERY NICE.

Real pretty! - The park it self is rich with its beautiful rock formations and history. The facilities on the other hand were not maintained and run down three comfort stations one working shower with cold water.

Do not feed the racoons - We always stay in one of the cabins and they are so beautiful. I have to say that the mattresses need replacing as they have gotten difficult to sleep on, but other than that this is such a great place to stay!!
Great Park - Great quit getta way..
2/11/2012 DeSoto National Forest by nick81283
fun family place - ive been to desoto national forest many times in the last 2 years. i really like the Airey lake spot in Stone county. there are multiple freshwater wells and restrooms. plenty of primitive campsites. the trails always are kept free of debris. never have had any problems with the rangers, but have only seen them one time. ive been around 100 times to Desoto. the driving trails are pretty good. i like off roading and the roads a graded well. there are plenty different trails to keep you busy all day and multiple days. they also have ATV and horse trails.

Not making the drive - I was planning a weekend trip, not anymore. Thanks for the heads up regarding the Park Rangers.
perfect peace and relaxation - friendly and helpful ranger, beautiful woods and very clean

Great primitive camping! - My fiancé and I stayed here last spring and are returning this spring for primitive camping. The tent sites are nice and far apart we stayed on a site that was water front. The fire pits are nice, but make sure to bring your own wood because all the good sticks and dry wood have already been pillaged! The nature trails are real nice but some of the branching harder trails are overgrown and had downed trees in the paths that appeared to have been there since Katrina. The lake and fishing were nice but need restocking. Overall a great experience and will return!

romance - enjoy the peace and quiet. Romance under the fireplace with my man, wow. have been back ywice since then, will be going again
12/30/2011 Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge by Buckshot
Nice Refuge - Has been known to have some terrible snakes. Be careful not to get turned around in there. May never be seen again. LOL
A MISSISSIPPI BARGAIN - A great retreat and affordable for all. Walking trails, wildlife, lakes and peaceful setting for the price of a hotel room.

Childhood Memories - My parents used to Bring us to this Park every Year. I have the Best memories playing Golf and Swimming in the Pool. I live in Denver now, I havent been to the park in 15 years, but I hope it stays open. It is a Great Place for Families to go and Have a good Time.....

A Real Nice Park! - We spent the day and had a great time. My husband and I read the paper and just sat in our lawn chairs enjoying the Beautiful day! While our boys fished and walked some trails. What A Day!!!! Thank You for a nice place to go!
One of my favorite Areas to Hunt. - I love the Wildlife in the area and just the experince of getting in the Wildlife and enjoying myself.
9/25/2011 Hugh White State Park by jlayton
Pool, heck- try the gorgeous beach! - Just spent the day watching my children playing on the gorgeous white sand beach and in the cool lake water. We found tracks of deer and other wildlife in the sand along the rocky bluff. Bald eagles flew overhead. People who want pools should stay in the city. When my family and I go outdoors, we want to see wildlife and enjoy real, living water with minnows, mussels and more. Like ALL state parks in MS, they are obviously strapped for money for maintenance and manpower, so quite writing snarky complaints and make a difference- volunteer your time, or get the politicians to allocate funds to our beautiful state parks.

If you love to fish.... - Very nice if you live close to spend the day. Clean and nice picnic area. Great place to fish!!

