| National Park Overview: |
 | Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge, a haven for migratory birds and other wildlife, lies on the Big Mineral Arm of Lake Texoma, on the Red River between Oklahoma and Texas. The refuge is made up of water, marsh, and upland habitat and visitors can hike, observe wildlife, hunt, fish at various times throughout the year.
The main focus at Hagerman NWR is providing a winter home for thousands of waterfowl. Foremost among the waterfowl are Canada geese. During fall, winter, and spring, numbers can reach 7,500 or more. Other geese include white-fronted and snow geese, with a scattering of the smaller Ross' geese. |

Awesome place to view wintering birds
Great park. Well worth the visit. The auto route is ideal for birders with limited mobility. My eight year old and I enjoyed a wonderful hike -- spotting an armadillo but alas not seeing the ferral hogs. Wintering birds are there by the thousands -- breathtaking when they take flight. We also saw at least a dozen heron not to mention a host of other birds.

Strange but beautiful & loaded w birds
Wife&I enjoyed many species off season (July, 100+ hot); oil derricks thruout detract somewhat; Interesting history; Changing water levels create barren shores, not prettiest but creates wide-open viewscapes. No hand-feeding!

Always find something to see there
The recent rains have left lots of standing water but two trails are surfaced and hike-able! Hikers saw roseate spoonbill and osprey Saturday. We like the nature programs on the Second Saturday of each month.

Geese are coming in now
Drive along Wildlife Drive and see the large flocks of geese- more arriving daily - they browse in green fields awhile then go for a dip in Lake Texoma - stay in your car for best viewing!

| Trails: |
| Hiking
The interpretive Crow Hill Trail, off Silliman Road, offers a close look at native prairie habitat. Hiking/foot access is restricted only during hunting seasons. Hikers should watch for poisonous snakes. Insect repellant is suggested during warm weather as protection from ticks and chiggers. |
| Fishing and Hunting: |
| Fishing:
Fishing in Lake Texoma is permitted year-round in accordance with state regulations, during daylight hours only. To protect waterfowl, fishing in refuge ponds is allowed only from April through September. Trot lines may not be attached to any fixed objects (jug-to-jug only). Fishing from bridges is prohibited.
Hunting: Dove, Quail, Squirrel, and Rabbit Hunting
Small game hunting is by shotgun only. No shell with larger than No. 4 shot size permitted. No rifles or handguns are permitted. Dogs may be used during the hunt, but must be under the control of the handler at all times.
Hunt Days: Dove hunting is permitted from September 1 to September 30. Quail hunting is permitted from February 1 to the end of the state season. Squirrels and rabbits may be hunted during both the dove and quail hunts.
Hunt Areas: The hunting area will be posted as "Public Hunting Area." Hunters must check in and out at the self-permitting check boxes.
Permits: Each hunter must have a permit. Permits are self-issued at check boxes located at the entrances to the hunt areas. Take a permit card, fill in the left side, tear it off and place it in the box. The right half is your permit. Fill it in on completion of your hunt and place the permit in the same box before leaving the hunt area.
This hunt is strictly recreational. Population control is not an objective. |
