February 22 An amazingly enchanted forest retreat by Doctor Rocker
Solitude, scenery, interesting trails, amazing hikes, swimming and fishing holes, a magical wilderness, idyllic picnic potential, great date, worthwhile exploring. Love it!
July 26 Hidden gem of CT by Ron
This forest is one of the best around - cliffs looking out to scenic views, fantastic hiking, rivers and waterfalls, and almost no one goes here, why? Well, the roads are in such poor condition the state had to close them and it doesn?t look like they will plan on any improvements is near future. It?s a shame really, it a much better place to visit than Sleeping Giant.
October 4 Great place to hike
We love it here and hike different segments of the forest 5-6 times a week. It is quiet, not busy, and and has some beautiful spots if you search around a little bit. Great spot for dogs to run free to if they are friendly.
April 15 Off Trail by Tom
I love hiking here and have not found many other places in CT where one can hike so far in relative privacy. One note though is that you should be very careful of ticks. I have been flicking between 15 to 20 off of my pants every time I hike. Going off trail is a good way to find some really beautiful hidden waterfalls and other really neat spots.
November 14 Great by Pete
I kill a variety of game here. Good times.
June 8 Awesome Waterfalls by SWL
The forest is quite large with many interesting boulders and other geological features. What struck me most was the large system of waterfalls off Black Forest Road. These falls are some of the most impressive I have seen in the state. The waterfalls are cascading and fairly large, but not so large that you cannot climb around on the rocks(just be careful). That being said, I was disappointed by some of the beer cans and plastic bottles scattered around in this location.
May 7 hiking fools
i have been hiking high rock for many years and within the past few years have expanded my travels to off the beaten path and must say there are miles of trails in here that wind around the place and we have planned a hike that takes most of the day to walk but is very scenic parking at the top of high rock in Naugatuck and walking the trail that passes by 3 of the oxford reservoirs and and finally walking the logging road from the power lines in beacon falls back to the the top parking spot(look down on this last part there is a surprise all in the gravel road). The whole thing takes about 6 hours including breaks and time to soak up the view ENJOY!!
April 3 I LOVE THIS PLACE! by Hiker520
I hike the Oxford Reservoirs (all 4 of them) about once a week! I really enjoy it up there. I saw my first snake of the season on March 21, and saw another one today, April 3. My goal within the next 2 years is to hike the NSF in its entirety. One thing I noticed about the reservoirs, especially #4 (Chestnut Tree Hill Rd, Oxford) is that parts of the trail are washed out and very rocky. Be Careful!
February 1 In need of a good map by sir-runs-o-lot
