History of the Area
The area was initially acquired by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) in the early 1940s by purchasing small parcels of land from local farmers and landowners. These acquisitions aimed to restore and manage forest ecosystems while providing recreational opportunities for the public.

In 1964, the state forest and wildlife area was officially dedicated and named in honor of Richard F. Clement. Clement was a prominent conservationist and director of the MDC from 1942 to 1962. He played a significant role in establishing wildlife conservation areas and promoting sustainable forest management practices throughout Missouri.

Directions
1. Start by heading onto US:61 N from St Louis.
2. Continue on US:61 N for approximately 60 miles until you reach Troy.
3. In Troy, take the exit toward MO:K/Winfield/Palmyra from US-61 N.
4. Merge onto S Lincoln Dr/MO:K and continue to follow MO-K for about 10 miles.
5. Turn right onto Old Cap Au Gris Rd/Old Hwy W and drive for another mile or so.
6. Next, turn left onto Pike County Road 206 (also known as Clarksville Hilltop Ave).
7. Continue straight on this road until you reach your destination at Richard F Clement Memorial State Forest.
