CANE CREEK STATE PARK
Located where the rolling terrain of the West Gulf Coastal Plain and the alluvial lands of east Arkansas's Mississippi Delta meet, this park offers you the opportunity to explore two of Arkansas's distinct natural settings in one visit. Hike or bike the park's 2,053 acres of woodlands in the Coastal Plain. Paddle or fish on 1,675-acre Cane Creek Lake, a timbered Delta lake, and experience the lush beauty and abundant wildlife that inhabit Arkansas's Mississippi Delta. Just across the timber-filled lake, anglers and paddlers can also explore Bayou Bartholomew, the world's longest bayou.
Located in Lincoln County, Arkansas, the park was established in 1973. It spans over 2,053 acres and includes a lake.
The area is known for its diverse ecosystem of delta lowlands and west gulf coastal plains. The two regions meet within the park boundaries creating an intersection of distinct natural environments.
In addition to outdoor activities such as hiking or fishing on Cane Creek Lake's waters, it also offers educational programs about local wildlife conservation efforts since establishment.
Over time this location has become popular among bird watchers due to unique species found there like Red-cockaded Woodpecker.
The campground at Cane Creek features 29 campsites (Class B) and one Rent-An-RV, and a modern bathhouse with hot showers. Cane Creek is one of the Arkansas State Parks system's four parks that offer a Rent-An-RV. This 30-foot RV features heat and air-conditioning; beds for eight persons; a fully-equipped kitchen including stove/oven, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, pots and dishes; satellite TV/VCR/DVD and built-in sound system with CD and radio. The unit also includes a slide-out area. Alongside the RV is an 11' x 11' wooden deck equipped with a table, chairs and a cooking grill. The RV is permanently set up on a campsite featuring water, electric, and sewer hookups. A deposit is required per stay. Weekday rentals may be made for one day. Weekends require a two-day rental. Anglers can enjoy fishing in the park's lake, known for its bountiful populations of bass, crappie, catfish, and bream. Fishing piers and boat rentals are available to enhance your experience on the water. The serene environment is ideal for both novice and experienced fishermen seeking a peaceful retreat with ample opportunities for catches.
Cane Creek State Park offers scenic picnic spots with tables and grills overlooking the lake amidst lush Arkansas woodlands.
When considering bicycling options, it's important to be aware of the terrain and your own skill level. The park features a multi-use trail system that includes both easy and challenging routes for cyclists.
The "Delta View Trail" is an option; however, riders should note its length at over 15 miles. It traverses various landscapes but requires stamina and preparation due to its distance.
For those seeking less intensive riding, shorter trails are available as well. Always check current conditions before setting out since weather can affect trail quality significantly.
Helmets are strongly recommended while biking these paths for safety reasons-accidents can happen even on the most tranquil rides.
Lastly, respect other users by yielding appropriately-it's shared space with hikers and possibly equestrians depending on specific rules in place during your visit.
Hiking, backpacking, mountain biking trails, and a kayak trail, offer outdoor adventure including birding and other wildlife viewing opportunities. The 15.5-mile, multi-use trail goes through rolling terrain, along the lake, and across many bridges including three suspension bridges. There is also a 2.5-mile multi-use trail for smaller adventures. The park?s 2.5-mile kayak trail offers a relaxing outdoor aquatic adventure.
The park offers diverse birding habitats including woodlands, wetlands, and lake areas. Birders can spot Prothonotary Warblers, Wood Ducks, Pileated Woodpeckers among other species. The park's location attracts migratory birds along the Mississippi Flyway. There are designated trails for bird watching that provide opportunities to see various songbirds and raptors. Visitors may participate in guided bird walks led by knowledgeable staff or volunteers.
Park staff offer guided walking, biking, kayaking, and birding tours, and other interpretive programs throughout the year.
To reach Cane Creek State Park from Star City, travel five miles east on Ark. 293 to the park.
