Worthington State Forest

Some of the most rugged terrain and splendid views of northern New Jersey are found in Worthington State Forest. A rocky and sometimes steep trail follows Dunnfield Creek from the Delaware River to Mount Tammany or hikers may choose to follow the trail to Sunfish Pond, one of the most popular sites in the area. Millions of years in the making, the pond was carved out by glacial forces during the last ice age and is one of fourteen rock-basin lakes between the Delaware Water Gap and the end of Kittatinny Ridge. A trail circles the pond, with many boulders and openings for resting and observation.
Campsites: 69 tent and trailer sites with picnic tables and fire rings. Open April 1 through December 31. Campsites 1-77 have modern toilets and showers. $20 per night.
Group campsites: Three group sites; capacity: 35 each. Picnic tables, fire rings, modern toilets. Open April 1 through December 31. $35 per night.

to this park:
A small family picnic area has been added to the area and offers a peaceful, picturesque setting under a hemlock grove near the Delaware River. Limited space is available.
There are over 26 miles of trails within the park including 5 miles of canoe trails on the Delaware River and over 7 miles of the Appalachian Trail. All trails within the park are hiking only. A demanding climb to the top of Mt. Tammany at 1527 ft. above sea level rewards the park visitor with a panoramic view of the Delaware Water Gap. A new interpretive trail, the Rockcores Trail, has been developed and offers some natural and historic information to the park visitor.
Interpretive Programs:Interpretive programs are offered seasonally from April to October in the campground. Programs are also offered year round for schools and organized groups. Please contact the office for special dates and times of events.
Dunnfield Creek Natural Area (1,085 acres)
Hikers, fishermen, bird watchers and other naturalists can follow this moderate trail through a mature hemlock and mixed hardwood ravine along Dunnfield Creek. This area is designated a Wild Trout Stream and supports a healthy population of native brook trout, the state fish of New Jersey.
Sunfish Pond Natural Area (258 acres)
This impressive glacial lake, surrounded by a chestnut oak forest is reached by a steep and rocky climb along the Appalachian Trail. No swimming or camping is permitted at this area, however, 1/4 mile south of the pond along the Appalachian Trail is a backpacking wilderness camping area. This camping area is monitored by a caretaker who teaches Leave No Trace techniques, precautions on Living in Bear Country and enforces the No Fire regulation.

July 30 Camp sites by Onofrio

Site 16 17 18 21 &22 are the most secluded...
July 10 bears

A bear was able to open the silver bear bins at the backpacker site near sunfish pond- use the brown bins.
once he/she started eating it was difficult to scare away.
June 7 OK sites

Campground use to be pristine sites in all of NJ! People DO NOT obey rules or care i guess. Garbage was stacked high in an adjacent section of the park. Campsites are littered with trash. No ranger that patrols to check on camp sites. Got people drinking beer doing drugs on river bank. if i could rate this lower i would.
May 3 Adjacent to the National Park Service

The area is surrounded by and adjacent to the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, a unit of the National Park Service
April 12 Great - but for the facilities

The place is amazing, water is very inviting, and overall the experience - wonderful!
The only reason it does not get a 3 or more star is due to the bath/rest rooms. In Worthington state forest, the facilities are unclean, and the toilet is a natural pit. The one other aspect was the campsite itself. You need to choose your campsite wisely. We had the unfortunate proximity with a family having 4 children, and our desire to wake up listening just to the natural sounds was soon dampened by the chitter-chatter of our young neighbors. If you do not care about these, you will have a ball of a time!
October 25 Beautiful! Loved it! by Elaine

The trails are difficult, but worth it. The camp sites are great (we did encounter a bear though - so heed the signs!). Very enjoyable stay. State Park Police are very helpful and do a great job!
June 5 Cant believe this is NJ

What a beautiful loaction!! We stayed at the campground over Memorial Day and it was great! The campground was clean and the trail to Sunfish Pond was great. We are planning another trip soon.
June 5 Magnificent! by BM

This place is one of our favorite parks in the northeast. The camping is awesome and there are miles of hiking trails. You have the Delaware River on one side and the mountains on the other.
February 26 Wonderful views by Bill Bannan

The Mt. Tammany trail is difficult but well worth the views overlooking Delaware Water Gap and Pennsylvania. WSF has some of the best hiking in NJ by far
July 19 Wonderful place to camp by rangermikeswife

Beautiful camp grounds, clean showers and toilet areas, lots of smaller toileting areas throughout the campgrounds. Stayed on site 13! Beautiful. Recommend 13,14,15! Very vigorous hiking available.
July 18 Best in the State

A two mile long campground on the Jersey side of the Delaware River just north of the Delaware Water Gap. Many campsites on the river. Most sites are in wooded areas. Some (the ones around the big open field at the north end of the campground) are sunny, and hot in the summer. This is a great place for your canoe or kayak. A paradise for birders and nature lovers. Bald eagles, deer, and bears are often seen in the area, if not in your campsite. Be sure you heed the rules about the bears and you will enjoy seeing them. The fee quoted in this website is old; be sure to give them a call for current rates.
