Wisconsin Parks Visitor Reviews
4/23/2012 4:15:35 PM Roche a Cri State Park
Stairs - I love going to this park. Are the stairs completed yet?
12/14/2011 Tower Hill State Park by not ok
beautiful - its the prettiest place i ever saw
10/31/2011 Chequamegon National Forest by walter
A very beautiful place fishermans heaven - I just rented a place in the Chequamegon National Forest on 9 acres of land a 1550 sq. foot 2 bedroom home near Drummond WI
Great Kayaking - I enjoyed kayaking the Rock river and canals north of the city of Horicon. We saw and heard a good deal of wildlife, including sandhill cranes, geese, duck, and muskrat. Our visit was around the start of the fall migration.
8/23/2011 Pattison State Park by Paula Johnson-Hedge
Childhood memories - Went here so often as a child...our family would picnic and swim for the day, since it was so close to our hometown of Superior. Many memories, but when I went back a couple of years ago, one of my favorite summer sounds was hearing those big screen doors slam! Funny how something so little can become so special...
Excellent place to go swimming. - I was there on July 8th, 2011 and the water was excellent and clean. The beach had an excellent crowd with all ages. My dog also enjoyed his swim at the beach. I will like to go there again and I do recommend other visitors to visit the beach.
Great get away - Very nice campground. Right next to a nice, clean lake. The bathrooms are not the greatest, but its something to go to the bathroom in.
Army worms galore! - We hiked this 6/11/11 and we were dodging army worms and their webs the entire way. Massive amounts of them! Another negative is that the area is highly populated with poison ivy. It was not a spectacular hike by any means.
please clean it up. - we have lived in new lisbon for 10 years and have gone to buckhorn lake to swim when it was free now we have to pay and that would be fine. but where are the park maintance people the swim area is a mess all along the beach theres branches, debris and grass growing in sections of the sand it looked better when it was free.we dont mind paying. but we would like to come to a clean swim area.the way it looks now i wouldent pay a penny to swim at the lake.please clean it up.
Start a Wisconsin River Trip Here - We stayed at the park before starting a trip down the Wisconsin River. It was right on the river, which made it perfect for our purposes. The campsites are an average size for a Wisconsin state park and all wooded. Facilities were clean and well maintained. Since it is a smaller campground, it was very quiet and peaceful at all times. Bring your bug spray-- the mosquitoes also like to camp out next to the river.
Rare Piece of History - History buffs, do yourself a favor and visit this park. A bit of a climb to tower and to shot tunnel but well worth the effort. Frank Lloyd Wright museum nearby.

Bootiful - It was absolutely bootiful like the stars twinkiling at night and the water and waves calming sound great campsite....railroad was close so that sucked but it was bootiful id go back in a heartbeat
12/29/2010 Roche a Cri State Park by Donna
No xx-skiing - Drove from Appleton to xx-ski only to find no trails have been groomed for skiing. Considering we have a state parks sticker, we could not use the park as it is designated in the Wisconsin Travel Guide. This information should have been listed on the park website.
11/28/2010 Blue Mound State Park by Ruedi
Mountain bike challenge - Great technical mountain biking!
11/28/2010 Flambeau River State Forest by Chad Steenberg
A historic time capsule - My family has traveled to this area for about a century. My Grandfather and Grandmother (Herb and Sally Steenberg) frequented the Dix Dox resort with their children (Bob and Bill). I drive past the once beautiful resort (now boat landing) every time I head to the woods to hunt. Truly the most sentimental area for me and my dad. I have heard many fantastic stories of the Harz family that my family knew so well that owned this resort.
11/23/2010 Flambeau River State Forest by Neal Brunner
Heaven on Earth even without Dix Dox - I first experienced this beautiful area in the 1950s, staying at Dix Dox resort and hunting grouse and whitetail deer. I go back many times to canoe the Flambeau and marvel at how stunning this area has remained.
11/5/2010 Chequamegon National Forest by Nancy
You have a great chance of seeing elk ! -
10/15/2010 Ojibwa State Park by Matayas
Beautifully restored & improved - Gorgeous park with a lot of recent upgrades, improvements and restorations. Quiet, like a park SHOULD be, but still in easy reach of the tourist spots. Our kids loved the little bridge over the stream.
