ARROW ROCK STATE HISTORIC SITE
ARROW ROCK STATE HISTORIC SITE
If you enjoy the easygoing serenity of a quiet village, then Arrow Rock is the place for you. Once a thriving riverport, the town is dotted with architectural treasures from the past. Limestone gutters of carefully carved blocks line the main street, marking the toil of earlier generations. Wooden sidewalks and overhead canopies still line store fronts, recalling the grace and aura of times long past. The entire town of Arrow Rock was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964.

An integral part of this historic town is Arrow Rock State Historic Site. The site's visitor center museum features exhibits that tell about Arrow Rock and the historic "Boone's Lick Country." The Bingham Home, built by Missouri's preeminent artist of the 1800s, George Caleb Bingham, has been restored and furnished as it might have been when he lived there. The Huston Tavern, dating back to 1834, stands ready to serve you its traditional hearty fare. The old courthouse, a town doctor's home, a stone jail and other historic buildings are part of a walking tour offered at the site.

After touring the historic site, shopping at the town's many antique shops or watching a repertory production at the Lyceum Theater, you can spend the night in the site's modern campground. Special events are featured throughout the year, but a visit to Arrow Rock will be a trip through time whenever you go.
Camping
Arrow Rock State Historic Site offers 12 basic, 34 electric and one sewer/electric/water campsites and a special-use camping area. Two electric campsites and one basic campsite are accessible. Water and modern restrooms are not available Nov. 1 through March 31. Electric campsites are closed Nov. 15 through March 15.

For reservations, there is a required minimum stay for weekends and major holidays from May 15 through Sept. 15

If not reserved, it is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The shelter has two large fireplaces, three picnic grills, several picnic tables, water and electricity. An accessible vault toilet is nearby. To inquire about reserving the shelter, please call (660) 837-3330.
Nature Programs
Each April and May, the historic site conducts special interactive school programs for nearly 2,000 elementary students. The programs are designed to give children a taste of 19th century life and broaden their sense of Missouri history. Reservations for the school programs are taken in early February. Contact the site office at (660) 837-3330 for more information or to be placed on the school program mailing list.

Other cultural events, lectures and "living history" re-enactments and special programs occur on the site and in the town throughout the year. These events may vary widely from year to year.

The Lyceum Theater, Missouri's oldest repertory theater produces plays and musicals from June through October. For a complete listing of events occurring in town, please contact the historic site office at (660) 837-3330.

Guided walking tours of the village of Arrow Rock are provided by the Friends of Arrow Rock for a nominal fee.
