State Park Overview:
Lying along Lake Huron, Lakeport State Park provides southeast Michigan residents access to the Great Lakes. The park has two distinct units separated by the village of Lakeport. A total of 250 sites are divided between the two campgrounds. All sites have a picnic table, fire circle, electricity, modern toilet/shower buildings along with several pull-through sites and camp pads for ease of leveling campers. Metal detecting area. Lakeport State Park is taking reservations for its new camper cabin located on beautiful Lake Huron. The camper cabin is ideal for families looking to enjoy a camping experience but don't have a tent or a camper. The cabin sleeps six, has two bedrooms, each with its own set of bunk beds, and a full-size sleeper sofa located in the living room/kitchen area. All three rooms are equipped with electric heat. The living room/kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator, microwave and movable counter/cabinet unit for storing dishes and supplies. Outside, the cabin has its own fire circle, picnic table and grill.

Great Accomodations

Lakeport was very hospitable when I visited last season. I enjoyed the modern shower and restroom area along with fairly large campsite accomidations. There is a wonderful beach area in the park with direct access to lake Huron. The beach was a bit rocky but the sunrise was to die for. I definatly plan on visiting again this Summer.

Picnicking:
The Franklin Delano Roosevelt (south) unit of Lakeport State Park is a day use area situated one mile south of the camping area and is also adjacent to Lake Huron. Visitors can enjoy the beach, and there are many areas for secluded picnics, bird watching, or just relaxing. The day-use area provides many picnic tables and barbecue grills plus horseshoe pits and volleyball nets. Highway US-25 runs through the park and divides the day use area into two areas. A pedestrian overpass provides the day user access to both these areas.

One picnic shelter located in the day-use area may be rented on a daily basis for group activities and family reunions. For reservations contact the park at (810)327-6224.

Both campgrounds have a variety of play equipment for youngsters.