9/12/2010 Terry Andrae State Park by Steve M
Our Favorite - You have a great beach to walk or run on, awesome trails to hike, wildlife to see, campsites not too close to each other, nice nature center, and clean facilities. But VERY busy place and hard to get reservations plus can be very cold!
9/12/2010 Governor Dodge State Park by Dave & Penny
our favorite WI State Park - Our fist time to Gov Dodge, great site, clean bathrooms, then the trails...Great. Would love to know more about the Stephans Family and their homestead
9/8/2010 Blue Mound State Park by ebouzek
beautiful! - This is a beautiful location ! Great hiking trails ! The campsites are large and heavily wooded. No bugs! Nice pool for swimming too! Close to Cave of the Mounds
stairs are closed - yes the steps are closed and it is posted on the DNR website, at the office, and at the steps. Steps are missing and the wood is in very bad shape. They hope to start replacing them this fall and hope to have them open mid summer 2011. Check the Wi DNR website under Roche-A-Cri to know they are open. To you who is mad that you got a fine of $175 you should be happy the max fine is $263. Maybe you should think before going into a closed area!
9/6/2010 Roche a Cri State Park by Whatever
Just Read..... - It clearly states in several places that the stairs are closed, and long before you have to pay any fee. Oh, and wood does have a tendency to rot....so that makes it a bad park? Wow.
9/3/2010 Devils Lake State Park by KLMay
One of my favorite state parks!!! - There are so many interesting things to see at the park. Lots of history if you know where to look.
stellar park! - love the mountain bike trail
Everything a camper could dream of here. - We just returned from a trip with a large group (about 11 people). We stayed 4 days and had a blast. We occupied 2 campsites in the Cox Hollow Camping area. Each site is wooded and private with foliage in between and all around. Each site can fit about 2 cars and 2 tents with some sites larger. There are 2 seperate, well maintained beaches, boat/canoe and paddle boad rentals. Clean bathrooms - with hot showers, power (if you need it), water for coffee, cooking and drinking in numerous places. There are seemingly endless hiking and biking trails that are georgeous. I would highly recommend this park to anyone.
8/16/2010 Roche a Cri State Park by bac1713
One of our favorite state parks - This is one of our favorites and we go to state parks all over the state of WI. We enjoy the small number of sites, quiet, well kept. The stairs are not the only attraction - and it is posted online that they are closed until further notice.
8/6/2010 Roche a Cri State Park by Roche-a-Cri is a bad park.
Dont go the stairs are closed. - Went Aug 2010, paid park fee, stairs closed, they wait for you to use them and give a $175 fine per person. Will be closed at least another year.
8/1/2010 Devils Lake State Park by ebouzek
one of the best! - This park is simply one of the best we have been to in the state of wisconsin! Great hiking, views and the lake is wonderful! Fishing is great! The kids always catch something!!! We go back over and over! Watch out for the very smart raccoons!
National Discovery - Devils Lake State Park is the perfect place to go if you want some adventure and natural wildlife.
Just Right - Yup, this was just right. Not too big, not too small. Quiet at night and gorgeous. Highly recommend staying here.
6/18/2010 Terry Andrae State Park by Jodi McDaniel
I grew up at Terry Andrae - This park has it all. Camping, great hiking trails, a board walk thru the sand dunes, long walks on the beach, playing in the waves, building sand castles, exploring the paths between the parking lot and beach, skipping rocks, and visiting the nature center with a roof top view of the lake.
Since I Was Little - I have been going to Point Beach as long I can remember. Now I am so exited to start bringing my own family here!
5/22/2010 Copper Culture Mounds State Park by IgelOconto

5/10/2010 Wild Rose State Fish Hatchery by Scout guy
Scouts learned much on hatchery tour - 10 Scouts visited on Sat. May 8th. Shown a video, and then given a tour of the facility. Tour guide was knowledgable and interesting, and took time to answer the many questions. Awesome experience. Thanx.
Clean and beutiful - just spent all of mothers day exploring the many wonderful areas of this forest. Every area we came across was clean, even the more rustic outhouses.