boundry lines - where can i find an updated forest map. i just started hunting near union church.i find it difficult to determine property lines
8/17/2011 Holmes County State Park by traveler
cabin - stayed at Holmes county state park, very dissapointed for the price, $80.00 for one night, 1 pan in the kitchen a skillet, wore out no pans of any kind, no dish washing liquid, and no television, a $40.00 cabin for $80.00, also building very run down, a lot of neglect you would think the state would do something about this...
- GREAT PARK BUT NEEDS SAND ON THE BEACH AND THE DUMPSTERS NEED TO BE MOVED. AND THEY NEED THE GARBBAG CANS BACK.ALSO THERE WERE TWO STRAY DOGS IN THE CAMPGROUND.
8/10/2011 Leroy Percy State Park by Spanky
Family Reunion - We had our reunion there 8-8-11 It was lovely. Kids had so much fun.
A GREAT PLACE TO HUNT -
Our Favorite State Park - We live in Louisiana and we frequent Percy Quin for camping. The campground is very peaceful and has loads of trees for shade. In the park is an excellent golf course which I plan to use in the near future. Stopping overnight or camping for a few days; this is the park for you.
7/22/2011 Buccaneer State Park by aruschel
Their closed to 2012 - I just called and they told me the waterpark is closed due to Katrinia damages. Fema is still dragging their feet. I have been there in the past and camped, and spent the day at the waterpark years ago. It was 1st class!
A Tashy Piece of Heaven - this is a fabulous place, full of wildlife and plants and just a peaceful place to be (once all the day trippers leave in the summer). the only problem is the trash that washes up on shore (you could bring home bags full on any trip) and there are tar balls. but to me, it is a heavenly escape of an overnight campout.
Beautiful - Me and my family just spent the 4th of July weekend here and it was beautiful. The kids had a great time campsites are very nice. I will visit this park again
- 24 hour access to park w/cars driving through at all hours. Closest bathhouse was old and in poor condition. Ants ruled the campsite and bathhouse. Did not see a park ranger patrol the campsite the entire time we were there. Pales in comparison to state parks in Tx, GA, or FL.
6/30/2011 Paul B Johnson State Park by Homer
This is our favorite. - We love everything about this park. We go several times every year. The 4th fireworks display are great!!!
6/19/2011 DeSoto National Forest by Lesley
Heads Up - Even though I am not thinking about breaking the parks rules, but I am very glad that reviews are made of places. I was thinking about spending my 1st wedding anniversary here and so happy that I checked this place out because running into Ranger Bolton would surely destroy my anniversary thanks guys.
6/8/2011 Tishomingo State Park by Teresa R
Peaceful place - We just love it. Camped there several times and did the canoes several time. Very peaceful.
Disappointed - I am so disappointed in the ratings that this National Forest has been given. I was looking for a half way point from Ohio and Texas and thought this would be a great place. We just wanted a quiet place for family to meet up. I guess I will continue my search.
6/6/2011 Hugh White State Park by patticlm
Needs A lot of work - We have been going to Hugh white for over 20 years. The cabins are run down, the swimming pool was closed last year, and will not re-open according to the maintencance person. There is nothing to do for kids unless you spend your days on the lake.
6/1/2011 DeSoto National Forest by Darryl Pry
Over zealous ranger - Sat. May 28th I was in violation of the law. I was drinking a beer in the Janice Landing National Forest Rec. Area. Two cars and three rangers decended on myself and the other two people in the campsite. We were sitting in the dark being very quiet, after all we are all senior citizens, enjoying a cold beer to celebrate my birthday. They went through our ice chests and made us dump out the beer. Yes I was in violation, but given the circumstances I think a stern warning and a good butt chewing would have been more than enough. The $125.00 ticket stings but not nearly as much as my being so stupid as to not at least disguise the container. The violation notice is barly readable but the officers initials are E. J. B with the rest of the name not readable. I think the Officers number is 1960.

Relaxing and Fun - I have enjoyed camping at Hugh White State park for 18 years now. It is a very relaxing place to come and spend time with friends and family. My children love the beach. I would recommend Hugh White State Park for a Vacation Spot, Family Reunion, or just a place to come to get away from home. It is my home away from home.
5/31/2011 Clarkco State Park by Don
Camping sites are very hard to enter-- - No turning room for larger campers----areas around pads are washed out and can be dangerous. Very hard to manuver campers larger than 18 ft.
Now has Rustic Cabins, RV Camping - We were out for a picnic on Memorial Day at Golden Memorial. Park now has two neat rustic cabins for rental. There were about 8 RV Spots with Decks overlooking the bluff over the lake all rented. Though there were a good many families enjoying the park today it was quite serene.Have not seen park in this good of condition in many many years of going out there.
5/27/2011 Buccaneer State Park by RTHIEM

Love the Lake - Great campground! We love camping there, just wished they would put SAND on the beach area!

5/19/2011 DeSoto National Forest by Shutterstop
Rein in your rude Park Ranger! - Let me just add to the comments here about Officer A. Bolton. I was recently scouting some locations near the bike trails for an upcoming photography shoot, when a Park Ranger Law Enforcement vehicle drove by, then rapidly turned around and stopped near my truck. The Park Ranger introduced himself and then asked what was the purpose of my visit to the National Forest...His demeanor and tone was demanding and investigative in nature. I simply told him I was looking around and enjoying the great outdoors. Finding no satisfaction in my answer he asked if he could search my truck. I asked him why and replied he could with a valid search warrant or suspection of a crime. He then got aggresive in his tone and starting reeling off a bunch of BS about implied consent, and threatened my detention or arrest. I asked if he was finished and that I was leaving, and if he felt that it was necessary to detain me he better go ahead and do that. I got into my vehicle and told him that this incident will be reported to the National Forest Admin. I also informed him of my law enforcement background and my rights as a citizen. I wished him a good day, rolled up my window and drove off. By looking at this forum I can see that Officer Bolton has made quite an impression on the owners of Desoto National Forest, that would be the American public and also the same people who write his paycheck.
park not closing - cossar state park will not close we are open and going to stay open.
5/5/2011 Clarkco State Park by Sheneka
Great Family Outting or Reunion - We recently visited Clarkco State Park for a family reunion and it was great. The pavillions were large and close to the water and playground. Everyone enjoyed themselves. The restrooms could have been cleaner.

