Rockport Reservoir features first-rate, year-round fishing, waterskiing, swimming, sailboarding and sailboating. It is 45 miles east of Salt Lake City near Wanship on State Route 32. Eight campgrounds offer both developed and primitive camping in a variety of settings. Ice fishing is popular in the winter.

Many wildlife species call Rockport home. They include mule deer, chipmunks, jackrabbits, cottontails, yellowbelly marmots, badgers, raccoons, weasels, fox and Uinta ground squirrels. Elk, moose, coyote, bobcat and cougar live in the area, but are seldom seen.
History of the Area
The Rockport area was colonized in 1860. It was named for the rock fort built to protect settlers from Indian uprisings. About 200 people lived there until the land was purchased in 1957 by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for construction of the Wanship dam. Rockport Reservoir is about three miles long and one-half mile wide. At an elevation of over 6,000 feet, it covers more than 500 acres.

Visitor Comments, Memories and Reviews
July 29 Wow, incredible place! by NJ to CA girl now in UT
We just discovered Rockport State Park and it is BEAUTIFUL! I heard they have yurts for rent so we took a drive and spent a day at the lake, at the marina area. It was really nice and alot of fun! I loved the locally raised beef burger the cook grilled up for me, the live music at the shady entertainment area complete with tables and adirondack chairs, and super hospitable staff. They rent plenty of fun water toys/boats...we booked a yurt for 2 weeks out and rented a pontoon boat for that Saturday afternoon! I really cannot wait to go back there and enjoy the fun, relaxed atmosphere at the Rockport Marina - a great band will be there the weekend we are going. If I forget to bring bait or ice or firewood, I can get it all at the convenience store there (plus plenty more!), and clean any fish I get at the cleaning station. Great place to refresh my spirit! You can call the marina at 435-783-9283 or visit rockport-marina.com for more info about what is there. I want to pass on the contact info because it was hard for me to find:)