4/16/2010 Wildcat Mountain State Park by Jake Matteson
We love this park! - Canoeing on the Kickapoo is awesome!! We bring a group of 30-75 people every year, and they love it.
4/14/2010 Wildcat Mountain State Park by Anytime Fitness, Tomah WI
Great Hiking Trails - Beautiful Hiking trails...with easy to moderate routes. We loved the trails through the pine groves! Very scenic!
4/11/2010 High Cliff State Park by Irene Petrik
Horseback riding at High Cliff State Par - The park is doing a great dis-service by not opening the park to trail riding for horses before May 1, 2010. This year spring is early and Hartman Creek and N. Kettle Moraine IS open.
4/1/2010 High Cliff State Park by roxie bredael
overnight camping for me and my horse - I live 2 hours away. riding and then being able to sleep overnight would be great.
3/22/2010 High Cliff State Park by Linda Rue
Overnight horse camping and more trails! - I love riding at High Cliff with my horses and wish there were more trails and overnight camping for my friends who travel to ride there. Overnight camping with horses would be a perfect fit!
3/11/2010 High Cliff State Park by Julie
More Horse Trails! - Please add more trails for horse use. Multi-use is ok too!
3/11/2010 Kettle Moraine State Forest by Julie
Horse Riders Campground in Palmyra - Great Trails. Would love to see some water crossings on trails. Also would enjoy camping more often if there was electric available on sites! And if trenching for electric, water would be nice too! And showers for people!
I just love the park the beach is great. - I could sit on the beach all day listening to the waves and feeling the breeze in my face..
Great park! - Would love to see more horse trails! Overnight camping for horses would be great too.
3/3/2010 High Cliff State Park by S. Schad
Good day ride. - Currently High Cliff is a good day ride destination. More trails, or overlap with some of the hiking trails, would be even better. I am also an avid snowmobiler, so why not more snowmobile trails (winter) and horse trails (summer) like in the Kettles?
2/28/2010 High Cliff State Park by horseownerinWI
Horse camping - Nothing beats being able to camp with our horses. Considering the distance we travel to ride here, it would be great to over-night it.
2/27/2010 High Cliff State Park by Shawn Christenson
More horse trails and overnight camping! - We really lack overnight camping and horse trails in Northeast Wisconsin!!! I would love to give business to this area of the state. We could use some more local horse trails and horse camping!!!
2/27/2010 High Cliff State Park by Patty
Great park! Needs horse camping. - My husband and I drove up there last year to check it out as a possible day ride outing for our saddle club. We really liked the park; however, it was just too far to drive for a day ride. If the park had overnight camping for horseback riders we would be one of the first to camp there adding it our list of yearly trips. I have to believe there are many other saddle clubs and equine association that would as well. Please consider adding a horse camp and more trails to this beautiful Park.
2/27/2010 High Cliff State Park by Joanne
Nice horse trails - Like your horse trails, wish you had more and it would be nice to have overnight camping.
more trails needed - I was at your park last year and like the trails. I live almost 2 hours away from the park so I am driving longer then it takes me to do the trails. If there were more trails I would be more willing to go to the park. If there was a horse campground there I would love that! Please consider putting in a campground. Horse people like to camp too and if they can take their horses that makes it even better! Thanks
Camping w/ Horses - What a great location.....trails are amazing and would LOVE to see overnight camping for horses.
1/26/2010 High Cliff State Park by Tanya
Horse Trails - I love your horse trail, but feel you should have more of them. You could link them to another park. Overnight camping would also be great.
keep horse trails going -
Horse trails - I enjoy the horse trails at the park, but it would be really nice to have overnight camping. Seems like there is more than enough room and it would certainly generate more income.
1/19/2010 High Cliff State Park by Karen
over nite horse camping would be great - Having an overnite camping at high cliff would be a fantastic thing, it would get used lots, and more trails to ride would be a great thing also.
Overnite camping - Overnite camping for horse and rider would be great!
1/18/2010 High Cliff State Park by Michele
Horse Trails are a true Blessing - We love to ride @ High Cliff! It is a great place to take our sons! I would like to see the trails grow, connecting into the Calumet system would be nice. The day parking is great. It would be great if there was a separate over-night camping area that allowed the horses as well. Thank You for a beautiful park! Keep you the good work.