Relocation stay - My husband Is in the navy. We just got stationed here. While we were waiting to close on our house we lived at percy quin for 21 days. Great place and very animal and Kid friendly. Would recommend to anyone.Needs some litter control. Dirty water banks

OUR FAVORITE PARK EVER - We have been camping at this park for 15 years. Our children were raised in this park. Now our oldest daughter wants to be married at the park.It would be a great lost to all if this park is closed.
4/4/2011 DeSoto National Forest by BradinFairhope
Beware of Rogue NF Enforcement Officer! - Our group just had a horrible experience with a ranger at the Big Biloxi campground. Officer A. Bolton came into the park on Saturday evening and systematically swept throught the park looking through vehicles and tents and making all campers open their coolers looking for alcohol. Anyone caught with alcohol was made to pour it out and was given a $125 ticket. We were all treated like common criminals, and I have never seen such a look of hatred coming from a law enforcement officer before. Extremely unprofessional and abusive - even though we were extremely polite and cooperative. I will never step foot in Desoto National Forest again unless they do something about this guy. We wondered why this great-looking park was almost empty on a beautiful spring weekend. The camp host confirmed that the guy is a menace and will ticket campers for the most minor offenses - such as parking a car or staking a tent the least bit off the designated areas.

This Park Needs Some TLC !! - Where is the pride in stewardship ? The roads need work, no bathrooms ..(Bushes ?) the one outhouse is terriable,no running water..
3/22/2011 DeSoto National Forest by Gina
Big Foot Horse Trails - Great riding in South Mississippi. Well maintained and a wonderful area. The hunters make it very dangerous during hunting season. Please ban hunting in the recreational area for riding, hiking and camping. Just a small portion of the whole area and hunters can have the rest. Thank you.
beautiful - I admit i hav not been to many places, but as a fan of hiking and walking i loved it.the scenery often changes from beach to forest to a small waterfall coming out of the rocks.it has never been too loud or crowded.i see it as a friendly escape to take it easy or push yourself with some excitement
3/19/2011 Holmes County State Park by Dickmfield
Neglected - Nice setting but not maintained. Restrooms tired, trash on ground, trails not maintained. Tired looking
3/17/2011 Clarkco State Park by hopeless
restless - Only complaints are TV reception and the beds are not comfortable at all
3/16/2011 Clarkco State Park by Fun Family
Great time in 2010 - Family stayed in 2 cabins. Enjoyed being close together for the weekend. Enjoyed the fishing, but lake needs restocking. The cabins could use some raking around the doors so we could see any snakes. We did see 1 around our cabin the day we were leaving. Hopefully we will be returning this year for another fun weekend of fishing and just good old family togetherness.
3/12/2011 Cossar State Park by concerned
Love this Park - I have lived in Oakland for 35 years. I have spent all my life going to Cossar Park. If it closes it will be like loosing a part of my childhood. I also take my children there now. I pray for it to stay open and continue serving our community.
3/1/2011 Clarkco State Park by Allen - Stonewall, MS
Exciting Family Fun and Entertainment - great little get-a-way just a few miles down the road. Great place to take your family for food, fun, and alittle R & R. We have stayed in both the cabins and pulled the camper and have had wonderful experiences everytime. so proud we have a place like this in clarke county mississippi. Also if this park is full I also reccomend Archusa Creek Water Park as well. both of these location have beautiful views and nature the whole family can enjoy.

Great Family Fun - For the past three years, we have lodged at Roosevelt State Park in a cabin while fishing at Ross Barnett in Jackson. The park is a fantastic getaway that has all the feelings of home. We enjoyed every part of the stay. We would definately recommend Roosevelt to anyone in the area! Thanks for all the good times!

my favorite park - my first visit was last year in march 2010 i enjoyed it so much i went back again with my kids in july of that same year and i will definitely be going back this year had such a great time
2/2/2011 Cossar State Park by Tammy
Great place for family reunion - We held out family reunion here for the 1st time in 2010 and plan to have our 2011 reunion here as long as the park stays open. It is an excellent place for our reunion as several family members come from out of town and the cabins are great for us to rent, gather, and visit. The pavillion by the pool is plenty big enough for all. The cabins have the basics for cooking and are better than a hotel room for about the same price.
2/1/2011 Shepard State Park by ellie Phont
best place for frog legs - we were able to gig for frogs and it was awesome. I ate so many frog lets kermit thought he was next! We were told that camping nude wasnt approved but i think the yogi ranger dude was jealous. we were able to go streaking and skinny dipping every night without issue though! going back in two weeks for some fun. Maybe that ranger in the nine west boots would like to swim?
1/31/2011 Tishomingo State Park by Nick and Debbie
Spent Honeymoon There - My husband and I spent our honeymoon there in Dec. 1975. We were the only people in the park. We had Cabin 6 (rustic) and when we got there, a fire had been started and the mood was out of this world. We took our children back when they were young and we had a ball! I wanna go back!

Family Memories - My family and extended families have been having our mini-reunion at Lake Lowndes now for the last 3 years. We gather from Indiana, Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi to spend a few days with local relatives and renew the ties that bind. Fish, bike, walk, run, relax, we do it all and love it. The tradition will continue this year to add to our memories.
1/10/2011 Clarkco State Park by Andi Chauvin
One or our favorite parks - We have been meeting our Georgia friends at this state park for several years and have had wonderful experiences! We are headed here for MLK weekend and are looking forward to another spectacular time!
We love this place! - Tishomingo is our favorite place to go when we need a nature fix. The cabins are wonderful, the staff is knowledgeable and helpful, the park itself is paradise. If we could live here, we would.

