BLITCH STATE PARK
BLITCH STATE PARK
Blitch State Park is a small but charming public recreation area. It offers picnic spots and camping facilities amidst serene natural surroundings. The park also features a playground for children and provides opportunities for fishing or simply relaxing by the peaceful pond.

History of the Area
The park was established in 1937. It's named after local businessman and politician Benjamin B. Blitch.

The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) developed it during the Great Depression as part of New Deal programs.

It spans over 1,634 acres with a variety of recreational activities including camping, hiking trails and water sports on George L Smith Lake.

In recent years there have been improvements to facilities such as campsites and picnic areas for visitors' convenience.

Directions
Directions from Atlanta, Georgia to Blitch State Park:

- Start on I-75 S/I-85 S.
- Continue onto GA 401S (signs for Domestic Airport/Montgomery).
- Take exit 238B towards Augusta/GA138 E.

Driving through Stockbridge and Conyers:

- Follow signs for Interstate 675 N/US23N/Atlanta. Merge with I285E
- Use the right two lanes to take Exit number 46 toward Lawrenceville/Augusta.

Entering into Covington:

- Keep left at fork in road; follow signs for US278E/SR12/Covington/Oxford.

Getting closer to Athens:

- Turn slightly right onto Turner Lake Rd NW then turn left after McDonald's (on your left).

Final stretch of journey:

- Drive straight until you reach a roundabout where you will take the second exit staying on Alcovy Road SE till it becomes Elm Street NE which leads directly into Blitch State Park.
