GEORGE DUDLEY SEYMOUR STATE PARK
GEORGE DUDLEY SEYMOUR STATE PARK
George Dudley Seymour State Park is a 222-acre natural haven offering diverse landscapes. It features scenic hiking trails along the Mattabesset River and Chapman Falls. The park also houses historical sites like Elisha Camp House and hosts various outdoor activities such as bird watching, fishing or picnicking for visitors to enjoy amidst its tranquil setting.

History of the Area
The park was established in 1949. It's named after George Dudley Seymour, a lawyer and historian. He purchased land along the Mattabesset River during his lifetime to preserve its natural beauty.

Seymour donated this property to the state of Connecticut upon his death in 1945 for public use as a recreational area. The site includes archaeological remains from Native American tribes that once inhabited it thousands of years ago.

The park spans over 222 acres today with hiking trails and picnic areas available for visitors' enjoyment.