WARNING: Ranger on patrol! - Be careful in DeSoto NF! There is an overzealous Ranger on patrol. If you accidentally drive down the wrong dirt road, there is a $275 fine!!! This ranger is rude, unprofessional, and would ticket his own grandmother. Enter DeSoto National Forest at your own risk.

One of the best parks in Mississippi - I have camped all over several different states and George P Cossar is one of the BEST that I have been to. It is by far one of the top 3 in Mississippi. I was devistatd when I heard that this park may close. Please keep this park open for all of the avid disk golf players as well as for all of the generations to come.It is beautiful and well maintained.
Love this special place - I have stayed here many, many times. I always leave happy and thankful I got to be in such a beautiful, special place. Keep Cossar State Park.
Awesom - My family and I have been to several of the MS state parks and this one is very nice. It is so quite. We love visiting in the fall, when the leaves are turning.

GREAT CAMPING - I took my 9 year old granddaughter and 7 year old grandson tent camping Memorial week-end 2010. The park was clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The camp sites offer a degree of privacy and the trails are beautiful. We will be going back!
10/23/2010 Paul B Johnson State Park by The Ellis Family
Fabulous Camp Sites & scenery - We stayed 2 nights this past week and found all of the campsites to be the best that we have ever seen. We have camped in the DC area all the way west to the Grand Canyon& Mohave Desert and these are the best sites and most affordable. The facilities were clean and well maintained. Keep up the good work all you guys @ Paul Johnson State Park.
7th grade class trip - I went on my 7th grade class trip and it was incredible! I never wanted to leave! The only thing was that the bathrooms in my cabin were creepy and the mirrors were like fun house mirrors. But PQ was sooooo awesome!
Sure to Return - My wife and I just spent 3 days here and it was amazing. The fishing was fairly good and the wildlife was very abundant. Bring your camera you will need it.
10/12/2010 Golden Memorial State Park by Saltydude
Very Peaceful - We really enjoyed this park. Very well maintained, lots of fire wood even though we were in a fire ban this fall due to lack of rain. Lots of trails, park benches everywhere on the walking trails and around the lake. There is an aboundence of wildlife. The park ranger is very hospitible and helpful.

One of our favorite RV parks! - Even though it rained most of the time we were there, the park was very relaxing with a beautiful view of the lake. Bring your bicycles! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and have added this as the number one state park on our camping list!

- I hiked the Black Creek Trail on 7/31/2010. In many areas it was totally overgrown by tall weed, 5 feet + high. Most annoying were the thousands of long thorny blackberry (?) canes that tore on my arms and clothing. From the parking area near Janice Landing I followed the old wood road and tried to locate the spot where the trail proper crosses to follow the river. I was not successful. I saw no white markers on trees. Further on along the wood road I came to the second trail crossing -marked by white blazes- where the trail crosses and enters the uplands. Here the hight of the weeds were not as bad and the trail was not as wet and swampy as often is the case. On the way back I followed the trail along the river. Eventually I had to turn back to the wood road, because a deep wash was difficult to ford. When I hiked here in the middle of May, some trees had fallen over which I used as a crossing. I found a densely shaded area overlooking a bend in the river and enjoyed a nice lunch on this rather hot day.
Great location - My family and I went last year in October, and it was wonderful. Outstanding location, beautiful scenery, right on the lake. Overall it was great. Some posters have complained about the lack of tv reception, etc. To which I would say, you are at a state park; get outside and enjoy the outdoors.

Family Favorite - We are only 35 minutes away but we came to the park at least 5 or 6 times in the summer. We loved it and enjoyed all the options you guys had. Beach, crabing, frisbee golf, fishing, pool, waterpark and just the nature of the park. Great family fun place. Hope to see this park open soon.

The worst experience of my life - My family and I went to Mississippi for a family reunion. We were staying in the cabins since our relatives invited us. When we arrived there were dead centipedes in both bathrooms. Cabins were in need of major updates. My family members ended up sleeping in chairs, on the couch, and even in the vehicles. When we tried to get our money back they only gave us a voucher like someone would want to come back. this experience has given me a new look at the state of MS.
Worst experience ever! - We thought we were in for a great weekend until we got into the cabin. There were dead bugs everywhere and it smelt like mold and filth. In the other cabin there were LIVE centipedes everywhere: In the shower, on the walls, all over the floor, IN THE BED. We were required to make a 3 day MINIMUM reservation and only stayed one day and left! The TV had no channels whatsoever. The beds were had, the comforters had tears in them. There was nothing pleasant about this experience. Oh yeah AND NO REFUND.
family reunion - it was my best family reuinion all my life when i live California I Misss percy quin alot

Our favorite anniversary getaway always - Last year my husband and I really enjoyed our stay so much that we decided to book another stay this year. The fishing was great, the room was clean and peaceful. We will try and visit every year now that we know this is such a great place.
Great Place - We live in Iuka and have a boat at the Park our Grandchildren love to go to the Park. Great staff! Country Squire in Iuka is a great place to eat!
7/10/2010 Tishomingo State Park by Roger Foster
Trail Runner - I enjoyed the trails however, the 6.5 miles covered was littered with plastic bottles, wrappers and all sorts of debris. It is unfortunate that people do this....perhaps some trash recepticals along the trails would help....or even some PLEASE HELP KEEP OUR PARK CLEAN BY PICKING UP AFTER YOURSELF(S)

