Rangeley State Park is located in one of Maine's most beautiful vacation regions, the western mountains. The park consists of 869 remote acres, on 10-square mile Rangeley Lake. The lake is famous for landlocked salmon and trout fishing, and anglers who voluntarily "catch and release" contribute to quality fishing. In addition to watersports, visitors enjoy hiking, picnicking, camping, wildlife watching, and photography.
Camping
The campground is small, with 50 campsites situated among fragrant spruce and fir trees, and some sites have water access. The campground and day-use areas offer picnicking, swimming, and a concrete boat launching ramp with floats. There is a children's play area, hiking trails, and modern restrooms with hot showers.
Swimming
1. Rangeley Lake State Park offers a designated swimming area on the shores of Rangeley Lake.
2. Lifeguards are not provided, so swim at your own risk.
3. The park's sandy beach is ideal for sunbathing and building sandcastles before or after swimming.
4. Swimming areas can be accessed from sunrise to sunset during summer months when water temperatures are warmer.
5. Canoeing, kayaking and paddleboarding options also provide opportunities for water-based activities in addition to traditional swimming.

Boating
The park offers a public boat launch for those who wish to explore the lake. Motorized and non-motorized boats are allowed, including canoes, kayaks, and motorboats. Fishing is also popular on the lake with species such as brook trout and landlocked salmon available. Boat rentals may be available in nearby towns if visitors do not have their own equipment.
Fishing
Anglers can enjoy freshwater fishing in a pristine setting. Species include brook trout, landlocked salmon and lake trout. Ice-fishing is popular during winter months. Boat rentals are available for deep-water trolling or fly casting along the shoreline.

Bicycling
Biking enthusiasts can explore numerous trails, though some are challenging due to steep inclines and rocky terrain.

The park's extensive network of paths offers varying difficulty levels for cyclists.

Mountain biking is popular here; however, it requires a high level of fitness and skill.

Casual bikers should stick to the easier routes as many trails have technical sections with roots or rocks.

Always wear protective gear when cycling in this area because accidents can occur on uneven surfaces.

Check weather conditions before setting out since rain could make certain pathways slippery and dangerous.

Remember that wildlife encounters may happen while riding so be alert at all times.

Avoid night-time rides as visibility decreases significantly after sunset making navigation difficult.

Ensure your bike is well-maintained - breakdowns in remote areas pose significant challenges.

Birding
Birdwatchers can enjoy spotting various species such as loons, eagles and ospreys. The park offers guided birding tours.
