Sampson State Park was once a naval training station, then an Air Force base before becoming a state park. Military roads and buildings have been replaced with grasses, wildflowers, shrubs and trees on flat, rolling woodlands surrounding ravines. The focal point of the park is the 123-berth marina for seasonal and transient boaters. There are 245 electric campsites and 64 non-electric sites, picnic areas, playground and playing fields that include tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, a swimming beach, a recreation building, and organized activities including tours, hikes and wildlife watches. Seneca Lake is famous for its trout fishing.
Swimming
1. Sampson State Park offers a large swimming area on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake.
2. Lifeguards are present during designated hours for safety.
3. Swimming is only allowed when lifeguards are on duty due to park regulations.
4. The beach has changing rooms, showers and restrooms available for swimmers' convenience.
5. Picnic facilities near the swim area make it ideal for family outings or group activities.
6. The lake's clear water makes it popular among locals and tourists alike.

Boating
The park offers a variety of boating options for visitors. It features a marina with over 100 slips, providing ample space for private boats. Additionally, there are boat launch sites available to the public at no charge and rowboat rentals are also offered on-site. The waters around the park provide excellent opportunities for sailing as well as motor-boating due to its location along Seneca Lake - one of Finger Lakes' deepest bodies of water.
Fishing
You can enjoy fishing in the waters of Seneca Lake, home to species like Northern Pike and Smallmouth Bass. The lake also boasts Yellow Perch, Largemouth Bass, and Walleye. Trout is stocked annually for anglers' delight as well.

Some areas have steep inclines and may be challenging for novice cyclists or children.

Bike rentals aren't available within the park; bring your own equipment.

Helmets should always be worn while cycling to ensure safety on uneven terrain or in case of falls.

August 3 reservations by robert storm
park review stars; one to five We have stayed in that park several times.IT IS NOT RIGHT TO HAVE RESERVATIONS.who ever makes them donot know what they are doing.we got there on a thursday afternoon and were told we could only have 2 nights.in the loop we stayed there must have been at least 20 empty sites.i have a veterns acess pass and that did not matter.we could only have a site for 2 nites that all the sites were reserved.in the morning the sites were still empty.having to wait a month to get a discount for the acess pass is rediculous.it should be first come first serve.nys needs to make a better way to serve the people who want to use the parks.
April 1 An historical gem by J Wheeler
park review stars; one to five When we camped there a couple of years ago the well kept grasses provided an idyllic spot on Senaca Lake. Historical buildings provide viewing activities as this is not a private campground full of artificial entertainments. It is centrally located south of Geneva along the east side of the lake north of Watkins Glen in the middle of Finger Lakes wine country.
