November 5 Lost without a trail by Min_H
Do not take Military Trail. It got us lost. Had to hike straight up a precarious hill. Called 911. They said we were close to the highway. We climbed through a barbed wire fence and finally found the road. But we were far away from our car parked at the state park lot. Not a good experience. But is was pretty.
March 14 Great for Philmont training
Took our Philmont crew here for a shakedown. The terrain is similar to what they will exerience at Philmont. Staff was knowledgeable and helpful.
July 4 the park is not closed by Harold & Mary Keyser
I have had several calls saying that Google says the park is closed. We have been the camphosts/on site managers for nearly 5 years and the park has never closed during that time.
May 11 I LIKE IT! by Solo
This is a nice little park with awesome camp hosts. I have stayed here a few time as a base camp to explore the surrounding area and its the start of the Ouachita Trail.
November 3 Wonderful Time ! by David & Lori
Harold & Mary are excellent camp hosts. They were very helpful and knowledgeable about the area, The campsites and bathrooms are very nice and clean, This is one of the best parks we have stayed. Firewood at every site hot water and heated bathrooms were a very pleasant surprise. This was our first visit and we will be back to stay again. Thank you for making us feel so welcome.
July 20 great place to stay by biker
We stopped because of rain, it turned out to be a very good decision. The park had a feel of a mom and pop place not a state park. The park was very clean, in the showerhouses were pump soap on the counter. The camp host known the area well enough to tell someone how to get back to camp after making several wrong turn on the trail. We wish the park was closer to home so we could go more often. A wonderful place to stay.

Do you allow hikers to leave a car at Talimena State Park? We plan to hike from Queen Wilhelmina State Park to your park in March.
