Encompassing over 2,100 acres of rugged, heavily forested, mountainous terrain, Bluestone State Park provides a wide variety of water-oriented activities for guests and residents of southern West Virginia. In the midst of this wilderness park, just five miles south of Hinton, are nestled modern cabins, a campground and fine recreational facilities. The extra plus is that Bluestone is adjacent to Bluestone Lake, the state's third largest body of water.
Several points of historical and recreational interest are located in the Bluestone area. For instance, famous outdoor musical dramas such as "Hatfields and McCoys," are performed at Grandview Park, near Beckley. Pipestem Resort State Park with its myriad of recreational facilities is only 10 miles to the south. Just north of the park is Bluestone Dam, Historic Hinton, and the New River Gorge National River, the center of some of the state's best whitewater rafting and canoeing. Of special note is Sandstone Falls, just north of Hinton. Bluestone National Wild and Scenic River flows into Bluestone Lake within the Park boundaries. Hunting and fishing opportunites abound at 17,632 acre Bluestone Wildlife Mangement Area adjacent to the park and nearby Camp Creek State Forest.
Overnight guests may choose from among 26 modern cabins in a variety of sizes suitable for two to eight persons. Of modern design and frame construction, the cabins feature beautiful, wood-paneled walls, stone fireplaces and forced air furnaces.
Each cabin comes equipped with: televisions with satellite programming service
Cots and cribs are available at an additional charge and may be reserved in advance to avoid a handling fee.

A variety of camping opportunites are available for the avid outdoorsman visiting Bluestone, from a 32 unit tent and trailer campground featuring 22 sites with electric hookups, central bathhouse, hot showers, and dumping station; to a rustic camping area with 45 sites for either tents or trailers and a central bathhouse with cold showers.
Also, located on the eastern shore of Bluestone Lake is a primitive, 47 site campground that is accessible by boat only. The campgrounds are located in the flood storage basin of Bluestone Lake and are open from early May to late October, depending upon the water level.
A swimming pool and a children wading area are open Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend. Cabin guests may enjoy year round swimming privileges at Pipestem Resorts' indoor pool.
Boating and water-skiing round out the lake activities. Boats and canoes may be rented at the marina.
