History of the Area
The Mallard Club Marsh State Wildlife Area, also known as the Grand River Wildlife Area, is located in northeast Ohio, in Trumbull County. It was established in 1953 and has a rich history that spans decades.

The area was initially purchased by the Ohio Division of Wildlife primarily for the purpose of waterfowl restoration and management. It was later named the Mallard Club Marsh to honor the Mallard Club of Cleveland, which played a significant role in the financial support and development of the area.

The Mallard Club Marsh was one of the first wildlife areas in the state to implement active wetland management practices. This included the construction of several dikes, the installation of water control structures, and the creation of numerous water impoundments. These efforts greatly enhanced the area's waterfowl habitat and made it a popular destination for both hunting and wildlife viewing.

The Mallard Club Marsh State Wildlife Area has undergone various habitat improvement projects and land acquisitions, increasing its size and ecological value. Today, it spans nearly 7,000 acres, consisting of marshes, swamps, woodlands, open fields, and diverse flora and fauna.

In addition to providing ample opportunities for waterfowl hunting, Mallard Club Marsh also offers excellent birdwatching, fishing, and trapping. It supports a variety of wildlife species, including Canada geese, mallards, wood ducks, teal, great blue herons, bald eagles, kingfishers, beavers, muskrats, and many more.

The Mallard Club Marsh State Wildlife Area continues to be managed by the Ohio Division of Wildlife, who strive to maintain and enhance its habitat diversity, while providing recreational opportunities for the public.