Its True!!!!!!!!!! - Went for a tour through the park today and the back section and the area across from the old camp store were full with Fourth of July campers. Cant wait to plan my trip
Great asset, but has been neglected. - Great activities, but lake is very low & overall has not been maintained. Kind of sad to see such a great park being neglected.
family favorite for many years - love the privacy and love the views
7/2/2010 Clarkco State Park by Ms. Disappointed
Not What I Expected - This was not a good experience for me. The TV only had 5 channel(2 were the same, 1 was cartoon network, and others had poor signal). Pots were dirty. Shower curtain and bath towels smell AWFUL. Pillows/bed were wore out & very uncomfortable. The chairs in cabin were dirty & wore out. The cabin need a SERIOUS upgrade & renovatation. I reserved the cabin for 2 nights but stayed 1 night. I went to nearest hotel for comfort. DID NOT GET MONEY BACK>>

6/25/2010 J P Coleman State Park by Joe
Cabins - We recently stayed three nights at JP Colemans cabins and the cabins were in terrible condition. The entire facility was very dark, the shower door was broken and would not close, and the bathroom sink did not have a stopper in the drain. These cabins need a major renovation before my family stay there again.

Bible Camp - well i am glad i am going to bible camp here i can show how much i learned!the creeks name is bear creek, the park takes name after the leader chickasaw.
- The disc golf course is back from what a couple of friends have said. Watch out for the horseflies.
Disappointing Visit - We were considering camping at the campground and were in the area, so we decided to check it out before bringing the camper.WE WERE CHARGED JUST TO ENTER THE PARK FOR 10 MINUTES TO DRIVE THROUGH THE CAMPGROUND!!!...This is the first park ever to charge for a peek at the campground. We will never camp here... the lake was not much of a lake either...
Disc Golf Is Back - Played the disc golf course this weekend and had a great time! The rest rooms are brand new and so is the kids playground!
6/14/2010 Hugh White State Park by David
Our favorite park - My second time this year renting a cabin at Hugh White. Best place for the money you can find. We are planning on renting a cabin for a week vacation every 90 days, what that tell you about the park. Excellent for kids of all ages.
6/14/2010 Clarkco State Park by unsatisfied visitor
thought it was a good park - took my family there last year an had a pretty good time but this year was not so great the trip started off ok but then went south after not catching but 1 fish in 2 days. lake might need to be restocked. the disc golf trails were so grew up you couldnt walk down them hardley. around the cabins were grew up also. the cabins are nice but could use a few things like maybe more than one t.v. maybe cable an some softer beds,o an did i mention getting dusted out by somebody mowing the dirt in front of our cabin completely covered the inside of my truck. i mean wheres the comin curtisy o an one last thing there needs to be some signs put up along the lake for no pets alowed in the water or swimming area period thanks an have a nice day...

6/10/2010 Clarkco State Park by Kendra
We loved this park!!! - We brought our pop up and stayed one night here on our way from TX to TN. Our three kids loved the splash pad and great playgrounds at the front of the park, as well as the small playground and swim area in the lake that were right behind our campsite#7. The lake stays pretty calm since larger motors are not allowed to run on the small lake. The park maintenance staff was SOOOO nice! The premium sites sit right on the water with about 100ft of land between you. The sites are all well shaded and spaced apart pretty well. We liked this park so much we decided to stop here on our way back to TX as well even though we had planned to try to get further on the first day. Next year we will be having our TN friends meet us here so we can stay the full week!!!

my favorite park for over 35 years - drove by the camp ground on may 11,2010. the park is open though some sites are closed beacuse they got approval from fema to replace the sewage pipes in the four front loops. spoke to Stew the park ranger. he says the final phase has started, which is fixing the wave pool, the game room, and camp store. they should be completed in may of 2011.

Its about 30 mins from our home and love the fact that the park is family oriented, we have never had a problem with things being taken or partying people. We are planning on camping there for spring break. We hope to retire at the campground when that time comes. We have experienced the motel the cabins primative, and now Rv camping there. Love it!!! Keep up the good work.

Our favorite park. PLEASE REOPEN SOON!! -
Best Camping Trip - My family and myself rented a cabin out at the state park it was great.. very clean and peacefull, me and my husband was ready to move in out there when we saw the cabin and the view we had from it.. it was the best camping trip we have had in a long time and we will be doing it again very soon just sorry we had to cut our trip short.
2/17/2010 Clarkco State Park by George McLaughlin
A wonderful experience - We had a terrific time at this park! The surroundings are so peaceful and beautiful. Our cabin (No. 1) is tucked away in the corner of the lake and there was absolutely nothing that distracted us from the beautiful scenery and the chance to enjoy our stay. My ONLY gripe is that the bathroom seems to have been built for WWII turret gunners! Too tight of a space! :) I would recommend this park to any of my friends, and will probably do so!

