History of the Area
Located in southwestern Oklahoma, the park was established as a state park by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1937. It's known for its unique granite landscape and Lake Altus-Lugert.

In 1955, it became part of Quartz Mountain Nature Park along with two other parks: Baldy Point State Park and Lake Altus State Game Reserve. The area is now collectively referred to as Quartz Mountain Resort Arts & Conference Center or simply "Quartz Mountain".

The resort has been home to various arts institutes since 1978 when Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute (OSAI) first began hosting annual sessions there.

Visitors can enjoy activities like hiking, rock climbing or bird watching while appreciating stunning views over rugged terrain.

Swimming
1. Quartz Mountain State Park offers a designated swimming area at Lake Altus-Lugert.
2. The lake's sandy beaches provide an ideal spot for sunbathing and picnicking near the water.
3. There are no lifeguards on duty, so swimmers should exercise caution while in the water.
4. Swimming is not allowed around boat docks or marinas due to safety concerns.
5. Canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding and other watersports can also be enjoyed alongside swimming activities within park boundaries.

Boating
The park offers a variety of boating options for visitors. There is an on-site marina where guests can rent paddle boats, kayaks and canoes to explore the lake. For those with their own watercrafts, there are two boat ramps available for use at no charge. The 6,400-acre Lake Altus-Lugert provides ample space for sailing enthusiasts as well as motorized vessels such as speedboats or jet skis.
Fishing
Enjoy fishing in two main areas: Lake Altus-Lugert and the North Fork Red River. Species include walleye, crappie, catfish.

The park offers shoreline or boat-based angling opportunities. A valid Oklahoma Fishing License is required for all anglers.

Fishing gear can be rented on-site if needed. The lake also hosts annual fishing tournaments open to visitors.

For fly-fishermen, trout are stocked during winter months providing a unique experience amidst stunning natural scenery.

Picnicking
Quartz Mountain State Park offers numerous picnic areas with tables and grills, some near the lake. Shelters are available for rent.
Trails
1. Baldy Point Trail: This trail is a 0.6-mile loop that offers panoramic views of the park and lake, suitable for all skill levels.

2. Quartz Mountain Nature Park Loop: A moderate to difficult level hike spanning approximately 7 miles; it features beautiful wildflowers during springtime and provides opportunities for bird watching.

3. Lake Altus Dam Hiking Pathway: An easy walking path stretching about two miles along the dam's edge, offering scenic water vistas throughout its length.

4. North Shore Trailhead - South Section (Quartz Mountain): Approximately three mile long trail with an elevation gain around 150 feet which makes this route moderately challenging yet rewarding due to stunning landscapes surrounding it.

5. Twin Peaks Walking Trails: These are short trails each less than half a mile in length but offer great vantage points over looking Twin Peaks area within Quartz mountain state park.

6. North Shoreline Trial- Northern section(Quartz Moutain): Similar terrain as southern counterpart, this trial stretches upto four miles providing hikers ample opportunity to explore diverse flora fauna native to Oklahoma region.

7. Quartz Mountian Perimeter Road Walkway: A relatively flat paved pathway ideal for casual strolls or bike rides measuring roughly six milles encircling entire quartz mountian range.
Bicycling
Biking enthusiasts can enjoy miles of trails, ranging from easy to challenging. Be aware that some areas are rugged.

Mountain biking is popular here but requires caution due to steep inclines and rocky terrain in certain sections.

For a leisurely ride, opt for the paved roads winding through beautiful landscapes. Always wear safety gear when cycling.

Ensure your bike has good suspension as off-road paths may be uneven with loose gravel or sand patches present.

Cyclists should stay hydrated and take regular breaks during hot weather conditions prevalent in this region.

Remember: wildlife encounters might occur while riding; maintain distance and respect their space for everyone's safety.

Night-time bicycling isn't recommended because visibility decreases significantly after sunset which could lead to accidents on unfamiliar routes.

Birding
The park offers diverse birding opportunities with over 200 species, including rare sightings like the Golden Eagle. Birdwatchers can explore various habitats such as wetlands and rocky cliffs. The Bald Eagles are a winter highlight for visitors.

July 10 Not Happy about the parking situation by Don_H
park review stars; one to five impossible to get service, so what we usually do is pay on our way out, well this time my wife got a $20 ticket for taking the kids swimming. Stop being lazy and come up with a better system. There should also be more signs posted. Is there a way I can just pay when I get there instead of having to log in or text
October 13 Would Not Recommend by Valerie_N_C
park review stars; one to five We have booked our family reunion at Quartz Mountain Group Camp for years This year we went and were surprised at the fact the Playgrounds were removed from the group camp area, and the AC in the dining hall was not working. They failed to mention these issues to me in previous phone calls leading up to our weekend. They had 3 very small window units that did not keep that huge area cool at all. It was 99 degrees in there at one point on Saturday. Our elderly family members were too hot, and our kids had no place to play at all. Overall experience with the facilities was horrible, we did not rebook for the upcoming year as I was told they were not fixing the AC issue.
