CLAUDE D KELLEY STATE PARK
Located near the town of Atmore, Claude D. Kelly State Park, also known as Little River State Park, features a 25-acre lake with boating and fishing facilities. Campers can wander the trails or enjoy activities on the lake any time of the day.
Established in 1935, the park is located in Alabama. Originally named Little River State Forest Park, it was renamed after Claude D Kelley. He served as state forester from 1927 to 1952 and played a crucial role in reforestation efforts during his tenure.
The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) developed this area initially for recreational use with cabins and picnic areas built by CCC workers themselves. The site covers approximately 1,080 acres of land featuring diverse flora and fauna including longleaf pines which were restored under Kelley's leadership.
Over time, facilities have been updated or added such as campgrounds while maintaining its natural beauty attracting visitors year-round for camping, hiking trails among other outdoor activities.
