History of the Area
The history of Saint Lawrence State Forest Number 2 dates back to the late 19th century. In the late 1800s, much of the land in the Adirondack Mountains and other parts of upstate New York was being rapidly deforested due to logging activities. This resulted in the loss of habitat for wildlife, erosion of topsoil, and depletion of natural resources.

Recognizing the need to conserve these lands, the New York State legislature passed the Adirondack Park Act in 1885, establishing the Adirondack Park. This led to the creation of the New York State Forest Preserve, which aimed to protect the natural resources and scenic beauty of the region. Saint Lawrence State Forest Number 2 was later designated as part of this Forest Preserve.
