Great walking park - Nice 2 mile paved walking trail along side the lake and through pine woods, quiet and scenic
9/12/2011 Minute Man National Historical Park by Cynthia Ruark
Memory for all who fell here - A lovely tranquil place to honor what happened here. Appreciated the British flags and quotation for those fallen of the other side. Wish other communities, Lexington, VA, could honor their past with flags of both sides.
9/2/2011 Brimfield State Forest by Sunsetco
Park is closed for 2011 - I stopped at this park and found it closed. The 2011 Tornado that struck this area shredded a large swath of forest just down the road from the entrance to this park. Hopefully it will reopen next year.

Wonderful serene place - First visit up to the Cape. Beautiful and serene. We participated in a number of Ranger led talks/activities and found them most informative. Keep up the good work protecting our natural resources. We need pros like you to keep our land/sea for future generations to enjoy. God Bless You.
7/15/2011 Savoy Mountain State Forest by Jfallon
Great For Families - This is a great place for families. It is quiet and clean with huge open spaces for the kids to play. The two ponds are nice.
Dirty - The area around the rock was dirty and the rock was covered in graffiti.

BELIEVE - YOU HAVE TO SEE IT TO BELIEVE IT
4/27/2011 Lowell-Dracut State Forest by Walker
Be Aware - I was walking through the state forest from Dracuts, Gumpus Road and notice several tents set up there, and people living there. I later found coming out from the forest on the Lowell end that the owners of homes along the forest are aware of the squatters and that they are homeless people. So be careful when passing through this area of the forest.
1/3/2011 J Harry Rich State Forest by David
Flat and with plenty of options - Great space where your adventure can link up with other great spots. Coming from Groton on the rail trail, one can take a left at the Common Street crossing (just after the tree farm) and enter J. Harry Rich where the road ends. Then follow the trails and keep the river to your left and eventually you will meet back up to the NRRT. A nice and flat diversion! Also right next to Shepley Hill conservation area, which is very hilly - so I love to mix up the hills with the flatness of the Rich state forest. There are some very nice and secluded spots on the river that are great for picnics or not doing anything.

Hiking - Great hiking,beautiful trails
9/7/2010 Myles Standish State Forest by Kristan
Not very private - The first night we arrived we were all over the place trying to figure out how to get to the check in. the site we obtained was right on top of other campers, not even a little coverage to separate the sites. We managed to be moved to a new section of the park the next day and just found trying to get around the park discouraging. It is not disabled friendly as noted by no parking signs near a very long walk to a beach. For far too much money you could get a bundle of wood that contained 6 split pieces. Enough was enough and we left after the second night and checked into a hotel. It is, by far, the worse experience for camping we have ever had.
9/7/2010 Leominster State Forest by gerry
single trails - luv to follow the single trails from nemba with my dogs favorite spot is paradise alley and wolfsden hill nice clear water great for an afternoon hike
9/7/2010 Whitehall State Park by gerry

9/3/2010 Skinner State Park by Steve
Excellent view and surroundings! - A wonderful place to bring family and friends.
Neat features - Sphagnum bogs and pools of water created by long-ago felled trees. A special place.

Great park! - Loved this park!
8/11/2010 Clarksburg State Forest by Sonny1974
Camping for an overnight - I loved the one day/Night that we spent here at the park. We visited the VT wine and cheese festival and camped the night at Clarksburg. Friendly service private sites, and good backwoods feel. Fire pits were clean and they did have bathroom facilities to use
7/17/2010 Hopkinton State Park by Disappointed Mass resident
nice park, bad crowd... - the park offers swimming, boating, fishing, and hiking. Should be the ideal family spot on a hot summer day. Unfortunately, we saw public drinking, lewd behavior and even inappopriate treatment of a dog taking place. There seem to be very little oversight by park officials, and I even had to call 911 to get help for an injured bicyclist that appeared intoxicated. My husband and I (attending with 7 kids ages 9-14)left the park disappointed at best, but actually quite upset. This is a beautiful venue in need of crowd control and enforcement of park policies and rules. We will not re-visit any time soon
7/9/2010 Erving State Forest by vlizzle
Favorite Camping Spot - Nice small campground with well maintained and spacious sites. Super clean sites and beach area. Staff is very friendly and always willing to help. Highly recommend.
Rediculous - Kids came up to visit from CT and we went to nearby State park and were not allowed access!!!!!! They claim the park was too full..... Not even remotely amusing!!!! Baby sweltering in car, and they turn everyone away.....