More of the same! - Would like to enjoy more of the same trails, plus overnite accmodations.
1/16/2010 High Cliff State Park by Diane Sauer
Nice Horse Trails - It would be great to have overnite camping for us horse people and also more horse trails.

Horse gal with lots of horse friends!!! - Park is great but wish there were trails for horses and overnight camping, we are always looking for new places to go with 30+ ladies in tow!!!!
1/14/2010 Wildcat Mountain State Park by Patti Mulcahy
Gorgeous, well-maintained horse trails - Of all the places I go riding, Wildcat remains a favorite. The trails are beautiful and well-maintained, marked clearly, and offer riding suitable for all abilities. Wonderful!
1/14/2010 High Cliff State Park by Peggy Dahlin
Beautiful Horse Trails at High Cliff - The horse trails are wonderful, along with the scenery and wildlife. Connecting the trails from High Cliff to Calumet Cty Park would add much more riding and much more interest and use of the park. Having horse camping available would be a benefit not only to the people, but to the park growth and status. There is alot of horse involvement in Wisconsin which brings in millions of dollars, and a horse camp should seriously be considered.
1/14/2010 High Cliff State Park by Dawn K
overnight camping - We would love to see overnight camping for the horses. I love riding the horses trails currently available but would love to be able to camp or have more trails available.
Great park - Would LOVE to see extended trails & OVERNIGHT horse camping!!!!
1/13/2010 High Cliff State Park by Laurie
no camping? - This park needs more trails and overnight camping for horses!
1/13/2010 High Cliff State Park by Windyrock
Horse Trails - Beautiful horse trails go through woods and around open fields. They are great. This park could improve by providing overnight camping for people with horses. We typically have to drive more than 2 hours to camp overnight with our horses. If this park had overnight camping, we would only need to drive 60 minutes! More horse trails would be a wonderful.
1/13/2010 High Cliff State Park by equynelvr
Love new adventures - I absolutely love being able to make a weekend out of a horse adventure. Parks with great trails and campgrounds make that possible. Please provide more opportunities.
1/12/2010 High Cliff State Park by Fran
Nice Trails - Love High CLiff! Nice place to ride horses....Hike...and or Picnic. It is pretty close so its nice just for a few hours or camping..
1/12/2010 High Cliff State Park by Horse Lover
Thanks for the Horse Trails - This is our favorite place to do a day ride during the summer. Nice cool breeze most days and very few bugs. Also with cost of gas this trail is very close for alot of people with horses. Would love to have more trails and a horse campground.
Love the Horse Trails - Nice Trails, the more the better..I would like to see more trails that carts will be able to use. Water for the horses would be a very nice addition.
Fantastic Horse Trails! - We love the horse trails at High Cliff - go riding there a lot, but wish we could stay overnight with our horses. Hope that will be a reality in the future - would be great to connect to Calumet Co. trails as well.
1/11/2010 High Cliff State Park by Swollen Creek Farm
Great place to take the horses - Lovely park and not so far from Milwaukee, all horse people should visit this park. Looking forward to our next visit.
A Great Park - More horse trails and overnight camping would be greatly appreciated.
1/11/2010 High Cliff State Park by lori gottsacker
horse back riding and horse camping - i spend alot of my time in the spring summer and fall riding and camping and would love a new place to go. i have camped with my family and would love to go with my horses. my group of friends have looked into high cliff but the amount of trails is few more trails would bring me and alot of riders to the park thank you lori gottsacker
1/11/2010 High Cliff State Park by Nancy Brandt
Horse Trails - Hoping consideration for more horse trails and overnight camping with our horses might be in the future. This is a lovely place to visit.
1/10/2010 High Cliff State Park by Jeanne
Beautiful state park - I really enjoy riding the horse trails at High Cliff, although currently it is not permissible to camp overnight with our horses. I think it would draw more horse people to the park if overnight camping would be available. Also a trail connecting High Cliff State Park and Calumet County Park would be a fantastic addition to the existing beautiful trails, and I think it would draw in a lot of riders from all over the state.
