Cabins
Cabins

Our cabins are located on the south side of the Tennessee River near Wheeler Dam. This is a great area that is accessible to both Wheeler and Wilson lakes. There is a boat ramp for Wheeler lake within the cabin area and a boat ramp for Wilson lake within 1/2 mile. Our brick cabins are on a hill that overlooks Wheeler Lake. We also have wood cabins within this area, but they are not lakeside.

We have cabins that will accommodate from 4 persons up to 15. This area is a favorite with fisherman and many return year after year. We also host numerous family reunions and church retreats.

Cabins are equipped for basic housekeeping and cooking. Linens are provided. Cabins have TV's with basic Dish Network programing.

Cottages

These ten newly constructed lakeside cottages are located in the mouth of First Creek, have two or three bedrooms. All have TV's with satellite reception and DVD players in the great room. Cottages have central heat & air, fireplaces and are equipped with a stove, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, toaster and coffee maker. Cottages are supplied with linens, tableware and cookware.
Camping
The campground is a favorite among campers and features large, level sites among towering pines. There are 116 campsites in the improved campground - 110 sites with full hook-ups, which includes water, electric and sewage hook-ups. Joe Wheeler Resort State Park also has a primitive campground in which guests can use the bathhouse located in the adjacent C loop of the campground. These sites do not have electrical hook-ups, but water hydrants are located in this area. Each loop in the campground has a modern bathhouse with hot showers. Park staff clean bathhouses daily.

Picnicking
Joe Wheeler's day use picnic facilities include large picnic pavilions, a sandy beach swimming area, tennis courts, basketball courts, horseshoe pits, large open playing field and ample shoreline for bank fisherman. A limited amount of recreational equipment is available for checkout. Trailheads are also located in this area with trails that wind through the park and along the shoreline. The setting for the day use area is in a cove off of the main Tennessee River. It is a very picturesque spot that offers fantastic river views. It is within walking distance of our campground.
Trails
Joe Wheeler Resort State Park's most popular hiking is a trail system located between the Day Use Area and the Resort Lodge. This trail network consists of approximately 2.5 miles of trails. The Southside cabin area hosts a 2.5 looped multi-use trail for hikers and mountain bikers. The trailhead is accessed from AL Hwy. 101 near Wheeler Dam and the cabin area.

January 15 Bobby is right! by 11 point
My wifes family has been comming here every year for a week stay since 1981.Since we been married in 1998 i have came with them. They are fisherman to and bring two or more boats. The boat dock this year was down right dangerous. The dock was leanning to the left bad! We to have asked for a security light so you can see at dark so you dont step on a snake or in something else! Since there is no bathroom or portajohn.I dont think this is to much to ask for. When the lodge & marina are very nice.
September 21 Idea to Bobby by Linda Warner
Comment to Bobby who visited May 10, 2011. My idea is that someone contact the Boy Scouts of America with this repair need. Surely some young Life Scout would love to take it upon himself to help earn his Eagle badge. This is a State Park after all that we are talking about and we all know how funds are being cut now days. But an Eagle Scout would surely save the day on this one and it would help him out too.
August 19 Quiet Camping by Patricia Cochran Day
Get over it Bobby. We love Joe Wheeler. Are all of you aware of the national cutbacks in funding for our park? Get involved and stop whinning. ONLY YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
August 8 Beautiful Park by SelenainTN
This was the best state park we have visited. Loved the fact we had sewer hook up and could take a shower in our own camper. We had a 3 camper caravan and was able to stay next to each other. The weekend was wonderful and the people were even better. We loved it so much we are planning to go back for Sept long weekend. :)
May 10 Beautiful place to go EXCEPT... by Bobby
With loving to fish, we rent a cabin and stay a few days a coule times a yr. Every yr we have seen the boat ramp and dock on the cabin side deteriorate. It has got worse every yr, with promises of repairs every yr, we have seen NONE. It is just about unusable. This is sad! Our complaints go unheard. We are not asking for perfection, just a usable dock and boat ramp, IS THIS TO MUCH TO ASK FOR? We have made numurous phone calls and emails to complain and ask for help in getting this done and it goes to deaf ears. This has continued for the last 4 yrs, all we hear is we are going to repair this dock, and never see anything happen, and this happens after being passed around like phone tag.
December 29 more attention to detail
A great time and place for my family to meet for Christmas 2010. However, a little more attention to detail in the cabins as to cleaning and fixing things that are broken would help. Also, kitchens not equipped very well. However, would do again. Great park. Staff very helpful
August 24 The Moose are Loose by Barbara

May 29 Great for family time. by Amber Clemons
We came with our kids and a friend and just really enjoyed it. We hiked, swam and just really had a great time. Now days you cant take your kids anywhere that is good for them well this place sure was I loved it and already making plans to come back soon.
May 11 Good fishing spot to stay at
Restaurant needs better prices along with better food. It would also be nice to have wireless WiFi in the rooms. Replace the TV wiring with new as well as replace those old TV sets. Other than that, its pretty good.
December 28 Great family time by the Ivys
We surprised our husband, father, grandfather for his 60th birthday in October. The kids played outside, rode bikes, and went to the lake and playground. The cottages were spacious, comfortable, and well-appointed. We are looking forward to a return visit.
April 9 One of our favorites by Fair Majesty
We came by boat and the marina is wonderful, as are the people here. Golf course and cottages - Wow! On our way to dinner at the Lodge resturaunt now. Great Place! Many stars.
