History of the Area
Originally, this area was part of a much larger tract of land known as Franklin State Forest, which was established in 1909 by the New York State Legislature. The purpose of creating this forest was to conserve and manage the land's natural resources, primarily for timber production and wildlife preservation.

Over time, Franklin State Forest was divided into smaller parcels, one of which became Franklin State Forest Number Two. The specific reason for the division is unclear, but it could have been done to better manage and regulate the forest resources.
