This west Georgia park is best known for having the largest sand swimming beach of any Georgia state park. It is a recreational haven for water lovers looking for boating and fishing opportunities as well. Visitors can enjoy camping, picnicking, miniature golf, volleyball and horseshoes. A small lodge located near the beach features six units, each with a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, living area and bedroom. The park is named after a local businessman who operated the property as a private park from 1954 until 1971.
1. John Tanner State Park offers two freshwater lakes for swimming.
2. The park's main lake features a large sand beach, perfect for sunbathing and building sandcastles.
3. Lifeguards are on duty at the designated swim area during summer months ensuring safety of swimmers.
4. Swimming is allowed from Memorial Day through Labor Day in both lakes with no extra fee required.
5. For those who prefer privacy, private rental cottages near the smaller lake offer exclusive access to water activities including swimming.
6. The larger lake also has paddle boats available for rent providing an alternative way to enjoy the water besides swimming.
7. Swimming facilities include changing rooms and showers located conveniently close by.

The park offers a variety of boating options for visitors. It features two lakes where guests can enjoy paddleboarding, canoeing and pedal boat rentals. However, it's important to note that private boats are not allowed in the waters here due to restrictions on motorized watercrafts.
The park offers two lakes for fishing, stocked with bass, bream and catfish. A Georgia fishing license is required.

John Tanner State Park is located near Bremen, Carrollton and Newnan

John Tanner State Park offers picnic areas with grills, covered pavilions for group picnics and beautiful lake views.