Great Park - Wish there was an area for horse camping. Would like to see more horse trails.
1/9/2010 Hartman Creek State Park by Irene Petrik
Horseback Riding in the Park - I enjoy using the horseback riding trails in the park. The new loop past the dam is nice. The expanded parking lot with picnic tables is so appreciated. I would like to see more horse trails, water available for horses, bathrooms at the parking lot and horse camping available.
More Trails For Horses - Would love to see some trails for horses and a place for overnite camping with the horses! Thanks, Shelly Heider
1/8/2010 High Cliff State Park by Jackie Pues
Horse back rider - Enjoy the trails for horse backriding. It would really be nice to be able to ride from High Cliff to Calumet Co. park. Overnight camping with horses would be icing on the cake!
1/8/2010 High Cliff State Park by prmulcahy
Beautiful horse trails! - We visit High Cliff several times a year to ride the trails and just love them. It would be great to see more trails and overnight camping for horses!
Nice Trails - I really enjoy the Hartman Creek trails. It has been a good place to work with fresh horses and allows them to get use to strange noises in a safe environment. The parking lot is large enough to accommodate a lot of horse trailers. I would make the suggestion of adding a water source at the parking lot, a permanent bathroom, and maybe a few horse campsites as well.
1/8/2010 Hartman Creek State Park by Sue Wallrich
Horse Trails - Being a horseback rider, I enjoy the trails in the parks. Please maintain the trails and add more if possible. Horseback riding is one of the fastest growing activities in Wisconsin.
More Horse Trails - Longer Season - We would like to see more equine trails and overnight camping areas for the horses. Ride these trails often, new/expanded trails would be greatly appreciated. Also winter riding would be nice. Thank you
Love the trails. - Love your trails. Camping would make the time there longer as an overnight camping would allow two days to enjoy the area.
1/8/2010 Hartman Creek State Park by Northeast WI Trail Rider
Great Park & Horse Trails! - Your horse trails are great! Would love to have more trails available and water available for horses.
Nice Local Ride - I live about a half hour away and High Cliff has always been a great day ride place to go to. The trails are sound and not very challenging for young horses since you can ride all the trails within 3 hours. My suggestion would be to add more horse trails for those who like to ride for more than 4 hours and maybe add a few horse campsites for those who live further away in order for them to enjoy High Cliff too.
1/8/2010 Hartman Creek State Park by Kim Winkel
More horse trails? - Hartman creek is a beautiful park and a great place to ride our horses. Would love to see water closer for the horses though.
Horse Trails and Camping - Would be great if this park would add overnight camping for people with horses as well as more trails - possibly connecting to another park or just looping the trails as there are many horse people that ride and camp April-October. It would increase the number of people that would come to your park as a lot of other state parks are constantly booked full by people camping with horses.
Great Park - Would love to see horse trails though; and an area for over nite camping with the horese. SLH
1/7/2010 Hartman Creek State Park by Laura Steidl
Horse trails - I love riding my horse here. This park has beautiful horse trails winding through woods and around large fields. A great place to enjoy nature on horseback. The enlarged parking lot is nice. More horse trails and a source of water for the horses would be a huge improvement.
1/7/2010 High Cliff State Park by Laura Steidl
Horses Welcome, Good trails. - Beautiful horse trails go through woods and around open fields. They are great. This park could improve by providing overnight camping for people with horses. That service, plus more horse trails, would be a big draw for people from outside the area to use this beautiful park.
Very nice park conveniently located - Would really like to see more horse trails established and horse camping available. Currently is a nice day trail though.
Love the trails - Wished there were more trails for horse backriding, and being able to ride from high cliff to calumet co. park... and with that be said overnight camping with horses would be nice.
Great spot for walking - Trout stream, artesian spring, cedar marsh. All year enjoyment in a peaceful area.
a great place to see cranes and swans - Crex is one of my favorite birdwatching destinations. The wind is your constant companion, interrupted only by the bugle calls of the cranes as they come in to land. The drives and overlooks are well-planned, shetered picnic sites available, and there is a great small shop in the interpretive center. Also, Crex is not far from the International Crane Center!

