| State Park Overview: |

Most of the 5,715-acre area is sandhill prairie with moderate to steep dune topography. There are also several miles of multi-row shelterbelts throughout the area, as well as windmills, solar wells, and hydrants that provide water for wildlife.
GENERAL INFORMATION
In spring, summer, and early fall, Pratt Sandhills Wildlife Area is an excellent place for wildlife watching. In addition to the game species mentioned above, songbirds, furbearers, crows, and a variety of other species may be found by the patient observer.
Township roads through Pratt Sandhills Wildlife Area are loose sand, so good judgement must be used to avoid getting stuck. Vehicle traffic is prohibited within the Sandhills, so a walk of up to two miles may be necessary to reach some of the more remote spots.
Six parking areas are provided on the main north south road through the area. Additional parking areas are illustrated on the attached map. Approximately 640 acres of the Pratt Sandhills have been designated a handicapped accessible area. Qualified individuals can obtain a key from the manager of the property to gain vehicle access. Call (620) 672-0779 for details. |

| Fishing and Hunting: |
| Upland game birds are the most commonly-hunted species at Pratt Sandhills Wildlife Area. Quail hunting is good throughout the area. Coveys tend to concentrate near food plots, shelterbelts, and large plum thickets. Pheasants are usually found in areas of heavy cover adjacent to one of the many cropfields that surround the Sandhills. Doves are also popular gamebirds at the Sandhills. Water is provided at numerous sites on the area by windmills, solar wells, and hydrants.
Almost any of these sites will provide a good place for dove hunting. Rabbits, deer, turkeys, and coyotes also are found in huntable numbers, usually around the shelterbelts.
Hunting pressure on the opening weekend of quail and pheasant season may be heavy, but after the first several weekends, the crowds decrease. In January, it is possible for a hunter to spend all day walking the Sandhills and never encounter another person. This type of hunting is rare on public areas, and many people value this solitude as much as a limit of birds. |