6/3/2010 Erving State Forest by logcabin1
clean, well kept, beautiful lake - Been camping here for about 55 years. This campground is clean and woodsy. Showers are a nice addition. Lots of privacy and the lake is so clean. Great place to kayak, hike, or just hang around in the woods. Staff is very cordial and acconmodating.
5/29/2010 Quinsicamond State Park by Edward
Very small w/ beach & rental boats -
great river trail - Gorgeous walk along the river from Tunxis on the Ct line to the campground at Granville state forest. Neat waterfalls, quiet and away from any civilization for duration of hike
one of my favorite parks!!! - awesome
Bring your walking stick! - My husband and I visited this park the summer of 2009 and were very surprised when we got there, and realized the extent of climbing and descent involved amongst the rocks. There were other visitors who were hesitant to pursue the trail, but we went on very carefully mind you. This is when we decided a walking stick for balance would be helpful in traversing the terrain. All in all it was a nice hike and we will visit again, but will be more prepared next time. I will be bringing my sister to hike the chasm when she comes up from the flatlands of Florida this summer 2010.
3/23/2010 Robinson State Park by friend of Robinson
Wonderful birding - Favored stopover for migrating Neotropical songbirds. Over 186 species of birds have been seen in the park over the last 50 years of record keeping. Gorgeous park.
update needed - This park could use some renovation
2/9/2010 Leominster State Forest by resident
love this place - Really wish you could drive around in there with a registered ORV vehicle like a jeep to explore the terrain more. Seems like such a waste of some nice fire roads for those of us not looking to go through the MOAB in Utah. Maybe we should get a $100 permit system in place so people can really explore this area.
2/2/2010 Myles Standish State Forest by Thugger
Great place to fish - Caught the biggest Bass of my life here 7 years ago! Will not give out pond name though!! Will send you to pursue an untamed ornathoid without cause!
1/23/2010 Willard Brook State Forest by Mary M.
My Favorite Massachusetts State Forest - This is one of the most beautiful parks for the brooks that run through it, as well as due to the Park Supervisors and other seasonal staff, who are great people and very visitor-friendly. It is a great place, always changing, from season to season, year to year, for a hike, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, a picnic, camping, or swimming. It is a peaceful, lovely place, very good for families to enjoy nature. Mt. Wataitic (part of the Wapac and Midstate trails)as well as the Nashua River Rail Trail are under the jurisdiction of this State Forest. I could not live without it, as I go there to defuse the stresses in my life and replace them with the beauty and peace of Willard Brook, Trap falls, and Pearl Hill, in particular.
1/11/2010 J Harry Rich State Forest by Peter Rich
J Harry Rich the Man - J(oseph) Harry Rich was my grandfather. He purchased this land mostly in about 1917. He taught forestry at UMass in Amherst. During the summers, he employed his students to manage the tree farm. They would employ different techniques for pruning, brush clearance and the like to assess the impact of these on growth rates and the quality of the lumber produced. There has never been a man so in love with the forest. I caught my first fish in the Nashua River in about 1960. Of course, in those days we were afraid to eat the fish because of the upstream pollution by various paper mills and such. Although he died in about 1968, he would be pleased that the pollution has been largely mitigated and that his beloved tree farm has been preserved.
1/11/2010 Beartown State Forest by Ellen
Perfect in winter - We snowshoed here twice in January, and it was pristine and lovely. A perfect afternoon. Close to civilization, but in the woods and easy to reach.
Park Ranger Dennis St. Aubian was Great! - Thanks from Ron & Jane Napier Tipton, Missouri 65081
Outstanding Park - My colleagues and I have biked the many trails in the park as well as the main road that goes through the park. Trails can be difficult but rewarding.
11/9/2009 Harold Parker State Forest by Lulu,Canada nov.9,2009
The biggest site - Huge site, not far from Boston and not expensive. All the family will be back next year. And we can see if the alive turkey is always at the police headquarter!!!!
a beautiful hike, nice view at the top - unbelievable waterfalls in Sanderson Brook, beautiful in the fall and summer
- very fun for 10- 13
- This beautiful place is a refuge for people as well as birds and wildlife. The beaches are magnificent and on weekdays when we have gone, almost deserted. The marshes and wildlife are easily observed. The last time we were there a dense fog rolled off the ocean over the refuge....a wonderful, peaceful, cleansing experience.
9/5/2009 Upton State Forest by Jon Holland
close to home - this park is a great park to enjoy in all four seasons. You can enjoy it by hiking, walking, biking, and snowmobiling. The only down side is it is not very large. You can get lost without a map, but you can mountain bike almost all of it in two hours.
8/30/2009 Catamount State Forest by Lizz Bartlett
Surprised - I was pleasantly surprised to find that the new road has not increased the trash, user impact at MacLeod Pond. I thought that it would. I made 2 visits this weekend that were beautiful and peaceful.
beautiful spot - The lake at the top is a wonderful way to spend a day. My boyfriend grew up in the area and I have been coming up here for several years a great place to kayak....However signs are needed to discourage people from leaving trash, throwing turtles on their fires, leaving fishing line all over and bark peeeling also cutting down trees to make fires (hello greenwood doesnt burn well). It amazes me that people bring in a bag with food, fishing stuff and drinks and then turn around and leave it behind where do they think it goes, we visit the area about twice a week and pick up trash everytime. So enjoy it and pick up your trash!
7/19/2009 Harold Parker State Forest by Canadian Camper
Great for a Boston Home Base - We visited the park for 7 days with two kids in a pop-up trailer. The park was VERY clean and bathroom facilities excellent. Free showers and bathrooms were cleaned daily. We left the trailer at the park and drove 20 minutes to the subway and then took it into the city each day. Kids ride the subway free in Boston and a week pass is $15. The price of the park could not be beat and the park was safe, well kept and security was on hand.
Excellent campground - The sites are huge, private, level. Clean bathrooms and showers with hot water that works. Helpful staff

