R A BOOTH MEMORIAL STATE PARK
Picnic under a stand of old-growth ponderosa pine. You'll find all the conveniences: picnic tables, drinking water and modern restrooms. The mixed forest which borders the highway (through an area the locals call Drews Gap), is especially colorful in the fall thanks to stands of quaking aspen.
Keep a watchful eye out for abundant wildlife -- mule deer, coyote and cougar drop by every once in a while.
Located in the U.S. state of Oregon, this natural reserve was established to honor Robert A. Booth - a prominent figure who contributed significantly towards forest conservation and management during his lifetime.
Robert A. Booth served as State Forester from 1911 until he retired in 1945, making him one of the longest-serving foresters at that time. He played an instrumental role in shaping forestry laws and policies which led to sustainable practices for managing forests across Oregon.
In recognition of his contributions, upon his death on November 6th,1952 , it was decided by authorities that a park would be named after him as a tribute; thus came into existence what is now known as R.A.B.M.P., located near Sutherlin city within Douglas County.
