Visitor Comments, Memories and Reviews
January 27 A place worth restoring by Margaret Evans
park review stars; one to five The FRIENDS of Lincoln Trail Homestead State Park are an active committee of the Community Environmental Council of Macon Co who are working to restore this site to exemplify the historical significance it deserves. Little known, but the first home of Abraham Lincoln in Macon Co, it includes a scenic bluff overlooking the Sangamon River. The boat launch has been restored, steps redone and a native garden is planted around the memorial rock and flagpole. Visit Facebook for more information
July 22 Lincoln Trails by a girl who grew up nearby
park review stars; one to five Very lovely place. Haunted Cemetary. (if you believe) Very peaceful. Nice place to have a birthday party in the summer. Good place to take your kids fishing at the river. No canoe/kayack access unless the river is low enough, but the access is past the park going south, and on the right hand side before the bridge you will see a trail that goes right down to the river. If the river is low enough, you can sit right in the middle of it and enjoy some basking in the sun
July 3 Neglected Lincoln Site by Ron Wagner
park review stars; one to five After a bitter winter Abraham canoed from here to New Salem on the Sangamon River, which cuts through this site. His family went further south. It is pretty but neglected. Kayak access is a little difficult. No camping facilities. Restrooms are OK. Worth exploring. May be improved in the future.