8/5/2009 Flambeau River State Forest by JosieBear
Flambeau the beautiful - Our family and friends take a weekend canoe trip down the south fork of the Flambeau every year. I have traveled far and wide in this country but this river is just amazing. Always so clean and it never seizes to amaze me. Every year she changes but still remains the same. I cherish her. I am from NW WI and this is our secret treasure.
pretty lake - lkthe lake is nice. There are no gabage cans though.
Just a great experience - We have stayed several times. The sites are secluded and clean, the bathrooms modern, the staff friendly, and the lake and beach is soothingly peaceful: Oh what a break from city life
5/26/2009 Willow River State Park by Alex Wollangk
Beautiful Park - My family visited over Memorial Day weekend. This is a stunning park. Make sure to bring a camera.
campsites - can anyone tell me about the campsites, I have never been there. are there any sites wooded? Can you park on the site, is there some space between sites for privacy? are any located near trail heads? which sites are the nicest wooded ones. we like to run line for tarp over table and hang the hammock.

Bike the Pike - Very nice trails and the scenery is priceless...
Amazing! - Makes you feel cut off from the rest of the modern world. Camping at its purest.
Great place - Wonderful campground, beautiful area, awesome!
4/16/2009 Flambeau River State Forest by Dixie Harz Manzanares
My birth place - I was born and raised on the Flambeau. My parents owned the Dix-Dox Resort. I wish that my children could have had the wonderful opportunity that I had growing up on the most beautiful river in the U. S. The Flambeau was the central part of our lives; our communication with neighbors, our recreation and our calendar of the arrival of spring (crashing of ice on the bridge breakers) and the coming of fall.

Need more informtion - Need some more detail information about the place..Like the Ecological system overview, bio diversity that can be seen in the place..those kind of stuffs..
3/2/2009 Peninsula State Park by The Lefebvre Family
Our favorite in Wisconsin - We loved visiting here at different times of year until we moved to PA. Summer with trails, biking, and cross country skiing in winter. Beautiful town of Fish Creek, and other towns to visit nearby, with galleries, restaurants, snack areas, etc. People were extremely friendly, honest, and trusting. Our rented equipment for skiing was returned to the yard of the store-since the business was not open when we were done skiing. Another shopowner had me take a sweater for my husband to try on since he was not with me, and I had not paid for it yet! She said to come back and pay if I wanted it, or to return it, and of course I bought it. My parents honeymooned there long ago, and later met my husband and I there for a wonderful vacation at a motel next to the park. Enjoyed it all!
2/20/2009 Pattison State Park by camping family

Nice XC Ski Place - Nice skate and classic trails, none very difficult. We almost always find it well groomed. There is a nice warming cabin.
Cross Country Skiing - Very nice system of cross country ski trails, classic and skate. Grooming is done regularly and skillfully.
12/14/2008 Old Wade House State Park by mary@wade
No longer a state park - Wade House Historic Site is no longer a state park. It is owned and operated by the Wisconsin Historical Museum in Madison. It is open mid-May through mid-October, 10-5, with special events and programs throughout the year. www.wadehouse.org for more information.
12/8/2008 Peninsula State Park by The Bubolz Family
Our Favorite Park - What a great place! We come every summer for two weeks. We have nine children so this is quite a trip. The great thing about Peninsula is that is has something for everyone. It has a decent beach, good family parks, wonderful biking/hiking trails, golf, and good sites. We love it and have already started talking about the trip in July (its December 8th!). I would highly recommend this park to any family. Make sure to get a reservation.

A Favorite! - Gentle hiking, fun dog beach, great lake for calm kayaking. Not a thrill seeker park but great for families with smaller children who want to stay involved in outdoor pursuits. No cliffs to worry about! They have a great circle hiking trail around a meadow. The path is fine gravel - easy to push a stroller.
11/25/2008 Newport State Park by Craig & Donna Leitner
One of our favorite parks - A fall hike in Newport makes you feel as though you are the only people in the park. Any time of the year is a lovely experiance. We recommend one of the guided hikes with the Naturalist.
best muskie fishing around - WOW!!! I fish this river for a week every year and catch many smallies and at least 2 or 3 muskies during the week. I have even caught 3 sturgeon while fishing with worms for bass!!! The grouse hunting this year is amazing. I saw about 25 birds in 1 day and got my limit.
