This park spans 1,445 acres along the shores of scenic Lake Martin, which is a 41,000-acre clear-water reservoir perfect for fishing, swimming and boating. Park facilities include the largest state-operated campground in the United States with 625 sites, many of which are waterfront sites allowing campers to fish, swim and boat right out their back door. Other facilities include a marina, campstore, fishing pier, hiking trails, playground and picnic areas with tables, grills and shelters. Ten camping cabins are currently under construction at Wind Creek State Park, three of which are now open to the public.
History of the Area
Located in Alabama, this 1,445-acre park was established around the mid-20th century. It is situated on Lake Martin's shores and offers a variety of recreational activities such as camping, fishing and boating.

The land for the park was donated by Alabama Power Company in 1946. Initially managed by Tallapoosa County Parks Authority until it became part of the state parks system under legislation passed in 1975.

It has since grown to become one of America's largest public campgrounds with over 600 sites available for RVs or tents. The area also includes cabins that can be rented year-round.

In recent years there have been several improvements including renovations to campsites and facilities plus new additions like playground equipment designed specifically for children with disabilities.

Cabins
Seven cozy camping cabins are available year-round. Reservations are recommended.

CAMPING CABINS #1 and #3 Cabin size is 16 x 24 and is furnished with two double bunk beds, queen sleeper sofa, table and chairs, 3 bar stools, one bath and kitchenette with microwave, coffee maker, toaster, sink and small refrigerator. It has central air and heat and sleeps up to 6 people.

CAMPING CABIN #2 (Handicapped Accessible)Cabin size is 14 x 24 and is handicapped accessible, furnished with one twin bed, two bunk beds, table and chairs, and one bath with accessible shower. The kitchenette has a microwave, coffee maker, taoster, sink and a small refrigerator. This unit sleeps up to 3 people.

CAMPING CABINS #4, #5, #6 and #7Cabin size is 20 x 32 and is furnished with two queen beds, a sleeper sofa, table and chairs, and one bath. The kitchenette has a microwave, coffee maker, toaster, sink and a small refrigerator.

All rental rates are plus 9% lodging tax. RESERVATIONS ARE TAKEN MONDAY-FRIDAY FROM 8 A.M- 4 P.M.

No more than 6 persons per camping cabin.The camping cabins are furnished with a microwave, sink, coffee maker, toaster and small refrigerator.There are no bed linens, bath linens, pillows, cooking or eating utensils provided.

2-Night Minimum on Weekends and 3-Nights on Holiday Weekends.

Check In Time: 4 p.m.

Check Out Time: 11 a.m.

72 hour cancellation notice required.

Open flame cooking devices are not allowed in cabins.

No pets are allowed in cabins.

All cabins are non-smoking.

Tents are not allowed in cabin area.
Camping
With 626 modern campsites spread over 320 acres, Wind Creek State Park has the largest state-operated campground in the United States. Campfires, outdoor grilling, bicycling and hiking are all part of the camping experience at Wind Creek. Fully equipped, modern campground; each site provides picnic table, grill, water and electricity. Bathhouses are located throughout the sections of the campground with a playground centrally located.

An additional 16 sites are now available for visitors that are horse camping. Please call and check for overnight availability.

REGISTRATION

The camping area at Wind Creek is operated on a first come-first serve basis. Night registration is provided after hours. The person registered must occupy the site immediately with bonafide camping equipment. Those sites not occupied will be considered vacant. Campsites are assigned during registration. All changes must be made at the camper registration office. Persons who deliberately occupy the wrong site or change sites without prior notification of the registration office, will be asked to leave the campground.

MOTOR BIKES

Only motor bikes with license plates and operated by a licensed driver may be operated on park roads. Helmets and shoes must be worn at all times.

GARBAGE

Please place household garbage only in dumpsters located throughout the park. Do Not leave garbage at your campsite when you leave.

VISITORS

Persons visiting a registered camper must obtain a visitor?s pass from the registration office. An Entrance Fee Per Vehicle is Charged for Visitors. If there are two vehicles already at the campsite, the visitors must walk in to the site or be picked up by the camper. All non-campers must leave by 9 p.m.

VEHICLES

At no times may there be more than 2 vehicles at any one site. Additional vehicles must be left outside the campground.
Marinas
Live bait, tackle, game and fishing license, firewood, some RV and boat supplies, variety of floats and other supplies are available at the marina store. Boat slips are available for rent on a daily or monthly basis. Store hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Come by boat or land. Gas dock available.
Swimming
The beach area opens at 7:00 a.m.withvolleyball, bathhouse and picnic tables available.
Boating
Non motorized Flat Bottom Jon Boats are available to rent. Life jackets are included. (Includes life jackets and paddles).

Motorized Flat Bottom Jon Boats (8 hp motor) are available. (Includes life jackets and paddles).

Pontoon boats are available to rent. Will hold up to 9 people. Must fill with gas.

All prices are subject to change and there is a 4-hour minimum on some boats.

ALL BOAT RENTERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL ALABAMA BOATING LAWS !!!!

