| State Park Overview: |
 | Lums Pond State Park is built around the largest freshwater pond in Delaware. The park features excellent fishing, sports facilities, hiking trails and more on its 1790 acres on the north side of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal. Lums Pond itself covers 200 acres, and although there is no swimming allowed, boat rentals and fishing provide water-bound recreation in the summer months. A boat launching ramp and two piers allow easy access to the water.
Before the pond existed, St. Georges Creek flowed through the hardwood forest and was the site of several Native American hunting camps. The creek was dammed in the early 1800's when the C & D canal was built. Water from the pond was used to fill the locks of the canal and power a small mill. This area was first used as a state park in 1963. |

Generally a disappointment.
They have extended the fee periods to get more money, but do not seem to be using it to maintain the park. The bathrooms, though plentiful are usually filthy and the picnic areas are in disrepair. There are just too many people in the park to enjoy it, especially if you are like me and want to have a little solitude of some sort. I have also found that the trails are not maintained well at all and there is no enforcement for keeping mountianbikers and horses off of the hiker only sections. Many of the trail markers are broken or unreadable and if a tree falls on the trail expect it to remain there for far too long.

Great Park
The lake the park is named for is absolutely beautiful. There are also free barbeques and boat rentals. If you choose a barbeque by the lake, there are plenty of trees and a decent amount of privacy. Camping is also great, although there is little cover if it rains.