TOP 10 - PARK TO REOPEN IN APRIL OR MAY 2010
I want to come back - I miss this park. It has too many memories of my childhood. My parents would take me and my other siblings every summer to go camping at buccaneer before hurricane Katrina. It is such a great family park. I hope they will reopen the park again soon. So, please let us know when you would reopen the park. We hope this summer of 2010 would be nice.
2/2/2010 Buccaneer State Park by George
Opening Dates - I Just got off the phone with Department of Parks and the guy I talked to said they are hopping for a March, April or May 2010 opening for the campground only.
Beautiful Park - We spent 2 days here in January, 2010. It was quiet, beautiful and very restful. The roads are a bit small and hard to navigate at night and some of the sites would be difficult for a large rig. We stayed at number 16 and had our rv been any larger (23 foot), the tree that leaned over the road would have made the site inaccessible. Had power problems in the middle of the night and could find no-one to help us so we had to cut our trip short. The bathhouse is tiny and worn but serviceable. We will definitely be going back again.

Great Family Reunion - We had a great family reunion Labor Day 2009. Wish the piers were kept up, but other than that we totally enjoyed the place. Seven sisters and their families were able to share and listen to stories about their childhood trips to Percy Quin every spring and fall!
12/22/2009 Tishomingo State Park by Nick Harrell
Perfect for a weekend getaway! - I live in Texas now, but one of my favorite childhood memories is how my family took weekend mini-vacations to Tishomingo State Park. The park was always peaceful and quiet and never felt crowded. In reading these posts, I could not agree more in praise of this Mississippi Treasure. All who visit will have the opportunity to make favorite memories for themselves.
Great park - We go every year. I have a question: Does the tv cable in the cabins pickup FOX on Sundays for Saints games?

10/13/2009 Okatibbee State Wildlife Area by Lamar McKenzie
Crappie Capitol of East Central Miss. - Adjacent to Okatibbee Reservoir, the Wildlife area is really beautiful. Multiple bird species as well as Alligators are commonplace. There are multiple boatramps and camping around the reservoir with many day use areas. The main purpose is flood control so fishing can be tough. But, in the spring time, Crappie fishing is outstanding!!!

My Favorite Place To Go - The first time I ever went to this wonderful park, I fell in love with it. I have been going there off and on for years. My family and I have rented the lodge several years in a row for a get together. Everyone just loves it here. I have been camping for up to a week at a time. It is one of the most peaceful, quietest, and beautiful places to go. I encourage anyone who has never been there, to go. You will not find a better place to be when you need peace and quiet. Or just want to get away from everything. This is definately the place to be.

Fun with the grandkids - We have been bringing our 4 grandchildren to Clarcko every May for 5 years. We did skip 1 year and they were very disapointed. We love to bike around the park, hike the trails & fish. The addition of the water park is great! Everyone has always been so friendly and helpful. We look forward to the quality time with the grandkids every year.

Very beautiful and scenic - We went camping in the newer camp ground,it was a wonderful experience, except there were no litter barrels or dumpsters to be found, we looked all over the park and finally located one. I personally think that a lack of litter barrels, encourage people to litter.
Great park and its very clean. - The folks that work at this park are great. Helped us alot when my husband became sick and we had to leave our camper at the park. We are for sure going back.

Our favorite park - We have be coming here for years. I come and bring my grand sons and we feel safe and it is clean, quiet. The only thing I have been disappointed in is Katrina messed up the walking trail, but it was better last year, we are on our way back in 2 wks and I can hardly wait.
7/19/2009 Leroy Percy State Park by Charlene Elizabeth Jones
Does it get any better than this? - Spanish moss hanging from the huge oaks, cypress knees in Alligator Lake (and yes, there really ARE alligators there inside the enclosure!), cabins and a lodge that has been rebuilt like the Phoenix when destroyed by fire....The water in the swimming pool was fed from an artesian well and was a deep green. This is one of the most beautiful places on earth and my heart yearns to return. The Great Delta Homecoming is happening this October at Leroy Percy! See ya there!

- Not one of our favorite places. Kids were bored. Make sure you wear an old bathing suit when swimming in the lake or it will turn your bathing suit brown. If you would like to swim in a pool you have to pay to do that. Not a kid friendly park. Never going back!!

6/13/2009 Roosevelt State Park by Keith
Tent campers beware. - If you make your reservation online with ReserveAmerica.com the information is incorrect. Their site states each camp site has a tent pad. This is almost 100% wrong. There are some places you could put a tent but you better go find them before you book. Someone may advise you to set up your tent on the concrete pad. There are two problems with this. 1. The pads are not level for a tent. You will need to put bricks under your cot legs. 2. It takes a real man to drive those tent pegs into the concrete.

6/2/2009 Roosevelt State Park by Robert H Brown
Good but could be Great - My family and I spend weeks at Roosevelt every year. The staff is very friendly and the park is beautifull. If they would just update the bathrooms, beach area and build a few piers for boats/fishing this would be the best park in the state. The old deer habitat would be a perfect place for a play area for campers instead of having to drive over to the opposite side of the lake.

