WINDSOR MEADOWS STATE PARK
Windsor Meadows State Park is a serene, riverside park spanning over 140 acres. It offers activities like fishing and boating on the Connecticut River, as well as hiking trails through lush woodlands teeming with wildlife. The park also features picnic areas for visitors to relax and enjoy nature's beauty while providing stunning views of Hartford's skyline from across the river.

History of the Area
Located in Windsor, Connecticut, the park was established as a state property in 1947. It spans over 140 acres of land along the east bank of the Connecticut River.

The area is known for its diverse wildlife and scenic views. The river's floodplain provides an ideal habitat for various species.

In addition to natural beauty, it also has historical significance with Native American artifacts found on site dating back thousands of years.

Over time improvements have been made including picnic areas and trails making it accessible to visitors year-round.

Passes
Connecticut has made state parks, forests, trails, historic sites and beaches more accessible to our residents so they can enjoy the many attractions and beauty they offer. Under the Passport to the Parks program, parking fees are now eliminated at Connecticut State Parks for those with Connecticut registered vehicles. Trails
- Main Trail: This is the longest trail in Windsor Meadows State Park, stretching approximately 3.5 miles along the Connecticut River; it offers scenic views of water bodies and lush greenery.

- Riverside Loop Trail: A moderate difficulty level loop that covers about 2 miles; this path takes hikers through a diverse range of landscapes including forests, meadows, and riverbanks.

- Woodland Pathway: An easy half-mile long pathway ideal for beginners or those seeking a short hike; winds its way through dense woodlands offering glimpses into local wildlife habitats.

- Meadow View Walkway: Approximately one mile in length with minimal elevation changes making it suitable for all fitness levels; provides stunning panoramic vistas over open grassy areas filled with wildflowers during springtime.

- Birdwatcher's Route: Not specifically marked but popular among bird enthusiasts due to rich avian diversity within park boundaries - no specific distance as route varies depending on seasonal migrations patterns.

-Picnic Point Track : Short track leading towards picnic area by riverside providing beautiful view points overlooking Connecticut River - less than quarter mile long perfect for family outings

-Fishing Access Trails : Several small trails branching off from main paths lead directly to fishing spots along river bank - distances vary between few hundred yards up-to couple thousand feet each

Directions
Directions from Hartford, Connecticut:

- Start on I-91 N.
- Continue for about 9 miles.
- Take exit 38A to merge onto CT -75 S/Poquonock Ave toward Windsor Center.

From New Haven, Connecticut:

- Begin by getting on I95-N.
- Merge with and continue along Route 34 W/CT15N (Wilbur Cross Parkway).
- After approximately eight miles take the left fork towards Interstate -I91 Northbound
- Follow this road until you reach Exit number #35B which is marked as "Route218 West/Windsor"

From Stamford, Connecticut:

- Begin your journey heading north-east via US1-S/E Main St/Boston Post Rd
- Take a right turn into Courtland Avenue followed by another right at Hamilton Avenue leading up to ramp of interstate highway-I95
- Following that route will lead you directly through Bridgeport & New Haven before reaching Hartford where after taking an exit at Poquonock avenue or State Highway#305 would get you straightaway in vicinity of park
