Located in the heart of Mississippi?s pine belt region Paul B. Johnson State Park is the gateway to a natural wonderland marked by majestic long-leaf and loblolly pines, delicate dogwoods, and ancient oaks. The deep forests surrounding Paul B. Johnson provide a picturesque setting for a variety of outdoor activities. The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) is just a 20-minute drive to the north, making Paul B. Johnson State Park the perfect place to spend a football weekend.

Swimming
1. Paul B Johnson State Park offers a designated swimming area in Geiger Lake.
2. Lifeguards are not provided, so swim at your own risk.
3. Swimming is free with park admission fee.
4. The lake's sandy beach provides an ideal spot for sunbathing and picnicking near the water edge.
5. No pets or glass containers allowed on the beach to ensure safety of swimmers.
6. The use of personal floatation devices like life jackets is encouraged while swimming.
7. Swimming after sunset isn't permitted as per park rules.
Boating
The park offers a variety of boating options for visitors. There is a large lake within the park where guests can enjoy fishing, water skiing and jet-skiing. Boat rentals are available including paddle boats, kayaks and canoes which provide opportunities to explore the scenic surroundings at your own pace. A boat ramp is also provided for those who bring their own vessels.
Fishing
The park offers freshwater fishing in a 225-acre lake. Anglers can catch largemouth bass, bluegill and channel catfish here. There's also an option for pier or boat fishing with rental facilities available on-site. A Mississippi Fishing License is required to fish within the park boundaries.

Paul B Johnson State Park is located near Hattiesburg, Petal and Purvis

Picnicking
Paul B Johnson State Park offers numerous picnic spots with tables and grills, some overlooking the lake for scenic views.
Bicycling
Biking enthusiasts can explore the 1.7-mile Nature Trail, but be mindful of pedestrians and wildlife on this shared path.

The park's paved roads offer a safer option for cyclists; however, always stay alert to vehicular traffic.

Mountain bikers should exercise caution due to lack of designated off-road trails within the park boundaries.

Remember that helmets are recommended at all times while cycling in order to ensure safety during your visit.

Night biking is not advised as there aren't any lit paths or areas specifically designed for such activities.
Birding
The park offers birding opportunities with diverse species, including waterfowl and songbirds. Birdwatchers can explore various trails or the lake area for sightings.

park review stars; one to five MY husband and I visited this park,it is excellent,we plan to rent a cabin in the near future,it is such a beautiful park.
May 8 deserves 5 stars great park
park review stars; one to five only problem is that some guess are bringing thier dogs in swimming area taking them swimming, fetching pine cones and bathing them while children and adults are in water.(State park rules and reg.no pets allowed in or near the swimming areas)