Gorgeous place to bike - Wow! What a great state park! This unique pine barrens ecology is full of birds and squirrels; smells like pine, and the camping spaces are flat and sandy and partly shaded. There are miles and miles of beautiful trails for biking, paved and unpaved, as well as equestrian trails and campsites. The bike paths are often pine-needle covered, and are mostly flat with some gentle rises. Some spectacular parts of the trails are lined with pines on both sides with a view of one of the ponds in the distance. There is nothing like biking to a pond for a dip! There are several ponds with designated swim areas. Great for kids. Campers spoke of being serenaded (and kept awake) by a whippoorwhil, who sang his heart out all night, but moved around the forest so at least his calls got distant at times. During the day I identified an Eastern Towhee, a bird I had never seen or heard before. Really want to bring my 12-year-old son back here for more biking.
Love the history - Went to the reenactment of General Washington taking command of the Continental Army today (June 27, 2009). Very well done. Great information, and very realistic. Overall a great park.
best place on earth - I grew up at the base of the hill and love to go fishing and hiking but I also think it sould be open to atv use with the agreement that thay must use only the trails that are there ,and if caught off of the trail get a big fine.
6/3/2009 Rehoboth State Forest by slbrides
Has potential... - On the smaller side, but I did not explore any of the trails that shot off from the main one. Was on my horse and it was rocky and narrow in spots. Probably better on foot. Has the potential to be a nice spot! And its better than a development!
Marked Trails - We too got very lost out there for several hours! If the trails were marked, it could have helped us! At least point the way out when you get to a cross trails.
4/24/2009 Plum Island State Park by michael
park site does not show anything - if the first contact with the park is through the website, you might never go there. what activities can you do? there is a lot of info about the surrounding area, please sell the park and the surrounding businesses will benefit too
4/17/2009 Wompatuck State Park by Joanne
Nice, big, close to water and Boston! - What a great surprise to find such a nice, big park in such a location! Very convenient to get to and to go to other attractions in the Boston area, especially the ocean!

