LOCKHART STATE PARK
Lockhart State Park is 263.7 acres west of Lockhart in Caldwell County. The land was deeded by private owners between 1934 and 1937. The park was constructed by Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), between 1935 and 1938 and was opened as a state park in 1948.

In August 1840, the Battle of Plum Creek was fought a few miles north of the park.
Nature of the Area
Wildlife includes deer, coyote, bobcat, fox, raccoon, opossum, armadillo, nutria, rabbit, squirrel, many varieties of birds, and several types of snakes, including rattlesnake and coral snake. Favorite catches in Clear Fork Creek are bass, catfish, and sunfish.

Fishing 101
Learn the basics of fishing through 4 hands-on stations, and take away a fishing fun pack!

Stations include how to assemble basic tackle, how to cast safely with a spin-cast rod and reel combo, fishing safety rules, and fish ecology. After the stations, why not test your new knowledge by fishing in the park? Tackle will be available to borrow through our free Tackle Loaner Program on a first come first served basis. No fishing license required. This fishing clinic is designed for kids, but all ages are welcome! Adults must accompany children.

Prepare: Bring your own bait, sun block, water, and equipment, if you have some. Wear closed-toe shoes. There is no pre-registration.

Meet: If driving from park headquarters, take your first left-hand turn, pass the campgrounds, and park along the paved loop.

Frog and Toad Watch
Discover the frogs and toads that call Lockhart State Park Home!

Learn how to identify common amphibians by sight and sound, and conduct a survey at a nearby pond! No experience required -- perfect for adults and families with kids ages six and up.

Prepare: Bring insect repellent and a flashlight. Be prepared to walk about a half a mile.

March 19 One of our favorite State Parks by The Brooks
It is a small state park with friendly staff, close to San Marcos and Austin. Good play area for kids and basketball court. A nice golf area ,small and quiet. A swimming pool for the summer. Have camped here for 25 years and keep coming back for more.

Directions
To reach the park, go 1 mile south of Lockhart on US Highway 183 to FM 20, then southwest on FM 20 for 2 miles to Park Road 10, then one mile south on Park Road 10.
