Nissequogue River State Park is located on the north shore of Long Island. A variety of habitats including tidal and fresh water wetlands and hardwood forests provide habitat to a variety of shore birds, reptiles and amphibians. A section of the park has been designated a State Bird Conservation Area. The Greenbelt Trail, for walking and hiking, parallels the Nissequogue River and provides scenic views of the river and the Long Island Sound from the top of the bluffs. The park also has a soccer field, a canoe and kayak launch, fishing, bird watching, interpretive signs, guided tours and group tours by reservation, plus a conference room which can be rented.
Boating
The park offers a variety of boating options for visitors. Kayaking and canoeing are popular activities, with rentals available on-site during the summer season. The river's calm waters make it ideal for beginners or those looking to enjoy a leisurely paddle. Motorized boats are not permitted in order to preserve the tranquility and natural beauty of the area.
Fishing
Anglers can enjoy freshwater fishing, with species like largemouth bass and bluegill. Saltwater options include striped bass and flounder.



Picnicking
Nissequogue River State Park offers scenic picnic areas with tables and grills. No reservations required, available on a first-come basis.
Birding
The park offers diverse birding opportunities with over 200 species recorded, including waterfowl and migratory birds. Birdwatchers can explore various habitats like marshes, forests and grasslands within the area. The site is also part of Audubon's Important Bird Areas program due to its significant avian population.