Went and will be back - We went to Roosevelt last July. WE had such fun! WE stayed four nights and wished we could stay longer. WE fished, fed the dicks and crazy geese, met our neighbors, and RELAXED. The cabin was great. We want a bigger one next time!
5/12/2009 Clarkco State Park by DH
Nice park..... horrible attendents - This example of horrible customer service will keep me from ever visiting again. From being treated like a criminal to a broken tv that no one would fix and spoiled food in the trash can in front of the cabin which no one emptied until we left. The first getaway from our kids turned out to be extremely disappointing due to the pure lack of caring about the people in the park.

One of Our Favorite State Parks - We used to go to Buccaneer in the winter for a stay and absolutely loved it. Will be so glad to have it back.

One of our favorite parks - It is sad to know the state if Mississippi havs not moved on the very fast! Buccaneer was the number ones state park for years and years. I think the people in Hancock County should have some say about the park, like what they would like to have in the park and things that might help it come back faster. I think they should let you have Golf Carts in the park also.

3/6/2009 Hugh White State Park by James Briscoe
Truly one of the best state parks in MS - This state park has a beautiful white sand beach on Grenada Reservoir ideal for sun-worshipers and water-skiers alike... Plenty of picnic areas, primitive camping grounds, nicely-furnished and reasonably-priced cabins for weekend stay-overs, and a community center ideal for family reunions... Truly one of the best state parks in Mississippi.
3/5/2009 J P Coleman State Park by The Roberts Family Bartlett,TN
Great Park for Rvers - We have stayed there several times and we always have a great time. The last time we stayed there we were right on the water. One of the best fishing experiences I have ever had. My two year old and my wife caught several fish which is remarkable in itself. Anyway We love this place and can not wait to get back there.
OUR FAVORITE PLACE TO CAMP -
3/4/2009 Buccaneer State Park by dollarcorn (buck an ear)
A great weekend escape - Was a great weekend place to bring the kids. With recession on, Mississippi needs to get moving with its re-opening. It would be an economical way for people to spend quality time with their kids.
3/4/2009 Percy Quin State Park by Susan B.
Our favorite! - We travel quite a lot in our RV and love to visit new and different places. Our favorite, however, is Percy Quin. It is beautiful, clean and very peaceful and the rates are reasonable.

2/16/2009 Tishomingo State Park by Smith Family
A Great Family Get Away - We began having our family reunion here in June 1984. We have only missed 3 years during that time. We rent all of the family cabins and we have a great time. We love canoeing, hiking, fishing and swimming in Bear Creek. We are looking forward to the new pool.
2/10/2009 J P Coleman State Park by SlimBillyJimBob
Nice place to vist and live.. - Well I can attest to all the great reviews I grew up within a mile of the park and have family members who work and still work there, The staff is and always has always been top of the line,so if you are ever in the area for the day or in for along stay just travel down to J.P. Coleman and you will see its definitely one of the jewels of N.E. Ms. if not the whole state.
Great Place - Extremely beautiful place with rolling hills, lake and relatively spread out camp sites. Staff very helpful. Restroom facilities are very clean but maybe need a few more. Some camp site are a bit far from restrooms. The whole park is very clean and serene. Not surprisingly busy in the middle of winter. There is some evidence of permanent dwelling despite the printed regulations. It seems that most dog owners are responsible as very little evidence of droppings to see. Water and electric seemed to work well. I will definitely be coming back and probably with the grandkids. Do bring a bike. A great place to ride.
1/25/2009 Gulf Islands National Seashore by Peggy
gulf islands national seashores - I love it, the bath houses really do need some updates, they are very cold, and the showers and stools could you some upgrades.

12/11/2008 Roosevelt State Park by Bryson Haden
Christmas Home - My family and I spend a week every Christmas at Roosevelt. We have always enjoyed not only the park but the staff. We have become quite familiar with the park and what it offers. It is kept up very well and it has one of the most challenging disc golf courses around. Keep up the good work see you in about three weeks.
12/8/2008 Tishomingo State Park by Zoo Biologist
MS Jewel - Tishomingo State Park is definitely the jewel of the MS state parks. It is unlike any other place in the state. You truly feel like you are in the southern Appalachians- the Smoky Mountains of east TN and western NC. My favorite state park in the country.
12/3/2008 Paul B Johnson State Park by Irish Firefighter
Great for Families! - Excellent grounds with well maintained facilities. Our visit coincided with a remodeling of the visitor center/recreation rooms, so we were not able to use those. Primitive area (where we camped) was small, but we found a nice nook in which to setup. The lake was beautiful with flocks of geese flying in all morning. Very clean park and the bathhouses were updated, very well maintained and toasty warm.
11/20/2008 Percy Quin State Park by R. Boyd
Our Favorite Campground! - We have been camping for years, and Percy Quin is our favorite. There we enjoy water sports, swimming, and fishing. The campground is well-maintained, and the staff is very friendly.
11/1/2008 Tishomingo State Park by Mike from Illinois
Pretty and Clean - Just stopped to tent camp 1 night while going down the Natchez Trace Parkway. Staff was awesome, let me go pick a primitive tent site and pay in the morning. Very nice showers/bathrooms. The short trail over the swinging bridge and up into the rocks was perfect.
had a really visit the last time -
9/13/2008 Tishomingo State Park by Betty