kyaks or canoes - fishing great but are kyaks and canoes permited have been using pond for 40 years last time almost beaten up by shore fisherman .

WOW! What a view - Great view of the valley. On a clear day you can see Sprigfield to the south. Bring a lunch and watch the small plains land accross the river.
awesome escape from life - The Oxbow wildlife refuge is a great place to forget about life and take beautiful wildlife photos. There is a wide variety of wildlife and every time I go there I always see something different. The deer and otters are my favorite!
3/3/2009 Balance Rock State Park by Matty
natures wonders - Balance rock state park is awesome. To see nature set a rock so balanced is amazing .Over many years visitors have left their names on these rocks. Some very well may be hessien or british left during the revolutionary war.
11/19/2008 Bashbish Falls State Forest by billyjoel
A Hidden Jewel - It is spectacular, no matter what season! I regularly visit the falls, at least once every season and it is an easy walk from the parking lot in Taconic State Park.
Cape Cod Spas - Cape location is convenient to all attractions and activities year-round.
10/20/2008 Northfield State Forest by David Mix Barrington
Beautiful new viewpoint! - I hiked the M&M (white) trail north from the end of Alexander Hill Rd in Northfield, and found a clearing with a picnic table (presumably made by state forest people) on the east side of Stratton Mountain. There was a beautiful panoramic view including Monadnock and Mt. Grace. Is there documentation anywhere for the many marked hiking trails? (I saw blue, purple, and yellow along with the white.)
10/13/2008 Sutton State Forest by Lori Light
I wish the trails were marked - It is a very beautiful area but there were no marks telling you which trails led where and it can get confusingas there are many trails in the area and it was our first time visiting from Connecticut
live on cape can say love the woods - woods water quiet great
Best CCC Park that was built around 1935 - Many hiking and Biking trails and minor off road trails that were original CCC roads. Picknic area and Two large lakes and One with a swimming area. Location of the Northeast Chevy Gmc Truck show the first weekend in aug. every year
Very Beautiful - Lots of beautiful spots, some trails are well marked. Signage gets worse, old or non-existent the further you go...some trails not on maps at all. Nice folks working there though...hope some friends group works on getting the trails better marked, trails are well groomed. Swimming areas very nice.
8/21/2008 October Mountain State Forest by Nance
October Mountain Rocks! - We recently had a very pleasant stay at the campground in this beautiful park. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They ran a tight ship, in that no excessive noise was tolerated ever. The washrooms were clean and well cared for. We would definitely come back again!
peace and quiet - Visit this beach every weekend during the summer .. guys go fishing and the girls relax. Love it :)
7/5/2008 Myles Standish State Park by Myles
one place still to visit... - a trip to be taken...:)
New Road - Although the new road (stacy rd) is nice, I am afraid it will yield more 4x4 and partying, which means more erosion and trash. I greatly enjoy the beauty and accessibility to Catamount. I feel more signage (rules against 4x4 & garbage) and trail work will further benefit the area.
Great place to view Wildlife -
5/30/2008 Robinson State Park by Dirtman
Singletrack Heaven - What a place to mountain bike! Tight smooth singletrack, more switchbacks than you can count, and plenty of semi-technical stuff. As if riding in a mountain bike amusement park.
5/21/2008 Demarest Lloyd Memorial State Park by Mrs.Caswell
Our Summer Haven - Our family goes every summer. One of our favorite places, to spend the whole day. Wonderful if you have children. We have all our family cookouts there and will return for years to come!! Great place!!