Great hiking trails -

The Best Park - I go to Wyalusing state park every year with my neighborhood! We stay in a large cabin on the camp site and we hike on the Sugar Maple Trail! The area is so beautiful in the fall.
- this site is all screwed up it is mixed between Wisconsin and kentucky better do your research elsewhere.

Glowing Mounds - These mounds glow with the green moss covering them, especially after it rains. It is a very peaceful place.
8/8/2008 Governor Dodge State Park by Mary Lehman
Perfect For All Ages - We just spent 5 days in Governor Dodge. What a great trip! Not a single person was bored. My husband and the 15-year-old loved going fishing, while my 7-year-old loved going on nature walks on the trails with me, and the dog loved the designated beaches so he could swim. The bathrooms and showers were suprisingly clean. I will recommend Governor Dodge to anyone looking for a great place to camp! Thanks for the great vacation!

Mauthe Lake: A Great Family Campground! - Mauthe Lake is our go to campground each summer. It has a nice playground, a nice swimming beach, and very nice sites, especially in the upper 500s (wooded sites!) This is a state park campground, so it is not too crazy like some of the privately owned campgrounds seem to be. Mauthe Lake would always be my first choice!! Beware, the water of Mauthe Lake is brownish tinged (due to iron??) but it does not stain, so do not be alarmed! On hot, 90+ days, the beach will be full, just an FYI! Finally new shower facility was built in the middle 2000s, and it has a family shower, which works great if you have a small children. The other showers are all individual, which is also nice. This year we tried to go to Mauthe as walk-up campers, but were turned away because all the sites were taken. We then proceeded to Long Lake Recreational Area, and camped there. This was a nice campground as well. The access to the Lake is not as easy, and I am not even sure if there is a beach for swimming or not. There is no playground equipment at Long Lake at this time. Mauthe lake is about 12 minutes away, so we took one day to go up there to let the kids run around and play! As far as critters go, one year at Mauthe Lake the raccoons took our soap during the night. At Long Lake this past summer of 2008, the raccoon actually came into the site as soon as it was dark. We always find tons of very interesting insects and arachnids as well. While Camping up North, I do not remember such interesting species. (i.e. one year we had a Luna Moth at our site!)

JUST A LOT OF FUN FOR THE FAMILY -
Awesome! - WoW! i can never forget going to the Sheboygan Marsh, it was so exciting when we first got there. They got canoeing at good price, and a great fishing area for my family and me!
A hidden gem - Among all of the State Parks, this is one of the most intimate. Only 59 sites and there are very few bad ones. The only thing I would change is the lack of group sites..we were right next to a large group, on three campsites and they were VERY noisy. Try to avoid the sites right next to the double sites.
7/20/2008 Buckhorn State Park by JRB
One of my favorites - It is a great park for hiking camping and on a great lake...castle rock is a great lake for recreational activities and fishing...the only negative comes with camping and that is the flys can get real thick.
amazing - i love the beach and the board walk ... but the park is the best!!!
beautiful - plenty of woods to go biking, beautiful bogs, wonderful wildlife. a perfect place to make memories.
6/29/2008 Flambeau River State Forest by Jake
Perfect - Been on the river many times, nothing compares.
You should see a bear - Beautiful
a hidden gem - A very short hike takes you to the bridge and an archeological site. The park description listed on this page is obviously incorrect but the park and bridge really do exist. The park is located on highway C just east of Leland.
Our Favorite Walking Park - Very nice Wisconsin park. Beautiful walking trails during all seasons. The small falls area is beautiful. We were engaged there.
6/8/2008 Governor Dodge State Park by Kelly Czaja
Love it! - We love this place! Great sites, both gorgeous lakes have dog beaches, rent a boat, go for a horseback ride. Quiet and serene but close enough to town and the Dells if the weather takes a turn. Our favorite park!
6/1/2008 Point Beach State Forest by mermaid
One of our favorite parks - A beautiful beach all to your self. A long boardwalk from your cabin all the way to the beach and your very own fire pit. It was fantastic!