8/20/2008 Wall Doxey State Park by Michael
Disc Golfers will love it. - This park has 2 18-hole quality disc golf courses: Spring Creek and Turkey Hollow. Turkey Hollow is a bit more physically demanding in terms of the walk, but is not bad overall. Tournaments are hosted every few months, so the courses are known and well-respected in the area. BRING BUG SPRAY, THOUGH!!!! They also have a pro shop with a wide variety of discs and accessories (mainly Innova). It is well worth the $3 vehicle fee for park access to play these 2 courses.
8/20/2008 Carver Point State Park by gennie jones
our best fishing place its great - we go two times a year and have great time. best fishing place around
8/19/2008 Tishomingo State Park by Louisiana
Abundant wildlife - The park is clean and safe for human visitors as well as consciously agressive in providing for the welfare of nature.
Civil War Paradise - I have gone to this park every year since I was little I love this park. It has so much to offer when you are there. It is a 1850 plantation. It has every aspect of the real thing and every one there is so nice. During Christmas time they have a candle lit night where you go and see the park. It is so amazing. It is a must see if you come to this part of Mississippi. Right now it is closed though.
Better than expected - Beautiful lake, beautiful vegetation, very helpful rangers, swimming area, gate house with billiard hall/games and porch with swings and chairs, cabins with lake views. Will return!
7/24/2008 Percy Quin State Park by Baseball 3
My favorite park in Mississippi - This is my favorite. The staff is so nice. We dont think the lake has fish becasue we have never been able to catch anything. However we still love everything else about this park.

7/7/2008 Clarkco State Park by Joanna Posey
Wonderful park! - This was our first visit to Clarkco State Park. We loved it. The cabins we rented were roomy, well furnished and clean. The park was quiet, though every cabin was full and all rv hookups were full as well. The kids enjoyed riding bikes, fishing and the splash park was perfect for cooling down. We will definately be coming back!

One of our favorite parks - Excellent facilities. Rangers are very courteous and helpful. Great lake and fishing.
Great Park - Wonderful Private Cottage - My husband and I rented an adorable little private cabin (www.beautyinabush.com)-- not affiliated with Percy Quin but allows you access to all the amenities offered by Percy Quin, a well-kept Park. They both get Five Stars from us.

Okhissa Lake - The Homochitto National Forest has a new 1,100 acre lake called Okhissa Lake. The lake was co-designed by Bill Dance, is over 80 feet deep in areas, allows pleasure boating and swimming. Find more information about this great lake at www.okhissalake.com.

Family atmosphere - This is a great place to camp with family and friends. I have been camping here for 23 years.
6/19/2008 Roosevelt State Park by J Lee, Friends, and Family
Great Time - We had a wonderful experience in both the cabins and primitive camping areas in January of 2008. The cabins were fine, all appliances were in good working order and the place was very clean. Cabins are not ment to be 5 star accomidations, but a hotel is also available if you need something less rustic. All the staff and rangers were very kind and helpful. Jackson is a short drive (20 mins) and you can eat dinner, see a movie, or visit Bass Pro. We loved it and plan to go back next winter.
Beautiful forest!!! - Perfect for day packing and viewing nature. Maintained beautiflly. We stayed at a local lodge and it was great. www.hollybluffhilton.com

My favorite close to home - I live around the park and have been going since I was a little girl. It is a nice serene place to visit, see the alligators, nice cabins to rent, and good fishing! If you go, you must get a hamburger from the grill, it is my favorite! It beats any hamburger I have eaten anywhere else in the world!
family camping - A great place to spend time with family and friends with no interruptions from the world. Fun for kids of all ages!
a peacefull getaway - i love going to tishomingo and enjoying the beauty GOD gave us.
Even our grandkids love it - We have been visiting this park when we could for about 35 years, and our kids and now our grandkids have very happy memories of this. We always rent a cabin and stay as long as we can get away.

5/4/2008 Tishomingo State Park by Mickey and Pat
our favorite park - Tishomingo is a 6 hour drive for us but the beauty of the park makes it all worth the drive. Every chance we get,we pack up and head north for relaxation. The rustic cabins and the beauty of the gently rolling hills are unequaled any where else in MS. I would love to spend every weekend at tishomingo.
4/29/2008 Tishomingo State Park by Dr. Ron M. Buck
One of our favorite places - For almost twenty years my wife and I, along with our children (when they were younger) have made trips to stay in one of the cabins at Tishomingo State Park. We love it--from the quiet beauty of the woods to the hiking trails to the canoeing, we love everything about Tishomingo. It is one of the most restful, serene places I have ever been.
Worst cabins - I took pictures last year inside our cabin. It is a shame that the cabins have run down so bad and are not fixed. There are holes in ceilings, floors need to be fixed, and a host of other problems. My family comes every year and every year the cabins are worse. When are you going to fix them?
