History of the Area
Located in the heart of Oregon, this natural haven has a rich history that dates back to centuries. The area was originally inhabited by Native American tribes who utilized its abundant resources for survival and cultural practices.

In 1860s, during the gold rush era, it became an important site as miners flocked here hoping to strike it rich. However, after several years with little success most moved on leaving behind remnants of their activities which are still visible today.

The land transitioned into logging operations towards late 19th century due to its dense forest cover. This continued until mid-20th century when conservation efforts began gaining momentum across America leading up-to preservation initiatives within Oregon too.

It wasn't until early 1960s that state officials recognized potential value in preserving these lands for public use and enjoyment rather than commercial exploitation. Thus started process of acquiring parcels from private owners through purchases or donations over next few decades culminating into establishment as a protected parkland around late '70s - early '80's period under State Parks Department jurisdiction.
