Swimming
Lake Shetek State Park offers a sandy beach for swimming on the shores of Lake Shetek. No lifeguards are present; swim at your own risk. The designated swimming area is marked and separate from boating channels. Restrooms and changing facilities available nearby for convenience. Picnic areas adjacent to the beach provide spots for relaxation after swimming.
Fishing
Anglers can enjoy shore fishing or boat angling in the area's largest lake. Common catches include walleye, northern pike, crappie, and bullheads. Fishing docks are available for easy access to deeper waters. Ice fishing is popular during winter months with shelters dotting the frozen surface.

Picnicking
Lake Shetek State Park offers scenic picnic areas with tables and grills overlooking the lake. Picnic shelters are available for rent.
Bicycling
Cyclists can enjoy the paved, 6-mile loop of the Lake Shetek Bike Trail that winds through scenic landscapes. For off-road enthusiasts, there are several miles of grassy trails offering a more rugged experience. The park connects to the Casey Jones State Trail for extended rides outside its boundaries. Remember to check trail conditions before heading out; they can vary with weather and seasons.
Birding
The park offers diverse birding habitats, including wetlands, prairie and woodland areas. Birdwatchers can spot waterfowl like ducks and geese around the lake's shores. Migratory songbirds such as warblers are common in spring and fall seasons within the wooded regions of the park.

Look for raptors overhead; bald eagles and hawks frequent this area throughout various times of year. The tallgrass prairie is home to grassland species like meadowlarks, bobolinks, sparrows, while woodpeckers inhabit forested sections.

Bird enthusiasts may also observe great blue herons near marshy spots or catch glimpses of wild turkeys roaming through underbrush zones during their visit.