NOTE : ALL BOATS MUST BE RETURNED FULL OF GAS.
Fishing
Lake Martin is located in east central Alabama about 40 miles northeast of Montgomery. This Alabama Power Company reservoir encompasses 39,100 acres and has more than 700 miles of shoreline. Numerous public access areas, marinas and Wind Creek State Park are available to facilitate boating and fishing. The water level is lowered about 10 feet each winter but most access areas are designed to accommodate this annual drawdown.

Wind Creek State Park has a 210-foot fishing pier and sells bait and tackle at the Marina Store.

Picnicking
Wind Creek State Park offers the perfect setting for family recreation and relaxation. The park provides something for all ages, from fishing, picnicking and hiking to just relaxing beneath the whispering pines. Picnic tables and grills are available on a first come-first serve basis. Picnic pavilion rental is available.
Trails
At Wind Creek State Park, two hiking trails offer the visitor everything from the beauty of wildflowers and blooming dogwood to white-tailed deer. The trails wind over hardwood ridges and through tall pines down the shoreline, offering spectacular views of Lake Martin. Also there is a horse trail, offering riders a scenic view through the hardwoods and tall pines.

CAMPFIRE TRAIL

This trail begins and ends in the northern section of the Park. Rated primarily moderate with several steep areas, this trail is approximately 1.8 miles in length and marked by a yellow trail blaze. The three connectors, blue, white and orange, are approximately 1/5 mile each. During the spring, white dogwood, buckeye and oak leaf-hydrangea paint the hardwood ridges with brilliant color. This trail traverses both mixed hardwood forest and intermittent pine. Midway up the trail, a series of rock outcroppings occurs bordered by an abundance of ferns. Toward the end of the trail, a small stream bisects the path leading south.

ALABAMA REUNION TRAIL

This moderate to difficult trail is approximately 3.8 miles in length and traverses both hardwood bottoms and pine forest. The trail is bisected by highway 128 and marked with red blaze its entire length. The trail is actually a loop with its beginning and end in close proximity. Several natural features can be noted, which include an old home site on the northern half, picturesque hardwood bottoms, stands of pine, beds of fern and an abundance of bird and animal life.The North Side is approximately 1.95 miles and the South Side is 1.8 miles.

JEFF REED HORSE TRAIL

Approximately 10 miles long. Offering multiple views of wild life, the Jeff Reed Horse Trail takes riders through a vast forest of mixed hard wood, pines, ferns, along a stream and views of Lake Martin. For visitors that are horse camping, an additional 16 camping sites are available in our overflow area. Please call and check for overnight availability.

Lakewinds Golf Course

This 18-hole public golf course is located 5-6 miles from WInd Creek State Park.Directions: Going towards Jackson's Gap Alabama, on 280E, turn right a short distance past Lake Hill Restaurant after you cross the bridge. (on County Road 40). Horseshoe Bend National Military Park

The 2,040 acre National Military Park is dedicated to the memory of U.S. Soldiers and Creek Nation Indians who died in the Battle of Horseshoe Bend on March 27, 1814. The visitor center and museum depicts the period of the battle and explains the equipment used by the soldiers and Creek Indians. The park is located between New Site and Dadeville on Highway 49 South. Lake Martin Amphitheater

The Amphitheater is formed on a bluff overlooking Lake Martin, just off of Highway 63 near Kowaliga Point by Russell Lands. The site has a stage area and grass seating with a capacity of more than 2,500 patrons. As an open-air site, the Amphitheater overlooks the Big Kowaliga Basin, one of the most beautiful areas on Lake Martin.

Children's Harbor

The beautiful campus located 15 miles south of Alexander City, Alabama, on Highway 63, is built around a picturesque New England seaside village motif and features the Plymouth Lighthouse and a charming little early American church, Children's Chapel. A replica of the Plymouth Lighthouse which is located on Providence Point at our Lake Martin campus, symbolizes our goal of helping children and families find their way through the treacherous waters in which they sometimes find themselves.

Lake Martin provides excellent sport fishing for largemouth bass, salt water striped bass, white bass, hybrid bass, catfish, crappie and bluegill. Lake activities include water skiing, boating, swimming and canoeing. Fishing Tournaments are often held.

Campsites directly on the water allow campers to enjoy swimming and docking boats at their own campsites.

Directions
1. Start by heading southeast on Dexter Ave toward Bainbridge St.
2. Turn right onto S Lawrence St.
3. Use the left 2 lanes to turn slightly left onto I:85 N ramp.
4. Merge with I:85 N and continue for about 50 miles.
5. Take exit 32 for AL:49 S towards Tuskegee/Reeltown.
6. Take a sharp right turn into AL:49S after exiting.
7. Continue straight until you reach Central Plank Rd in Wetumpka city limits.
8. Turn Left at this junction (Central plank road).
9. Follow central plank Road till it intersects Coosa County Road.
10. Make another Right here(onto coosa county),continue down southwards.
11. You'll find Wind Creek State Park entrance gate along this path.
