| State Park Overview: |
 | The Flambeau River State Forest was officially established in 1930. Beginning with 3,600 acres in public ownership, the forest has since grown to include 90,000 acres. Northern hardwood species such as sugar maple, red maple, yellow birch and white ash dominate the forest, which creates a spectacular fall display.
The North and South Forks of the Flambeau River combine within the forest to provide over 75 miles of nearly uninterrupted natural beauty and white water excitement. The river is a major life force of the forest and along its tree-lined shores one can see deer, wolves, raccoon, black bear, otter, bald eagles and ospreys.
Canoeing is the most popular activity on the forest. Different portions of the river offer varying degrees of difficulty. The North Fork is ideal for the novice, while South Fork is for the advanced canoeist. Musky, sturgeon, trout, walleye, bass, and panfish can be caught from the river as well as the lakes in the forest. The forest is open to public hunting for bear, waterfowl, deer and grouse, just to name a few. |

best muskie fishing around
WOW!!! I fish this river for a week every year and catch many smallies and at least 2 or 3 muskies during the week. I have even caught 3 sturgeon while fishing with worms for bass!!! The grouse hunting this year is amazing. I saw about 25 birds in 1 day and got my limit.

My birth place
I was born and raised on the Flambeau. My parents owned the Dix-Dox Resort. I wish that my children could have had the wonderful opportunity that I had growing up on the most beautiful river in the U. S. The Flambeau was the central part of our lives; our communication with neighbors, our recreation and our calendar of the arrival of spring (crashing of ice on the bridge breakers) and the coming of fall.

Flambeau the beautiful
Our family and friends take a weekend canoe trip down the south fork of the Flambeau every year. I have traveled far and wide in this country but this river is just amazing. Always so clean and it never seizes to amaze me. Every year she changes but still remains the same. I cherish her. I am from NW WI and this is our secret treasure.
