STARVATION CREEK STATE PARK
Zooming down Interstate 84 eastbound, you might very well miss this tiny park. Nestled at the base of the sheer walls of the Columbia Gorge, Starvation Creek is much more than it appears. Recently re-opened after reconstruction of the aging (and failing) water system, Starvation Creek is a feast for the eyes and feet.

Trails spreading out from this day-use park lead onto adjacent National Forest Service land and connect to the Mt. Defiance and Starvation Ridge trails. Heading east, trek along a remnant of the Historic Columbia River Highway to Viento State Park and campground.

Trail improvements, including a repaving project, are already underway. Other historic highway segments designed for trail use and accessible to people with disabilities are now open between Hood River and Mosier (Twin Tunnels segment) and from Cascade Locks north to the Tooth Rock Trailhead.

The waterfall at Starvation Creek, one of the few in this area of the gorge, is an elegant cascade admired by gorge travelers for thousands of years.

Trails
1. Starvation Creek Falls Trail: This is a short, easy trail that leads directly to the stunning 190-foot waterfall known as Starvation Creek Falls.

2. Mount Defiance Trail: A challenging hike with an elevation gain of over 4800 feet, this trail offers panoramic views from the highest point in Columbia River Gorge.

3. Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail - West Section: An accessible paved path perfect for biking or walking which passes through lush forests and several waterfalls including Cabin Creek falls and Hole-in-the-Wall falls.

4. Mitchell Point Overlook via Wygant Peak Hike Loop: Moderate difficulty level hiking route offering breathtaking vistas of Mt Hood & Mt Adams along with other peaks across Oregon's Cascade Range.

5. Viento Bluff Trails: These are two separate trails; one leading up to a bluff overlooking I:84 while another descends down towards Viento creek providing serene forested surroundings.

6. Starvation Ridge Cutoff #414B: It's steep but shorter alternative connecting lower part of starvation ridge trial to upper section bypassing difficult switchbacks on main track.

7. Hole:In-The Wall-Falls Spur: Short spur off historic highway state park taking you close-up view at man-made hole-in-wall-falls created during construction work back in early twentieth century.

8. Cabin:Creek-Falls-Spur: Another small detour showcasing beautiful cabin-creek-waterfall cascading into pool below surrounded by mossy rocks.

9. Wygant:Peak-Via-Starvation-Ridge-Hiking-trail: Longest single day trek within park covering almost all major attractions like multiple waterfalls, old-growth Douglas fir trees etc., it also provides access points for various smaller loops/trails branching out throughout its length.
