Cherokee Landing State Park is located in the Cookson Hills, south of Tahlequah and next to Lake Tenkiller. The park features RV hookups with electric/water, primitive campsites, restrooms with showers, lighted boat ramp, swimming beach, playgrounds and a softball field.
History of the Area
Located in Oklahoma, the park was established in 1969. It spans over 146 acres and is managed by the state's tourism department.

The area has a rich history with Native American tribes, particularly Cherokees who were forced to relocate here during the Trail of Tears.

It offers various recreational activities such as camping, fishing and boating due to its location on Lake Tenkiller reservoir.

In recent years it underwent renovations including new cabins built for visitors' accommodation.

Swimming
1. Cherokee Landing State Park offers a designated swimming area in Lake Tenkiller.
2. No lifeguards are on duty, so swim at your own risk.
3. Swimming is free with park admission.
4. The lake's clear water makes it ideal for swimmers of all ages and skill levels.
5. Visitors can also enjoy snorkeling activities within the permitted areas of the lake.
6. The beach area provides easy access to shallow waters suitable for children or beginner swimmers.
7. Picnic tables near the shore allow families to relax while enjoying their day out by the water.

Boating
The park offers a variety of boating options for visitors. It features a lighted boat ramp, making it easy to launch boats at any time of the day or night. The lake is suitable for both motorized and non-motorized watercraft including canoes, kayaks and paddleboats which are available for rent on-site. Fishing boats with electric trolling motors may also be rented from the marina store in addition to fishing supplies.
Fishing
Enjoy fishing in a serene environment, with options for bank or boat angling. Species include catfish, crappie and bass.

Picnicking
Cherokee Landing State Park offers numerous picnic areas with tables, grills and stunning lake views. Some sites have pavilions available.
Bicycling
For biking enthusiasts, the park offers a variety of trails suitable for different skill levels.

The terrain varies from flat to hilly and can be challenging.

Bikers should always wear helmets due to uneven surfaces on some paths.

Children must be supervised while cycling as there are areas with steep inclines or declines.

Be aware that shared-use trails require yielding to pedestrians and horseback riders.

Nighttime bicycling is not recommended because lighting along the pathways is limited.

Check weather conditions before planning your ride; wet grounds may make certain routes slippery and dangerous.

Remember: safety first! Always follow trail signs, stay hydrated, respect wildlife distance rules, keep noise down & leave no trace behind you.
Trails
1. Cherokee Trail: This is a 4-mile loop trail that offers scenic views of the lake and surrounding forest, suitable for all skill levels.

2. Lakeview Nature Trail: A short but beautiful 0.5 mile trail with stunning lakeside vistas; it's ideal for bird watching or just enjoying nature.

3. Deer Run Hiking Pathway: At approximately one mile in length, this pathway winds through dense woods providing opportunities to spot local wildlife including deer and squirrels.

4. Bluebird Walking Track: An easy half-mile walk perfect for families with young children or those looking to enjoy a leisurely stroll amidst natural beauty.

5. Sycamore Stroll Looping Route: With its moderate difficulty level over two miles long, hikers can expect an array of terrain changes from flatlands to slight inclines surrounded by sycamores trees on both sides.

6. Wildflower Wander Waypoint: Spanning about three-quarters of a mile, this path boasts fields full of wildflowers during springtime making it popular among photographers as well as casual walkers alike.

7. Oak Ridge Ramble Roadway: Approximately four miles long, this route takes you along ridges lined with oak trees offering panoramic views at certain points throughout your hike.

8. Pine Passageway Promenade: Stretching across five miles, it's known not only for pine forests but also wetland areas where waterfowl sightings are common.

9. Birdwatcher's Bliss Boulevard: Just under two-miles-long, it features numerous species native birds which makes it highly recommended amongst avid bird watchers.

10. Sunset Serenity Saunter: As the name suggests, a tranquil evening walk around one-and-a-half-miles showcasing breathtaking sunset scenes reflecting off the park's serene waters.
Birding
The park offers birdwatching opportunities with a variety of species, including waterfowl and songbirds. Birders can explore the five-mile trail system for sightings.
